Strength:

Install into small spaces with a minimum of custom fitting. Performance as rated by the manufacturer is accurate. Perfect for high & mid frequency application on a budget. Once broken in 4" Mid's perform excellently.

Weakness:

Extremely long breakin time, I would estimate 400hrs.

I purchased these small component speakers to replace the factory 4X6's, in the dash, and the 4x10's in the B pillars of my S-10. I had to make an custom 1/2" M.D.F. baffle to mount them in the factory locations, as I didn't want to change the factory look of my Interior. I Run them off an Alpine F340 4 channel amp which has more than enough power to run them. Kenwood says these speakers can run as low as 50Hz, which I found is true, but I have had to turn the gains on my amp to almost minimum, to get prefered volume levels without distortion. But if you want to get the full 50 watts RMS @ 91db efficiency out of them Kenwood recomends in the fine print running them @ a highpass frequency of 150hz or higher, which I have also found to be very accurate. As I do not have a sub-woofer yet I have been running these speakers at 60hz highpass. Upon intial install, and a 30hr trip to California last summer, I found their performance lacking of any type of mid or bass response and the tweeters to be extremely bright. After using them at these frequency levels for almost a year I found they have broken in nicely and the 4" Mid's now produce their fare share of Mid and Bass. The tweeters are still and probably will always be way too bright for me but I attribute most of that to the dash mount location and the reflection off the windshield, I remedy this by leaving my treble setting at zero, on my deck. It's a 1" / 4" component set, don't expect extreme amounts of lows, run a sub for the 200hz and lower, or add a 6" mid/Bass for 150-400hz and make these a three way system.
