Strength:

It is a powerful sub. I tested it in my house on a yamaha mosfet amp, the speaker is loud with no kind of distortion.

Weakness:

Its too heavey. With the vented box i made it has 50kg!

These subs are very sensitive to boxes. I tried bandpass, sealed and vented box. They play best in a vented box abaut 75 liters, the vent must be at least 22.5 cm long and have 110mm diameter! This sub is banging in my Fita Uno like hell! I would recomend it to proffesionals and audiophiles! This sub isnt for everyone who dont know what they have!
JBL rules !!!

Strength:

Ummm...they look ok...they sound alright. I have two in a bandpass box powered with a MTX BlueThunder amp. You need two of these to get any kind of decent sound.

Weakness:

Stated above...not that powerfull.

I paid $50 for each so I got a pretty good deal. when tuned properly and in pairs, they sound alright. Pretty "moving" in a bandpass box with enough power. I would recomend another sub. not this one unless you just want some quiet, subtle bass.

Strength:

High SPL!!! Good sound and massive body...

Weakness:

Too big enclosures...

I have tried it at home, and I can say that 1200 GTi is for high sound pressure levels.I have 2 Gti at home with 2x200W(not enough) amp. When my main speakers turn off, Gti`s just start havin` fun...

Strength:

Everything

Weakness:

none, by the way Hockey Cat from San Diego, CA does not know anything about this subwoofer. This subwoofer till this day is still one of the greatest subs ever made

This subwoofer is one of the greatest subwoofers ever made. I have two infinity perfects now but, when I had the two jbl gti in my car they made my hair go up. I was running 500 watts into both of them.

infinity perfects... the jbl hit harder........ but infinitys have more tight tight bass

Strength:

Strong bass; very low bass even in ported enclosure; accurate as hell, five notes sounds like five notes, not one note and a long boom that is so common in today's small enclosures.

Weakness:

At the mercy of the elements. I've heard this has been fixed in later models.

I used this speaker a good seven years ago, and I still miss it.
As I recall, it was in a 2.25-2.75 ft/3 vented enclosure and was very accurate and natural; and it got REALLY loud behind an Autotek 7600bts (1000w rms) and rarely distorted on regular music. I can't believe what these are going for these days, get one! I also can't beleive they never gained more widespread popularity. I guess that's because of their large enclosure size, and their slight unsuitablity for the car environment.
I can't wait to hear the 2001 GTi models.

Went directly from this sub to a JL 12w6. The JL, once in a slightly larger than usual box, (1.8 sealed) sounded just as good and extended lower, but did not match the output, at least not in that box. I have seen very few, if any, subs match the overall performance of the jbl 1200GTi, it's a shame that all of JBL's popular subs were so poor.
