Strength:

cordless

Weakness:

false laser alarms, fragile, expensive, poor headphone plug.

mini earplug is mono, customer service says it will break if you plug in a stereo plug. And false laser detection ALL THE TIME!
Customer service is rude. The kid says to me "do you want the address or not" very rude, still haven't heard from the regional manager about my complaint. Beware!

Worst radar detector I have ever used. Did not work properly, thus leaving me with a ticket. When I called customer service about the problem, they basically said oh well. Never did get a return phone call from the one and only manager they stated they had. Don't waste your money. Does not work. And I was on open highway. The Escort company is the worst and I will never purchase from them again.

Escort has always been the leader in radar detection. I have not used one prior to this purchase since the Passport model nearly 10 years ago. I have spent 8800 miles in 2 months on the road and have been very impressed with the unit performance

Strength:

Outstanding detection, Nice ergonomics, Attractive.

Weakness:

Audio needs to be louder, Display is too dim and not very readable, to me at least. A metal case would be nice. These weaknesses cost a couple of stars

The Solo performs exactly as advertised. It is the best cordless ther is and it's not too far off from the 8500 in range.

Strength:

Good radar detection

Weakness:

A VG2 will find you eventually and dont lose your time complaining to Escort simply because they wont assume any responsability at all and will simply not answer your mail once you try to push a little harder.

Hi... I was tired to get tickets so I thought that I should give a radar detector a chance. After reading many positive reviews, I decided to purchase the SOLO S2. I have to say that as far as radar detection goes, it's quite effective. The problem that I had with mine was the VG2. It just didn't work at all! When you do buy this unit, it's automatically on off so you have to switch it on which I did. About two weeks after, the unit detected a VG2 radar detector detector and went on standy for a few seconds. The problem here is that the cop caught it right away with a VG2 and after they confiscated my unit they gave me a nice fine. When I called the company the very next day, they just basically told me that it was impossible and had to be my fault. I even offered to fax them a copy of the ticket which explains how I was detected and with what type of detector. As far as I'm concerned, this is the worst company I have ever dealth with so far and I certainly would not recommend them for any reason in this world. These guys just dont care about you once you purchased something from them. I was quite disappointed and even told them that I was going to take them to small claims court which they just didn't care at all. Two thumbs down all the way!

Every think about the Solo S2.

I have has numerous radar detectors over the years, and have given up on them. In July I finally purchased the Escort after looking at numerous systems some many times more. I settled as I allowed my daughter to make the final choice, and she like the cordless. Does it work?? Yes. I will relate this short story to you. It was eleven o'clock at night and I am on a divided four lane with corvette, a Trooper had just passed me going the other direction and I figured that given the time and place I could open it up. I was doing over 95 mph when my Solo light up!!! I immediately hit the breaks and dropped down in gears to apr 55 mph in a very short distance. (remember this is all at night with no other vehicles around me) The other trooper turned on his headlights illuminating his position. The detector continued to warn me of the active radar. I was preparing to pull over and accept my "fate" but the trooper never did turn around he just looked puzzled and drove past! I was sold on my S2. Since then my Solo has continued to save me. I routinly travel over a thousand miles a day, and the two AA bateries will last for two weeks before needing replaced.

Strength:

Excellent ergonomics, super range, tells you what band immediately, great features to play with. Discreet.Quality feel to the buttons and controls.

Weakness:

Needs metal housing like the original Solo and passports in the 80's, the plastic looks cheap. Get the optional cord as this thing uses up batteries fast or purchase the batteries "bulk".

I have a new V1 1.8 and a Solo S-2 and use them alternately. I live in Virginia where these things are a no-no so I use the Solo when discreetness is needed and the V1 at other times or when I travel to other states. I carry them both and when I come across a situation that I can compare the two products, I'll always take the time to do so. The Solo is an EXCELLENT product and has much better range than you'd think it would have. It's not as sensitive as the V1 on X band, not many falsies in town but since X is used rarely here in VA, I really don't care. K is excellent with this unit, just seconds behind the V1, sometimes only a moment or two, but never without giving plenty of warning. On KA the V1 is better by maybe 10-15 % but I haven't had enough "good" opportunities to compare as much as on K band. With the Solo, you VA drivers can (with its small size) really be protected and discreet at the same time. I'm starting to prefer it to the Valentine because of its convenience, cool features, and range. I was really surprised that it's not that much worse than than the V1 or 8500 in finding radar. (I had the 8500 but sent it back, I already had one plug-in model) I kept looking for a reason to send it back to Escort within the 30 days but it kept impressing me. Great product for anyone but the real speed demons.

long range , many options, easy to read, understand and use.

Weakness:

plastic instead of metal housing

Great detection over a long range, comes ready to use. Easy to operate and understand. Wireless is a plus. Looks good, small size. Was difficult to find in retail outlets though. Well worth the price, highly recommended. Appears to be less bulky than Valentine and more attractive.
