The 8W0 is a powerful performer in applications where enclosure volume and/or frontal area are limited. This small driver is a true subwoofer with excellent low-frequency extension in very small enclosures.

The blow to easy

These things blew on me in the first couple of months. I would never reccomend these to anyone. I now run Thump 10 inch, and there the bomb.

Strength:

Durable, will last a long, long time. Takes more power than rated for. You can get about 150 rms into one of these and not have it blow. I am running 120 rms right now. Plays quite low for an 8, good sound too.

Weakness:

It is only an 8 :( Old technology, no fangly fancy stuff (doesn''''t bother me, but I know some are into big surrounds and chrome)

Great sub for the size. I have done many installs for myself and others, and my new truck needed something, but I was flat broke (college). Two tens were called for, but barely scrapping up the change to eat everyday threw that out the window, along with the fact that I drive an 85 regular cab Toyota, NO room for subs. I built a sealed 0.4 ft^3 enclosure and am powering it with an old Sony EXM 302 that pushes roughly 120 rms to the sub, crossed at 80 Hz so my door speakers can keep up. I was amazed at how low this little thing will go while holding it''''s composure. Not like any other 8 I have listened to. Granted, it is not loud, but it gives the perfect blend with my 6 1/2''''s for very good sound quality. Even running low sweeps into the mid 30 Hz range it does great, better than paper would suggest. It also handles all 120 rms fine, even though it is rated at 75 rms. If you don''''t have much room for a sub, like in my situation, I suggest you give this one a try. JL''''s are proven to be very durable, and work well in a variety of enclosures. You aren''''t going to win comps and rattle windows, but for a daily driver more concerned with sound than boom it is a good sub.
