Strength:

Quciker than previous versions with new V4.1 sw. Clear easy to follow voice prompts get you there without looking at the display.

Weakness:

Wish there was more room to do a "build-it-in" but that's a car problem not an Alpine. Sometimes a little slow to calculate a route initially.

Had the earlier version for about two years. Sold my previouse car (1994 E320 coupe) with the GPS installed, so put in this latest version. Alpine also has a new DVD version but it's too expensive ($2500). It is very fast to calculate a route!

No problems with the installation, in fact the Vss (speed sense wire) was right where it was supposed to be (at the radio connector, pin 1). The main cpu unit mounts in the trunk and this unit houses the CDROM maps. Units that do NOT have a speed sensor tied to the car, are very slow to react and calculate.

The display (TME-006SA, 5.6" hi res screen) mounted just right of the instrument console and fits nicely in the space. Almost looks like it belongs there!! The remote control completely operates the unit. The POI icons are great and they're programmable.

The unit is very accurate especially since the GPS distance 'blurring' signal has been removed. The female voice prompts are all that is need to navigate, so that's important while driving. The volume from the display panel (has built-in speaker) is a little low for me, so an additional audio unit (KAX-551N) was used. It's a small powered amplifier/speaker which gives additional audio power so the 'lady' can be heard in noisy driving situations.

This unit is great for anyone who wants precise, reliable GPS directions to almost anywhere in the US. The previous unit had no problems or failures in the two plus years of operation, a very important feature.

Alpine also has a new single 'USA' CDROM for stateside navigation. It does not have a the detail of the individual CDROMs but will get you from coast to coast very efficiently.

All in all, it a very nice addition to your motoring pleasure.
