Strength:

Inexpensive on clearance, Alpine Logo on grill, Decent highs.

Weakness:

Mediocre sensitivity despite ratings, Very poor Low Frequency Response. Bad product to sport Alpine logo

When I read other reviews that describe these speakers as "clear" and "bass response is excellent", I can not believe that we are reviewing the same product. I have been impressed with Alpine in the past, and thought that I was getting a great deal on these speakers. I did get a reasonable deal at $59 but I read reviews of those who paid full price for them at $100+ and can not believe that they are thrilled to own these sub-par speakers. My first complaint is the advertised Frequency Response of 30-28k. That's a good range... if it were close to true. I tried these out and they are lucky to be flat below 90 Hz. Their response starts attenuating drastically at about 80 Hz. I have an electronic crossover that allows me to adjust what range is getting sent to these things and was amazed at how poor the low end is. These have the base response of a good 4X6 dash speaker. The efficiency of 92dB is also questionable. I put them up against some pioneers that are rated at 89dB (And that's coming from Pioneer's spec writers of all people) and heard virtually no difference in SPL at the same power setting. What I ended up with were bargain basement speakers for a reasonable price with a pretty Alpine logo. I hate to see Alpine stoop to these lows but I have seen other companies sacrifice quality to widen their market share, but it’s sad to see Alpine do the same.

Strength:

Great looks Great frequency range Durable Long lasting Clear sounds

I have had the Alpine Type-S 6x9 for quit a while and have yet to have any toubles with them. The speakers have quite a large frequency range giving them blistering highs and tight bass. These speakers aren't made to pull out ultimate bass, but i am still impressed with its low end sound. Out of some of the speakers I have heard these speakers have some of the clearest sound out in the market and can take hard rock, rap, jazz, or whatever you like to listen. So if you like to listen to your music with claritity these are the speakers to do the job. And if you like more bass, buy yourself some subs.

SMOKIN CLARITY

Weakness:

Not very low bass

Really clear, clean sounding speakers. They don't put out very low bass. But are component speakers really supposed to? I have a 400 watt clarion amp powering them and they sound amazing. I love the highs these speakers put out.

Strength:

Clean sound, tight bass, clearest and sweetest 6x9 out there in this range. Not bright at all yet swwet enough.

Weakness:

Low power handling(this is because ususally low range speakers are used with a headunit and not a killer amp) Bass tonality is different from anything I have heard and difficult to mate with a sub. Lacks lower bass response making a sub woofer a desire!

One of the cleanest sounding 6x9 speakers I have heard. It lacks the low end bass response compared to the other brands but the bass it delivers, though not very low is tight, clean and precise. This speaker cannot handle too much power compared to a similar Kenwood or Pioneer. I would recommend it for its clean sound. One point. The speaker has a different tonality to the bass. Its like something I have never heard. I think this is something one shuld keep in mind when mating it to a sub woofer as there will be a difference in bass tonality, even if you setup a decent crossover.
