Strength:

Crystal highs that are not fatiguing at all. Swivel tweeter, great for imaging. Good vocals.

Weakness:

Not much below 85hz. But this it true with most 5x7''s. The shape of the cone is the problem.

This is a review for the 5x7. This speaker is very nice. It has a swivel soft dome tweeter. The tweeter is sounds great. Not harsh at all. Very detailed. TIP. If you like your ears to bleed, stay away from soft dome tweeeters. The bass doesn''t really kick in till about 85hz wih these, so make sure you have a sub. I mean they sound great, but a sub will help out any 5x7. I was considering geting components until I installed these. Now, I am satisfied. Oh, don''t forget about break in. It takes about 2 weeks untill the sound levels out. You will be happy. These can be bought new on Ebay for around $40.

Similar Products Used:

Infinity Kappa 572.3cf. The infinitys have a slighty better midrange, but the tweeters are horrible. VERY harsh.

Dynamic but not overly bright sound.great bass for a speaker only rated 80-20khz.

Weakness:

None.

I have the Orion Cobalt 5x7''s in my ford explorer and they are just great. They put out great accurate sound and incredible bass for a coaxial. These are as good or better entry level coaxils as any including infinity,mb quart, eclipse etc, etc.

Strength:

Uniqe 3ohm voice coils draw 33% more power from your deck or amp! 91db-92db sensitivity ratings, Pivital textile dome tweeters for focusing your imaging, 5 1/4" handle 40watts RMS/ 80 Peak, 6 1/2" handle 45watts RMS/ 90 Peak, & 6"x9" handle 50watts RMS/ 100watts peak. These coaxial components have GREAT clearity, especialy when run off an amp!!!

Weakness:

Not designed to play below 55Hz w/6x9, 60Hz w/ 6.5", or 90Hz w/ 5.25". This is why I would recommend using an amp on these for highs & mids but use a sub for your lower frequencies.

XTR series Components & midbass drivers have a LOT better response but that's cuz their desingned for competiton!!! The XTR's have a 91db rated sensitivity, 50watts RMS/ 100watts Peak, & run at 4ohms so you realy should run these of an amp. Or you can use the untouchable HCCA components which run at 2 ohms and take 100watts RMS/ 200watts Peak, 90db rated sensitivity, with a HIGHLY tunable crossover!!!!! But for those of you who don't want to dish out the $270 for the XTR Components or the $640 for the HCCA components but want something that will beat pioneer, kenwood, polk, infinity (the kappa's are compareable) then the Cobalt's are your best bet!
I LOVE the 6x9's I had in my Escort, put a pair in my friend's Neon, & going to put a pair in my Fiance's car!!! Already put a pair of 5.25" Cobalt's in my Fiances's car running of a Alpine 7854 Headunit & they sound great! Not to mention my 6.5" Cobalt's in my MX-3 running of an Orion Xtreme 400.4 w/ my 6.5" XTR Components are GREAT for the rear fill imaging!!!!!

Similar Products Used:

Pioneer, Kenwood, Polk, Infinity, MTX, JL, MB Quart, Jensen, Alpine, Rockford, ect... The Cobalt's are Orion's lowest line and still blow away most any thing out there, but there are some that can compare to the Cobalt's! As for the XTR's they are a LOT better than the others!!!!! And NOTHING can touch the HCCA's, I mean NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!

Strength:

Articulate, clear, and crisp sound; Bumpin bass

Weakness:

Mids seem a bit weak sometimes; may need an amp

I just got them for a $90 with installation and they are worth every penny. Powerful speakers that definitely bump, even without an amp.

Similar Products Used:

Prestige 6x9's get blown out of the water; These Orions are much more powerful than Boses.
