Strength:

NICE THICK FACE AND CASE , HARD TO MISPLACE OR LOOSE , NICE NON SCRATCH SURFACE . ONE MOTION DROP DOWN FACE ACTION WITH THE TYPICAL SINGLE 1 STEP ANGEL . SOUND CLEARDE UP TO MY EXPECTIATIONS AFTER 15 MINS OD ADJUSTING AND TWEAKING THE FUNCTIONS. DUAL ILLUMINATION WAS A HELP AS WAS THE CONTRAST FEATURE . FAST PALYBACK NICE FFW FEATURE FOR THE CD'S . THIS DECK IS PACKED WITH ALL THE BEST FEATURES I HAVE TESTED/USED IN OTHER EXPENSIVE DECKS . AN OUTBOARD PROCESSOR WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE INSTEAD OF EVERYTHING PUT IN THE SET IT SELF. YA GOTTA LOOSE SOMETHING CRAMMING ALL THOSE FEATURES ON THE BOARD! OTHER WISE THE SET PLAYS UP TO ITS REPUTATION BUT YOU MUST FIND ANBD USE THE FOBER OPTICAL DOGITAL CABEL FOR IT WHEN USIG A DVD PLAYER OR CHANGER . IT MAKES A WORLD OF DIFFEENCE . WHEN USED WITH THE DVS9755Z TRUNK MUONTED DVD PLAYER THEY MADE SPECIFICALLY FOR THIS DECK THINGS GET INTERESTING. EXCELLANT SOUND AND IMAGING, MANY FEATURES .

Weakness:

THEY COULD HAVE USED MORE PIXELS IN THE DISPLAY ITS POOR ON THE GRAPHICS.THE BACK LIT SCREEN IS NEVER TOTALLY BLACK LIKE THE BOX SHOWS . GREEN AND PINK BLEEDS THROUGH THE OUTER MOST BORDER EDGES OF THE DISPLAY NO MATTER WHAT SCREEN SAVER YOU SCROLL TO AND THE BLUES AND YELLOWS IN THE VARIOUS SCREEN DISPLAYS ARE CHALKY AND LIGHT . THE UFO SCREEN ( MY FAVORITE) WAS THE WORST..... NO CLARITY EITHER THE DISPLAY IT SELF IS BAD OR THATS JUST THE WAY TS MADE . FROM SEEING OTHERS LISTED ON THE BAY ONLY ONE LOOKED CLEARER IN THE BLUE SCREEN MODE. TIME TO LOOK FOR A REFURB OR NOS DECK AT CANAL IN MANHATTAN TO SATISFY MY CURIOUSATY AS I WENT ALONG I WAS SURPRISED TO FIND THE DSPS VARIOUS NAMES SEDAN 1? MINIVAN 1? WHATS THAT? ( I KNOW ) BUT THE NAMES ARE RIDIUCLOUS AT MINIVAN AGE ONE DOSENT OWN THIS DECK! AND IF THEY DO IT WOULDENT BE IN A MINIVAN IT WOULD BE IN A OLDS CUTLASS OR GRAND SPORT BUICK REGAL OR A 77 ELDORADO. ,GUESS THEY DIDNT WANT TO GET TOO SPECIFIC AND SHOULD HAVE LET THE USER AT LEAST CHANGE THE NAMES OF THE DPS'S FACTORY PRESETS ( AT LEAST FOR THE CHICK IN THE CARS SAKE) .THE DIGITAL FIBER OPTICAL CABEL WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBEL TO FIND (WWW.PACPARTS.COM) AND WAS 100.00. THE MOUNTING CAGE PROVED TO BE A HARD FIND AS WELL AS THE WIRING HARNESS ( I NEED MINE NEW !) MOST PARTS FOR THESE ARE DISCONTINUED.... SO MUCH FOR THE LOVE OF OLD SCHOOL CAR STEREO . TO PUT THIS TOGETHER THE RIGHT WAY WITH THE CLARION TV TUNER, DVD PLAYER AND ALL WIRING AND CABELS IS A REAL TASK BUT IN THE END YOU WILL HAVE SOME NICE SETUP.

DECK ARRIVED IN GOOD SHAPE . POWERED UP AND CAME TO LIFE SO I DECIDED TO PUT IT TO THE TEST ON THE BENCH FIRST . USING SERIES V11 HIFONICS AMPS AND POLK SPEAKERS . THE INITIAL SOUND PLAIN BUT FULL.

Strength:

4Volt outputs. 3 sets of RCA outs. Remote control. Features galore. Peripheral control capabilities.

Weakness:

No antenna turn-on control. No knob for volume control.

Clarion used to be a garden variety name! I bought this unit (refurbished) as it claimed to be "ProAudio" unit and I wanted to erase my negative feelings about Clarion name-brand! What design engineer in his/her right mind would provide a slew of features on a head-end unit and forget to provide an antenna control lead when the radio is turned on? This amazes me! I am sticking with my previous feelings about this brand!
