Strength:

~ Very good SPL output in sealed box. ~ Built like a tank. Can't hurt this woofer unless you clip the amp that powers it. ~ Low freq. output can scare you - huge SPL's.

Weakness:

~ Speed. ~ Slightly over-priced, but good deals can be had.

This review is for the ID MAX-D2 V2 (Dual 2 ohm voice coils). Paid $360. + tax, including sealed box. The transient response of this driver, IMO, is not the best. My a/d/s SB7 sub (2x8", sealed box) KILLS it in the "quickness" department - hands down. But, do you really expect a massive 12" driver to keep up with an 8"? Won't happen in THIS lifetime. The ID MAX can be loud enogh to drive your car by itself - you might not need your engine except to keep the alternator going! But, as good as it is, I think it could use some improvement. I recently talked with Eric at ID, and he told me they're coming out with a new "V3" version of the MAX. Same voice coils, basket, and motor, but upgrades were done to the cone material, spider, and "Radiator" assembly. The new ID Max 12" will have an aluminum dust cap, so as to facilitate cooling. Also, sometime next year, ID will have a 15" version of the MAX. It kicks ass output-wise, but it isn't as "fast" as I'd like.

Strength:

Very strong and durable. It's nearly impossible to blow unless you put more than 1800 TRUE rms watts on it. Very wide frequency response (All the way down to 5hz!) so it's an excellent choice for all types of music. Excellent price for what you get (depending on where you buy it)

Weakness:

None really other than it takes a lot of careful tuning to get it to optimal performance.

Absolutely gorgeous. This sub can handle over 1000 continuous watts, which gives it an unltra-low frequency response while still putting out massive spl with excellent sound quality. It takes a lot to accomodate to it correctly, such as box size (sealed, bigger than 1.1cu but no bigger than 1.5cu) I had a 2 channel 760w Pioneer amp powering it, but it's hungry for much more. A lot of consumers have given it bad reviews because of what they're using to power it and the enclosure it's in. FOLLOW RECOMMENDATIONS IN THE MANUAL PEOPLE! I stepped up the the Jbl bp1200.1 class D amp and it sounds just excellent. There's no other word for it. It hits mega hard, and sounds suberb while doing it. Image originally made it to compete with the Orion HCCA's, and their mission was obviously accomplished. Now JL Audio has put out the W7 series to out perform the IDMAX. Sorry, JL fans, still not as good as this monster.
