Strength:

electronic anti skip, Install flexibility

Weakness:

The display sucks

I don’t know why people are complaining about sound quality. They may want to check their install. A lot of people blame their own bad installation workmanship on the products they are installing. I admit to some very faint hum that can only be noticed when the engine is off, that is probably from the amps. People forget the best feature, the electronic anti skip. I use it in a pick up that rides kind of rough and it’s a big help with that. The FM reception is not bad, but not good either. The display dose suck in sun light, useless. The cute display items are a waste.

Strength:

Excellent clarity.

Weakness:

Stupid graphics and display is hard to see during the day.

This is an excellent deck! It has screaming treble and excellent clarity. Customization takes a while, but it easily adapts to any system for optimal sound quality.

Strength:

CD+Text!!!!! 4x45 preouts. Unbelievable sound quality. Voice Guide. GODZILLA-SAN!!! (or whatever that thing is in the LCD display)

Weakness:

Can only use the rear RCA audio in jacks if a Sony proprietary controller (like MD/CD changer) is attached. A Japanese deck with only French and English as the Voice Guide languages? No search function on remote. Can only read CD+Text CDR discs burned at 2x max & regular CDR discs at 4x max.

POPS:
This was the best bang for the buck when I picked it up 3 years ago. Even today, it rivals the quality most of the decks selling in the $400 range. Some people say that Sony products are crap when it comes to radio reception, but I have found that this deck performs rather nicely in that regard. I am able to receive - in perfect clarity - broadcasts originating from over 150 miles away. Although I never really listen to the radio, when I do, i almost never get any interference in the station broadcasts.
HEAT:
The only drawback that I genuinely despise is that the laser can't read any CD+Text cdr discs burned over 2x or any normal cdr disc burned over 4x. I absolutely hate waiting 30+mins for my cds to be burned...especially when I can make a cd in under 5 mins at 12x speed. Oh well, I guess it's the best I can expect from a 3 year old deck. I also wish $ony wasn't such a bastard with the proprietary crap... I have a fully loaded Nomad Jukebox just waiting to be used in my car... but the deck wont see an external input unless the Sony AUX input adaptor is connected... But I suppose it's a small price to pay for the superb quality this little baby kicks out.

Strength:

CD Sound Quality is excellent
Internal AMP is also very good.

Weakness:

AM Reception is non -existant
FM Reception is extremely poor fades in and out all the time
Doesn't play CD-R or RW's very well.
Frankly any CD that is LESS then perfect doesn't play every well.

I love Sony products. So when i bought my new Jetta I figured I'd treat it to the newest Sony Head unit. I should have kept my old one. This head unit is the Worst Sony Product I've every had. The radio reception is absolutely horrid, and the cd tracking is terrible with most discs.

The only reason I keep it is because I have a Sony CDX-91 10 disc changer in the trunk which is awesome. The display is good, but I do without all the cute stuff Sony is adding on. Who needs a rotating display to tell you the cd is playing. Duh, look at the counter!!! And of course the voices on the unit were turned off immediately, It's said to think that I actually paid for that.

The only good thing is, it controls the CD Changer well (how hard can that be) and the internal amp is quite powerful.

Strength:

power, LOTS of features to cuztomize your system, ability to control up to 6(!) CD changers, cool looks, large easy-to-read display, wired and wireless remote control, 3 sets of preamp outputs

Weakness:

no high pass crossovers built in like Kenwood's system E

paid $325 from crutchfield. I feel I got double my money's worth. the internal amp had plenty of power (until I upgraded to a 68W x 4 MTX amp...)
there is a selectable low pass crossover on the subwoofer output that can run inline with your amp's crossover to get you another 12 dB/octave of rolloff. the sound was always very clean(at least for an internal amp). the animations and voice functions (english AND french!) while basically bells and whistles, are nevertheless pretty cool. but by far, my favorite part about this head is the wired remote that I mounted on my steering column below the turn signal. unless you use one, you have no idea how much less distraced you are when you are fiddling with your settings while driving. for safety's sake, I think everyone should use one, plus people think it's cool.

Strength:

Large Display, lots of power, wired remte and a wireless remote!!

Weakness:

No EQ

Paid about $500 in canadian money so it's about $1.12 american. Love the stereo, i've got a mid-level set of sony 6x9's and factory up front. It sounds pretty good. If you've got a woofer hooked up to it you can manually adjust the volume from the face plate. A big bonus you can hook up to 10, ten disc changers to it!! Of the radio stations we get - about five - they all come in pretty good. Nice stereo all around.

Strength:

good looking disiplay, good power,

Weakness:

radio tuner sounds horrible-worst I have ever heard, the naming a cd function doesn't work unless you have a cd changer-very annoying considering this is a 400$ cd player, no remote!, not even a mute button

I was able to scavenge this player for 260$ and I owned it for appoximately two years, I would not recommend it unless you will NEVER listen to the radio

Strength:

It will play music

Weakness:

Sound quality, worthless features.

This is the worst piece of stereo equipment I have ever owned! I am a stereo nut and have owned many, many different items. I received a good deal on this and decided to give it a try. The receiver and CD section are horrible. Save you mony and do not buy this. I am not paid to say this, I have no personal stake in this. I could go on for many days about everything that I do not like but you get the idea..

This product was a replacement for the Sony 5850,and as far as I am concered it's Like night and day..This unit boasts 19 watts rms and sounds very good without an amp running aftermarket speakers. The tuner section is rated at 8 dbf which is the strongest I have seen..The cd section is outstanding, sound is crisp, and clear. Some of the features of this unit include, three sets of amp preouts including one for a sub,two remotes, wired and wireless.A vast array of menus, voice command, display in easily visible in bright sunlight unlike the 5850.Pros:nice bright display/cd section very good at 100db/tuner excellent at 8 dbf/
sound is very good to excellent/4 meg buffer for anti skip

Cons:many many options and menus can be a little confusing/fold down face to
access cd is kind of a hassle/motion display is useless, wish they would
stop using those and put the money elswhere/

Strength:

The sound on the cd unit is incredible. This unit makes adjustment of sound quality very easy.

Weakness:

The display can be very hard to read in bright sunlight.

I am starting to wonder if the people who reviewed this product actually do have it. I don't know what they are talking about when it comes to the poor sound quality. This head unit rocks with the best of them. I have it hooked up to a Sony 7547 ES series amp that drives front Boston Acoustics Rallye RC51 and rear BA Rallye RX 97. It also drives my subs that are hooked up to a Kenwood KAC-X301T that drives two JL Audio 10W3. Rock On with Sony ES!!
