Strength:

good highs

Weakness:

decent bass

Good highs but need way too much power to get any kind of bass out of them. From all the pioneer speakers I've seen, i have failed to find a pair of good ones. I don't know about the premier series though. But theese kinda suck. Don't get them. Pay the extra cash to get something better like infinity kappa or something.

Model Reviewed: 1993 Pontiac Grand Am, 4-door

Strength:

Crisp mid's and highs, from 250Hz beyond 17kHz
Handles power very well

Weakness:

Help Wanted: One able-bodied amplifier
Slight resonation at ~80Hz

I recently threw out the stock GM doorstop radio and put in a Blaupunkt Alaska RDM168 "entry-level" radio (I have a recent review on that). Anyway, without an amplifier, these Pioneers will suck the life-blood (a.k.a. deck output) from your receiver yet produce little bass. Pioneer should put "Notice: Amp required" right on the box. Nevertheless, with an amplifier, these babies can really cook!

The Pioneer TS-A6969's are rated 60w RMS / 220w peak. I am driving them with an Alpine 3527 2/3/4-channel amp, running in bridged-mode (75w x 2), and let me say that these speakers have some serious teeth! They are capable of serious low-bass, too, but tend to distort or "baffle" at roughly 80Hz. I was able to boost 50, 63 or 100Hz on the Blaupunkt receiver without baffling or distortion; just keep 75-85 down and they'll do just fine. Of course if you have a serious system (unlike me), you'll let your subs take over the single-digits and this won't be an issue. As far as upper-bass, mids, highs and super-highs, these 4-ways will bite your ears off the sides of your head.

Strength:

Best speaker for the money. Nice Looking. Just as good as the infinties.

Weakness:

Not many....you need an amp if you aren't boxing them

These are quite possibly the best 6x9's on the market today. I've got a pioneer deh-3100 mofset 45x4 head unite and these suckers are like having a 10 behind each seat.

If you were installing them in a car, and just letting them hang they need to be amped (my friend also bought them for his 98 jetta). I have a 84 ford f-150 with a 302, and put the two speaks in boxes and put them behind the seat and f-ing good........unbelievable power!

IF you don't box the speakers amp them.....otherwise I'd say keep it rolling. I listen to dance music and they mofo's pound!
Great Bass.......super high's and perfect mids........pioneer's are leading the pack!

Strength:

BASS, and the other frequencies.

Weakness:

On the very hard hitting bass punches in a FEW songs, you have to turn the bass down becuase it sounds like its hurting the speaker. Someone told me it needs breaking in but who knows.

When I 1st got these speakers I mounted them from underneatch the rear deck as you must do with 6x9s in my car. The speakers were mounted driectly to a metal deck. When I played the stereo (50 RMS), i noticed that it sucked. The reason for this is that the metal could not handle the bass these things were outputting. So I applied dynamat in a few places and the bass is great, comparable to a subwoofer. However subwoofers Are smoother and can handle hard punches better but these handle the low tones better than I ever expected from non-subs. Oh yeah the mids and highs are also great, but then I have 6.5s in the front for the front, but the people in the back say they like it.

Weakness:

Need to be put on a amp but will still sound good without one.

I love em, I got 2 Pioneer 4-ways in the back and 2 Pioneer 2-ways in the front and 6 Pioneer tweeters. I love the 4 ways most of all I would recommend them to anyone!
