Strength:

Best in their catagory

Weakness:

Bass is acceptable but needs support...use with a sub!

I can't say enough good things about these speakers. Polk has done it again. The DX series has THE smoothest response I have ever heard in a car speaker and I've owned many over the years (i.e. MB Quart, Boston Acoustics, A/D/S, etc.) I've got a pair of DX7s up in the back and a pair of Polk's DX6s in the front (I stuck with the original factory sizes.) Believe me, I am one fussy individual and these puppies put a smile on my face every time I turn them on. They sound very much like a high quality home speaker. They may sound a bit flat at first but that's only because most car speakers don't have a very smooth response (either too hot in the high notes or a midrange that just makes you want to turn them down.) Not the case with the Polks, I just want to keep turning them up!

I would like to thank the other reviewers who previously posted their thoughts about these speakers. It was based on their recommendation that I purchased them in the first place. Now turn it up!!!

Strength:

Really good sound quality. If you block the bass you can get a ton of very loud, undistorted mids and highs out of these things.
Fits stock 5x7 cut out on many cars.

Weakness:

Hard to fit under factory grilles because the tweeter and mid stick out. I've got a 95 Mazda 626 and I cut the plastic support on my grilles in order to fit the Polk's. Gotta keep things hidden.

When I bought these, price was not an object. I wanted the best possible sound quality without hacking up my car.

As long as you have these crossed over with an amp, the polks simply blow away all of the above mentioned speakers. I cross them over at 150hz and let the woofers do all the rest of the work. Yes I said woofers, not subwoofers. I know just about every Sales rep on the planet will disagree with me but I don't care. They're wrong. The octave between 80hz and 160hz is still pretty bassy so why would you want to force your little 5x7's to generate that? If you don't send any bass to your 5x7's you can get at least double the mids and highs out of them. I'm using 2 Blaupunkt odw1200's with an MTX 1000D and a Soundstream A4 to power the Polks. Even though I'm only sending 25 watts each to the polks, they manage to keep up with the 768 watts I'm sending to the subs. It doesn't take much power to produce good mids and highs.
I definitely recommend the Polk dx7's. Great sound and a stock fit.

Strength:

sound quality is good for a stock size replacement speaker in my Ford Ranger.

Weakness:

Not as good as high $$$ components.

A good speaker ,but..... sounds better with at least 75 w per speaker, at that power this speaker comes alive. Clean smooth sound. with power it has some punch. I use them with a JL W3 sub with the HPF set at 80 so they don't use the lower frequencys the sound great./ Good speaker for the $
4 stars because they don't sound as good as the eclipse source point 5x7.

Strength:

Doesn't need an amp to sound good. Smooth clean sound.

Weakness:

There are better speakers of this size.

Overall a good sounding speaker. Not quite as crisp as infiniy's but smoother and better bass if you are using a deck only. Sounds good without an amp but better with one.
I liked the polk better than the Boston. The best speaker in this size is the Eclipse

Strength:

Great highs, very clear. Good mids. Sounds great even without an amp. I have them running off a Pioneer DEH-3100 headunit and they're awesome.

Weakness:

Some distortion with bass tracks.

Get these speakers if you want great sound at a great price. I didnt have to hack up my car to put these in. A good and easy way to get good sound. You'll want some subs for the bass though. I have some dynamat behind them and they are getting about 45 watts peak. Well worth it. I'd recommend them.

Better than Kenwood, Clarion, Eclipse, and JL. Bostons are just as good, maybe a little cleaner than these Polks.
