Strength:

The best sounding ar cd player I have ever heard. There is no other cd player that can touch the sound quality of this unit. It sounds better then many home unit that I have heard!! Sony has great customer service! They are replacing mine that is 1.5 years off of warranty(at a pro rated price of course)

Weakness:

It has been in the repair shop 4 times in the 2.5 years i have had it, but i sent a e-mail to Sony Canada and they are going to replace with cdx c90, so I cant complain. great It sounds like I got the leamon of the bunch

I paid $999.00 Canadain. I would have paid more you can't get better sound quality then this, or better customer service!!

Strength:

Everything, I've owned it since it first came out, this deck is a masterpiece of quality. The 4 Bur-Brown DA converters make the sound quality better than some home players including Denons 20bit DAC model, over 105db. Being only a pre amp head unit and a full copper chasis, there is almost no measureable distortion. When you add a quality amplifer and speakers you wont belive your ears. Currently I'm using ADS amps and there great. What ever your concern is this deck performs flawlessly

Weakness:

The 4volt pre amp output is adaquate, I wish it was higher and had a additional set of (non fading) pre outs. The display can be hadr to read in the light but the choice of 2 angles helps. I do recomend a changer to help eliminate some of the wear and tear on the motorized face.

Paid dealer cost (can't say price sorry). Even for the list price of this deck every penny spent is well worth it and you will find yourself saying you would have spent more. I have been debating about changing my deck (I usualy change every 6-8 months, for the last 5 years before the 910ES) but I have been so elated by the decks performance I haven't changed my deck for years. Many of my friends have purchased the 910ES and they have had no problems or complaints

I wouldn't recomend this deck to someone who wants to put together a inexpensive system - due to having to add extenal amplifiers. If you can afford the components GO FOR IT, YOU WONT BE DISSAPOINTED

Sone ES 600DSP - great deck but low pre outs and no ESP, I added the DSP prcessor to my 910 - once you have DSP you can't live without it

Strength:

Crystal clear sound, Adjustable face angle, Display features many options, Can control MD, CD changer, DSP, and TV, 4 D/A converters, Optional Digital Output, Need I say more?

Weakness:

Like all Sony models near this model's production years, the display can be a little hard to see in the sun at times.. However, can be corrected with the adjustable faceplate angle setting (Sony thought of it all with this model).

When I first began getting into car stereo a couple of years ago, this was the player in which salesmen and owners alike grinned to me and said was worth every cent. For three straight years I waited until it went down to a price where a college student like myself could afford. I bought the non mobile ES CDX-480 which was ok, but I knew where the best sound really was at. I *finally* found a near perfect model on ebay for $280. The only thing I can say is that it was worth the wait. So many features and the crown jewel of the player-- the 4 D/A converters will make anyone who owns it come up with reasons to drive around so you can enjoy it (I know I have). The only model I would settle for might be the newer C90. I say might because this bad boy is coming with me no matter what new car I'm in. Well worth the money if you can find one.

I have had nothing but complete satifaction with this unit. I bought my 910 refurbished from a sony outlet for $350, and let me tell you- it was the best $350 I've ever spent! The sound output is clean, the unit has been reliable, and the adjustable angle feature is cool as....you get the picture. The only thing that I would down-rate it on is the display washout in bright sunlight. Other than that, nothing but good....

I have owned the CDX-C910 for nearly two years, never had a single problem with it. This deck has performed flawlessy as a CD head unit and as a Changer controller. The 910 has the best CD section of any head unit I have heard except for the C90. When plugged in to an outboard D/A converter such as Zapco or A/D/S it is untouchable, even by the mighty C90... I would love to own a C90 but since my 910 is working well I can not justify the $800 it would take for me to get the C90...

I got the CDX-910 after getting my other car stereo stolen. I feel I should thank the people who broke into my car. You see I never would have gotten this deck without their help. Let me tell you, nothing but crystal clear!! I don't even have a dsp,pre-amp hooked up to it. All I have is the deck hooked up to an Alpine V12 series amplifier and then to some 5X7 infinity's. Although since out of production, replaced by the CDX-90, you can still find some either new or refurbished. The only bad thing I see about this deck is the detachable fold down face. Although very cool looking, It might be a good idea to get yourself a CD Changer so it won't be over worked.

Model Reviewed: Sony CDX-C910

Strength:

separate power supply (nice audiophile touch), copper shielding, optical digital output, full DSP control.

Weakness:

Motorized faceplate is somewhat fragile, requiring care to keep things intact.

Bought this deck used so that I could have something that would fully control my XDP-210EQ digital preamp/crossover/eq.

Wow.

This deck has a digital toslink output that gives me direct digital transfer to the 210--meaning that I have 21 bands of digital EQ, selectable crossover points for fronts, rears and sub, adjustable sub levels, and user-selectable DSP soundfields--all from the driver's seat with my remote, all in the digital realm. Toslink from both the head and the changer means that the only place I have analog cables is between the preamp and the amps--a run of less than a foot--as well as speaker cables. What this does for sound quality is hard to estimate, because of all the many factors affecting an autosound installation. Let's just say it's about as good a signal as I could buy to go to the amps (cheap Rockford for sub, nice H/K four-channel).

This deck is dead silent and will not skip. It has dynamic range that is nearly a miracle. The level of control it gives me over my sound is unprecedented, and can only be bettered by using the $2000 XDP-4000 which can be tweaked with calibrated mics and a computer. Ergonomically, the rotary dial is a joy to use, so much quicker and easier than previous Sonys and others I've owned.

Finally, the biggest deal to me about this deck's sound--It's personal since each of you has his own car with its quirks. My Maxima has an alternator whine that has been all but impossible to banish from the sound of my components. The separate power supply that comes with this unit is worth its weight in gold for the improvement it makes. This, together with the CDX-C90's copper shielding (shared by the preamp), banishes spurious automobile electrical noise. I am thrilled.

Similar Products Used:

Sony CDX-M650. I liked the "active black panel," but it didn't control all the eq and crossover settings of the 210. What a surprise that in addition to the added control features, I got sound quality that was orders of magnitude better.

Strength:

Absolutely Excellent!!!! Zero noise. Never, ever skipped. Digital Optical ouputs.

Weakness:

Why a coax to optical adapter? It is fragile and could only have been included in order to force the purchase of a separate, expensive XA-D210 adapter.

I got this unit used to replace the cassette deck in my competition car. I use it in conjunction with the XDP-210EQ processor which I wanted for the Time-Alignment features. I think my most favorable sound quality impressions are due to the pin-point imaging the DSP provides. It is excellent to have the entire system controlled through the head unit as opposed to all the knob twisting I had to do with my prior set up. Anyway, the C910 is dead quiet. I mean perfectly quiet, as evidenced by the perfect 15 scores it gets even with the engine running. I had an intermittent whine with the previous unit and with the combination of the remote DC-DC converter and the Fiber-Optic connections, I have absolutely dead silent operation. That was the second big reason that I wanted this unit. I was disappointed to find out the at the unit does not display CD-Text information, which I was mis-informed that it did, but oh well, not too many discs have CD-Text any way. I could not recommend this unit more since I could not find another new Sony that I wanted any more and I really don't like head units from too many other manufacturers, from a style and features standpoint. I absolutely hate the "Las-Vegas-flashy- lights-moving-pictures" crap that everybody is selling nowadays. I understand why people think it is cool but I detest every head unit that fits that description. So, I had to get a 4 year old head unit to avoid the hype. I have hit potholes and bumps so large I thought I had damaged my wheels and neither the C910 or my changer have ever skipped. Probably because both have "memory" skip protection. I saw where some guy said the C910 did not play CD-R's well but I would have to dis-agree, since mine has played over 50 of mine with no problems at all. My old changer would not play them so that is like reason 3 that I bought this unit. Note however, that the C910 does not play CD-RW's. The button layout and controls are great but the display is useless unless it is dark. Any mild sunlight totally washes it out, but besides the minor annoyance who cares?
