Strength:

Everything

Weakness:

None that I can think off

Excellent, clean sound powered by 100w rms coming from a JL Audio 500/5 amp. The sounding and imaging is stellar and it really makes listening to music in my car a pleasure. My car had a 300W 'premium' sound system but I was not satisfied with the sound. I changed everything, and the 6.5s do not disappoint. The imaging and dept is stellar and the overall clarity and soundstage is exquisite. Definitely recommended.

Model Reviewed: 2000 Boston Pro series 6.5 and 5.5 set

Strength:

Flat realistic response. Haven't heard them distort yet

Weakness:

Crossover speaker connections could clamp tighter and maybe a tweeter protection circuit would be good. Bright tweeter but nothing an eq and the tweeter atenuation can't fix.

Love the power. They work well when you use them as a 5.5 component set in kicks and the 6 pro drivers in the doors. I prefer this over the 6.53 set because I can drive a little more midbass out of the 5"vs the 4's making my soundstage cleaner.

Don't know. I have only used bostons so far. I have heard my friends mb quart q series 5's and they were actually pretty close considering the price difference.

Model Reviewed: Boston Pro 6.5s

Strength:

Excellent power handling, smooth and detailed mid-bass,pinpoint imaging.

Weakness:

Tweeters are bright-requiring proper set-up,but very impressive when done correctly.

I previously had 5.4 pros(had em for several years),so I'm accustomed to "the Boston sound". I had the 5.4s installed in my truck, while having a bunch of other stuff installed. After a couple years, one of the tweeters went out. I then found it was due to a crappy install...Do it yourself,or be VERY specific to the installer,if you want it done right! So I replaced them with the new 6.5 pros (installed them my self so I'd be happy...). HUGE difference! Yes,Bostons are bright, but you can attenuate the tweeters to suit the install. This can make a marked difference in spatial rendition, imaging, and presence.Take the time to set them up right,it's worth it. With the 6.5s,I was able to lower my sub cut-off freq. to match the increased midbass. They image great, handle more power than most mortals need (I'm feeding them 125w rms a channel-they barely break a sweat),and sound great with a wide variety of program material(pick a genre of music, and they'll make it sparkle). Diamond Audio's new M6 series are very close in performance, with slightly less tweeter output, but I can't vouch for their power handling vs. the Bostons.

Model Reviewed: Boston Pro 6.5 System

Strength:

3-Ohms, Versatile power handling, Better than JLs, Great speaker for the money.

Weakness:

Too bright depending on speaker placement and tweeter placement.

Overall an incredible set of speakers. Although a little bright at first, adjusting the tweeter level on the crossover box made a world of difference. I highly recommend these speakers, but if you have the money the 3-ways sound every bit of the $300 difference better.

Strength:

Very Clean and loud, the louder they are the cleaner they get with enough power.

Weakness:

a little bright at the high end. Depending on placement of tweeter in car may want to roll off the tweeter and put in a supper tweet.

This is the first set of Bostons I like after many years of listening to them. Very clean sound but a little bright as with all bostons. They are not as bright as models in the past. They will take a huge amount of power of components and keep sounding better. I would recommend using as much Dynamat as possible in the doors to increase mid bass. This made a HUGE difference in my car. Running them with an Xtant 603X.
