Model Reviewed: 2002 Kicker Comp 12 8 ohm

Strength:

Loud, precise, hits every range pretty good; low price

Weakness:

Low RMS, distorts quite a bit on higher notes (the only way I noticed this was to open my trunk and listen...otherwise the bass was so boomy I couldnt really tell)

I got two of these subs and ran them 4 ohm Mono with my Kenwood 929. That's roughly 150 watts to each sub. Anyways, I was really impressed with the sound for quite a while...well, for a little while. They hit very precise for their price range, that'd have to be my biggest surprise. The higher bass notes are hit well, but the really low frequencies were mediocre, I've heard Sony Explodes (which suck) hit low notes just as loud. But thats not the main reason I can't use these subs. I went through 2 of them in 4 weeks (almost exactly 2 weeks for each sub)...I thought they could at least handle 150 watts, but... So, if you get these, remember that they will blow easily, even if it isnt immediate. I have two Kenwood Excelon 12's runnin now and I couldn't be happier.

They seem to take just about anything you throw at them.

Weakness:

None for the price!

I have two of these, and I ran them off my XS100 for a little while at 4ohm mono. These subs will surprise anyone, they can easily take over 250 watts a piece, real good for the beginner SPL competitor,I hit a 137 with them in my Integra,I can't believe they're so cheap!

Strength:

Cheap and can be a very good SPL performer for a tight budget.

Weakness:

It''s a fairly hard load for an amp to drive(In my slot port box at least).

Puts out tons of bass from my custom slot port box, a surprising bargain. It absorbed all the power my home power amp(around 300 watts RMS and 1000 peak) without a sweat, it can handle more than its rated power, although the smell of the voice coil getting hot is quite noticeable after the music has stopped. I''m planning to put this to the test with my soon-to-be-fixed Proton D1200, an amp that supposedly cabable of "enormus dynamic output", all the way to 2400 watts, as it says on the amp.
