Model Reviewed: Polk DB Componant set

Strength:

Good, accurate mid-bass. Very clear and detailed. Versitile crossover. Integrates well with the DB tweeters. Great bass output without being muddy.

Weakness:

Doesn't handle the lower bass notes (<70 Hz) very well...but that's what a sub is for.

These are the fourth set of speakers in the front of my Bronco and by far the best. I keep a modest system in the truck (we also have a car with higher end equiptment) and wanted to replace a pair of old JL cs series componants. I found a new 6.5" Polk DB componant set on ebay and won the bid for $150. I decided to bid on them because of excellant reviews, past experience with Polk's EX line and my friend has a pair od 6.5 DB in his Cherokee.

The speakers are mounted in my front doors in the stock locations. The tweeters are also mounted in the doors just below the woofers, angled slightly upwards. The crossovers are in the kickpanels. They are hooked up to a soundstream Rubicon 202 amp (50w x 2) with a Phoenix Gold EQ215X EQ/Crossover (crossover set to 90 Hz, 24 db/oct) and mated to a Alumapro Alchemy 12.

Overall I'm very happy with these speakers the highs are bright, clear and detailed. The midrange is detailed and warm, but not overbearing. Midbass is punchy and strong, also with excellant detail. These speakeers image suprisingly well in my truck, better than any other speaker that I've had in there so far.

The tweeters can be harsh if the crossovers are not set up properly...Polk gives you many configurations in regards to crossover point, slope and tweeter attunation to compensate for speaker placement. Also, the help of a modest EQ works wonders for these speakers, although you can get excellant results without one. I do recommend a seperate power amp to power these. My friend's set were originally run off of the head units's "35 watts" and sounded terrible. It was suggested that he get an amp instead of swapping out the DBs. Now they sound great.

I'm very pleased with the DBs and would recommend them to anyone looking for good sound.

Strength:

Crisp, clear, clean

Weakness:

none so far

I love this driver!!! After hearing the usual suspects, Pioneers, etc.....this one blows them away!! It is very detailed, and with a decent amount of power, plays crisply and cleanly. Exactly what I was hoping for!! Pay a little more for this, and I know you won't regret it.

Strength:

the midrange is warm and clean and they can handle pretty well at high volume

Weakness:

the tweeters they sound good yet they tend to resonate at a certain frequency that so far i am unable to fix with my eq

i got them for $160 and they are keepers i am not rich and i know there are 6.5s out there for alot more money so if you are looking for good clear sound and don't want to break the bank go for it

Strength:

Detailed, accurate and clean sound they produce.
Got them pretty cheap I think due to lack of supply of Polk Audio.

Weakness:

Struggles with lower bass, but thats not what they are designed for.
Polk is a hard product to find here in Australia. Shame because they produce some great speakers.

Am extremely Happy with the Polks, I love detail in my music and for a great price these do the trick. Can't ask for more for $250 Aussie!
