Alpine 5.25 Component System REF505CS Speakers

Alpine 5.25 Component System REF505CS Speakers

DESCRIPTION

Plus One Woofer Cones - Each speaker size uses a cone about 30% larger than competing models of the same size. This is accomplished using our new basket design and hi-roll surround. The benefits of Plus One are greater bass output and a two-to-three dB increase in efficiency versus competing brands. That's right, two to three dB!

Hi-Roll Rubber Surrounds - The motor structure in Reference is longer than in competing models. This longer motor structure uses a taller surround. The result is longer X-max and more bass output.

Silk-Dome Tweeter - This is not a commonly used w-dome, but a true edge driven dome like those found in high end home audio loudspeakers. Our silk-dome material ensures smooth response, free from harshness and fatigue to 20kHz, even at high output levels.

I-Mount Tweeter Mounting System - This patented mounting system facilitates effortless flush, angled, or surface mounting of the component system tweeters.

Strength:

Good sounding tweeters, loud!

Weakness:

Don't last very long at all, can't push much power to them

Good sounding speakers when they have worked. I have had these for over a year and only push 80 watts to them with a ppi amp and i have gone through 4 sets. Not happy with how long they last, i wouldn't pay the money for them unless you get these cheap!

Strength:

If you can match to an amp that powers these speakers only (pending your head unit will let you) you will have a much better sound out of these drivers. Crisp highs, mid range is much better than the 5-inches.

Weakness:

DO NOT try to match the RMS on the speakers with an amp, you will be sorry, I was. A 25-watt amp to these speakers is plenty.

Man, dont go with the 5-inchers, if you can, go to the 6.5. They can handle the power better due to more air flow, thsu keeping the goods cooler, and prevent the pops that we all so know ans hate.

Strength:

high sensitivity rating 92dB. -3 dB crossover for tweeter. Looks great. PLays Loud without distortion.

Weakness:

none

These speakers are off the hook. The higher the volume the better they sound with my Sony amp. 40 watts is plenty of power for these speakers. The high frequency reproduction is fantastic playing anything from Rap to Mozart.
