Pioneer TS A6985 Speakers

Pioneer TS A6985 Speakers

DESCRIPTION

- 2.375-inch PPTA balanced dome midrange with strontium magnet and magnetic fluid delivers excellent midrange performance for clear vocals and excellent reliability from the liquid cooling system.
- 0.75-inch dome tweeter produces excellent high frequency performance with exceptional non-directionality.
- 4-Way speaker operation features a 4-way crossover network, circuitry that separates the sound into ultra low frequencies, low frequencies, mid frequencies, and high frequencies. This more accurately reproduces the full spectrum of sound, with individual drivers (subwoofer, woofer, midrange, and tweeter) dedicated to specific frequency reproduction. A 4-way design is particularly helpful at isolating ultra low frequencies, adding realism and depth to the selection.
- Foamed pearl polycarbon is yet another high-tech driver material from the labs of Pioneer. Extremely lightweight, pearl polycarbon combines high sensitivity and smoothly extended frequency response free of peaks and dips. Its high inner loss results in very low distortion. Finally, this material has incredible durability, so it will withstand the rigors of living in a car.

Strength:

Great highs, strong but not piercing, decent power handling, cover a full range without distortion.

Weakness:

Bass not to be confused for a sub, but still sounds okay.

I'm just beginning to break these in, but they still sound excellent. I have them in MTX boxes on either side in the rear of my '89 Wrangler and they gave great highs with decent bass, especially with a good enclosure. They have a rubber surround and the cone is designed to resist UV rot, something that kept me from going with the Infinity's, since I'm in the elements often. I'm running them off a Sony 30x2 RMS amp, and it was enough to make them move without distorting much at high levels, after some gain adjustment. I do think that they perform better with the amp, and would definitely recommend using one to anyone planning on running mid to high end 6x9s. I just added a sub, and they complement it really well, the blend between them was easy to tweak for near perfection. The three smaller drivers provide all the highs you could need, and are quite clear without being painfully sharp, something I have encountered with other tweeters. Overall, a good speaker that isn't too expensive and fills the mid and highs in a rear deck without much fuss to install.
