Model Reviewed: 2002. Focal Polykevlar 165 K2

Strength:

power handeling. unbelievable sound quality and depth, clarity. great looks. mid bass. tweets are so clear you all the music you are supposed to.

Weakness:

price. the size of the mid bass was huge. had to lose rubber backings that come w/. power needed.

GReat set components, the best and most clear you can buy. The detail of the music is unreal. You can hear music at another level in comparison to factory and ok after market speakers. The speakers were hard to put in my car althougth, the size made me lose the rubber pieces that were supposed to be on them. The speakers need to be fine tuned as well, these speakers hit so hard i had turn down my bass alot. All in all a top of line component set.

Strength:

incredible detail sound great at high levels.sound has an oponness ( not just blaring from speaker location)high wattage capacity. They look awsome

Weakness:

There HUGE made a 3/4 inch spacer ring and 3 layers of dynamat extreme to deaden the door but well worth it.

I just installed them yesterday in my crx.they are amazing.I've run mb quart, kicker resolution, and infinity these are all childs play compared to th focals.they are powered by a fosgate 250a2 and barley cutting a sweat I just bidded on a ppi 2150 amp (150x2) for them.

Strength:

clear, punchy midbass , powerfull vocals, transparent..could hear a lone flute in a middle of an orcheastra..its that good

Weakness:

big,....break in time is long...100+ hours...

bought the k2s after reading the reviews on this site...i was eager to try focals k2s for the first time...i was a little dissapointed at first, thought that was overratted coz i cant get the sound i wanted...the tweets were too harsh, but after changing the setting on the crossover and an hour of tweaks with the help of my friends, it was off and running...like wat i always wanted...warm mids & clear high...listen to all type off songs, from charlotte church to van halen....the vocals were powerfull, u can even hear the lips parting every time someone opens ones mouth to sing:)i have a friend who produces some local musicians/groups here in manila....used to play around with his studio monitors, he was awestuck by the clarity and precision of the bass...he even noted that he could even tell how far the mic is from the singer or how big the room is...crazy:) btw i paired it with a 13" focal sub.

Strength:

Overall great speakers. Deliver exceptional highs and midbass. Crossover allows you to ''tone down'' the tweeters if you find them too harsh. Midbass is astonishing, especially if mounted in a custom mount (like fiberglass kickpanel, etc).

Weakness:

These speakers have a massive magnet. Make sure you take measurements, I had to put my dremel to heavy use to get them installed.

I recently purchased and installed the Focal 165-K2''s in my car. I am pushing ~100W to them, and they sound excellent. It definitely is the focal point (haha, sorry for pun) of my stereo. The overall listening experience is very crisp and clear. They also pound out strong and tight midbass. I was deciding between the focals and the MBQuart Q Series, but after hearing the two sets side by side, the choice was obvious.

Strength:

Great looks with great performance. Tweeters are very efficient.

Weakness:

Pricey if bought retail and tweeters can be bright if fed more than 50wrms per channel.

Awesome speakers. I'm installing two sets in my 97 Camaro SS and the first set is just awesome. The clarity and reproduction is unimaginable for a car speaker. The 165K2 has great midbass response and this is with only 50wrms from a Phoenix Gold XS6600. I can't even imagine what it would it be like with 100wrms.

Weakness:

A bit pricey, but worth the money!

By far, the best mid/high speaker combo I have ever heard! Amp is the front half of a Soundstream Reference 644s. Sound quality detail is exceptional. Listen to these before you buy another brand.

I replaced my MB Quard PCS216 with these and what a difference.
