Strength:

Cosmetics, would be a decent sub if it did not have over inflated power ratings, should be rated at around 600 watts.

Weakness:

power handeling high faulure rate when powered with more than 600 watts if you don't believe me go to the Image Dynamics forum and look into the "repair" section and see all the people crying about blowing the IDMAX with 1000 watts.

Here we have the legendary IDMAX that is suposably God's gift to car audio subwoofer's if you listen to it's hype online...this is supposably the sub that eat's a JL Audio w6v2 for breakfest and also supposably compares to and beats a JL Audio w7 if you listen to all the jealous hater's.

So after buying into the online hype and trying an IDQ12v3 and finding a great deal from an authorized dealer going out of business I'd figure I'd try the IDMAX to see if forum opinions are truly garbage about ID products the IDQ was a complete waist of money so I was hoping this sub could change my mind about this company.
At first glance I realy liked the way this sub looked and felt to be much better quality than the IDQ put the sub in a 1,5 sealed box powered with an Alpine PDX 1000.1 and was immediatly happy with the sound at low-mid volume...at higher volumes it slapped and bottomed out..it became very apparent this sub is overrated I sold the sub to a friend who is running a JL 500.1 to it and this ended up being a nice combo but running 1000 watts to one is not good...in the end this sub is overrated/over priced/over hyped and is exactly opposite of what the forum hyper's say I hear all the time that Image Dynamics is great for the money...lulz if you call products built in China and doubling up the power ratings on paper to look good to get a higher price than this is the sub. A w7 absolutly mops the floor with this sub in build quality/performance in every way and I know this will tick alot of people off but a JLw6v2 even tops the IDMAx...don't belive me? measure the two to see which has a flatter BL curve and stays more linear through it's operating range....get a 1000 watt amp and run it on the IDMAX and then the w6v2 and see which one truly does well at higher power and then you will see. I'm not telling anyone to believe me compare for yourself

IDMAX-Another overhyped Image Dynamics product, this sub is essentialy a glorified over priced 600 watt sub.
13w6v2 best sub I have ever used period (running two right now)
12w7 great sub if it was not so deep
Alpine Type R 12 great sub for the money

Strength:

They look SICK. Big and heavy. They munch every other sub in medium wattage SQ compititions for preserving SQ at stupid output levels. These are dirt cheap at only US$270 off then net!

Weakness:

The only weakness is that these are not marketed more heavily. some owners have reported the roll-surround separating from the cone, but i suspect they were overpowering them too much.

This Woofer is a technological marvel! How so much SQ is preserved at high output amazes owners of every audioshop i visit! These sub's will not bottom out with less than 1200wattsRMS and are extremely efficient when wired in parallel. They also have a terrific frequency response in a ported 2cu/ft enclosure which is practically dead flat down to 40Hz before slow rolloff. Im amazed people will pay double for W7's, Eclipse Titanium's, and Diamond Audio TDX12's when IDMAX's outpound them with better audio quality. Oh well... i guess that just makes it easier for me to win competitions by having a lack of competition.

Orion. louder, worse SQ Diamond audio. good SQ but bad efficiency. Soundstream SPL15's. Tight...for 15's DD's - overpriced JLW7's - can you say marketing-makeover?
