I am a DIY speaker builder, and my latest project was a no-holds-barred subwoofer to complement my home theater. This sub was in the design phase for over 2 months because I wanted only the best bass. I listened to a huge selection of subs made for home and car audio, but it turns out that the 15W6 just obliterated the competition. The sub itself is a highly sophisticated bass-reflex design employing one 15W6, a 450 watt THX subwoofer amp, and a Paradigm X-30 control unit. The enclosure was built from 150 pounds of MDF(!), has two 4 inch flared ports, and a net internal volume of about 4.4 cubic feet (the sub also has many other elements to it, but these are my personal designs and I don't want to get ripped off, so they have been ommitted). Anechoic frequency response pegs the F3 point at 21Hz on the low end and 75Hz on the high end, with +or- 1.5db in between. But enough technical hooplah, lets talk about how this thing sounds. Basically this is the best bass I've heard from a 15 inch subwoofer. Honest! I'm not bragging. This sub is awesome in every respect. In room F3 is at an astounding 15Hz! This thing can shake the floor like no other! My first listening session was the Apollo 13 launch scene on DVD. Anyone who has experienced this scene on a good system knows that it contains some of the lowest bass in movie history. Knowing the kind of excursion the 15W6 is capable of, I expected a lot, but got more than I could have imagined. I was blown away! That gargantuan bass hit right at the beginning of lift-off came through so loud and deep I thought I was going to crack my drywall! Right after I whipped out my SPL meter and replayed the scene, this time only the sub running. I measured peaks of over 115db at my listening posistion! (close to 12 feet away). Considering that almost all the bass in the scene is below about 45Hz, that's DAMN GOOD! But loud and low is only half of this sub. The 15W6 driver is remarkably musical and clean, clean, clean. It brings out all of the subtleties in music and movies, never sounding boomy, slow, or weak. The sound is pretty much perfect for my tastes. This sub is the best investment I ever made in my HT, and to anyone who finds this review appealing, buy a W6 sub and build an enclosure! All the subs will give similar response curves, the only thing really changing being the output. I can recommend the 15W6 with absolute sincerity. This sub just KICKS ASS!!!

I HAVE THIS SUB IN THE BACK OF MY 95'NISSAN EXTENDED CAB TRUCK, I HAVE IT CENTERED POINTING UP IN A CUSTOM BUILT BOX, WITH 3 CUBIC FEET OF AIR SPACE, IT'S AN ENCLOSURE, NOT PORTED, I HAVE A KENWOOD PS 425 WATT AMP PUSHING IT, IT HITS SO HARD I HAD TO PUT DYNOMAT IN MY ROOF AND DOORS TO STOP THE RATTLE, IT SOUNDS GREAT, I'M COMPLIMENTED ALL THE TIME BY OTHERS WHO SAY THIS SOUNDS BETTER THAN ANY 2 12"

I give this sub FIVE, count em, ***** STARS for the fact that I can pull some impressive SPL out of a 15" sub with Actual SoundQuality that is hard to find in a 15" SPL machine such as this one. Enclosure size make a huge difference, I am running 3 at arround 1.19cu each sub, SEALED and with 1250Watts RMS clean power into all 3. This combinations works great for me, I am very satisfied at the moment with the effieciency and price of these subs. Highly recommend!

Strength:

Just mind blowing sound. Great for those who seek some rediculously loud bass. Digs really deep to hit those low frequency notes. Overall, just really loud.

Weakness:

Not recommended to those who seek clear sounding bass. These are made for rap and pissing your parents off. I think I overpaid but they are pricey anyways.

I bought this sub 5 years ago and it has just crapped out on me. I pushed it pretty hard with about 650 watts running to it. I have used for 5 years straight and it stood up strong since the day I bought it. I went through two amps in the time it took me to run this thing out. Good Good sub. I highly recommend picking one up if you have the means.

Strength:

Cool most recognizable looks, accurate linear behavior, superb sound quality, strong excursion movement, excellent customer support with recommendations of their product. Excellent output in a sealed box! A+

Weakness:

Outer edge above the foam surround. It tends to peal after a couple of years.

For more than 3 years and 2 vehicles, I have had the same set up. 3 JL Audio 15W6's in a sealed box accurately designed mathematically for 1.25 net internal feet each. 1.36 cubic feet insures we met the requirements. Soundstream Class A 10.0 and now MMATS D200HC powers them in a 1 ohm configuration. With all source materials on cd, I am very pleased with their linear behavior with low frequencies. There has been very strong sound pressure levels in my car exceeding 150 decibels legally. Sound quality blends easily with my MB Quart 215.61Q dash/door components with my rear OZ Audio CS130 components. These subs represent as close to perfect for overall sound quality and the ability to get loud. For audiophiles who want the best of both worlds with SPL and sound quality, look no further. I highly recommend!

Rockford Fosgate Pro Series. Did not blend well with music. I have used JL Audio W5 and W6 series for over 5 years and would not consider anything else.
