Strength:

Tech-Mode; Range; Price

Weakness:

No Voice; Vg-2 Alert would be nice; Need more dimming at night

This new line-up from Beltronics is promising. The 900 series has improved range over the last models 845STi and 855STi. This new class comes with the upgradable software when new police radar emerges. The screen is very bright and readable. It comes with a caring pack, visor mount, cigarette plug, window mount, and a little more.

There is what is call Tech-Mode. This mode allows you to view what frequency, not only X,K,KA, the true numbered frequency the radar is producing or reflected. Like X band 10.502;K band 24.251; Ka 35.858. etc..

This unit has a 3 year warranty on parts and labor. The unit is solid, and has weight to it unlike the 855STi.

You are able to select the frequency you do not need. Like here in Virginia I get unwanted X band alerts. X band is not used here, so X band is turned off.

The range that I have achieve (980 #'s previously owned):
X band- 1.15 miles
K band- 1.35 miles
Ka band- 1.25 miles
Laser- if truly detected 97% of the time means TICKET

Strength:

GREAT RANGE. Most everything else for me is secondary. The purpose of a detector should be the detection of police radar and this radar has amazing sensitivity, and does not give false positives often especially if you know how to program it for city driving. Also, two previous comments read before were disclaimed at least from my experience. See bellow

Weakness:

One of the complaints was that the windshield holder touched the windshield directly from metal to glass. However, bel provided two very tiny rubber attachments that I believe can be easily lost if you open the bag hectically. Another fellow complained that it was difficult to aligned the angle to the slope of the windshield. I did run into this problen only to find out I had the items in reverse order.

I read aggressively for hours at different sites from magazine reviews to customers feedback (including this site). I saw the bottom line as a competition between passport 8500, valentine, and bel (either 980, 970, or 950). I read that the straight line distance range for bel and passport 8500 being beyond 5 miles from a magazine report. Another report purported that they repeated a bel test because they thought it could had been an error (that the bel performed beyond the 5 miles range) only to be duplicated and confirmed again. But feedback from people like us reported ranges of around 1.2 miles. Well that's now changed. I took my new bel LR over a 22 mile bridge notorious for police and it detected the police at 5.8 mile distance. On my way back it detected it over 5 miles away this time around 5.25 miles away (both in ka band) It was literally umbelivable but true.
