Strength:

Awsome speaker for the price paid! I love them. I am tempted to buy a set of higher level Polk Audio subs. They also came with a great owners manual which includes everything you need to know, including recomended enclosures for these subs.

Weakness:

No rear gasket. Should have used better quality terminals. Don't have as much excursion as I would like.

I purchased these speakers in a buy one get one free sale at Circuit City. I have them installed in a 3cu. ft. Bandpass box (1foot rear chambers and 1 foot front chamber) tuned to 34Hz. I also have a Rockford 500a2 amp running the subs at 4ohms or 250 into each one. They pound out bass to the tune of an ear splitting, 135DB in this configuration!!! They made my rear view mirror shatter and come unglued from my windshield! I have them crossed over at 80Hz with an Audio Control Crossover. They still have a decent amount of SQ at low levels, but at higher levels they just pound. Before this setup, I had them in a ported enclosure, 1.5 ft a piece tuned to the resonant frequency of my 95' Hyundai Sonata which is 34Hz. They hit hard like this, not like they do now, but they had great SQ at almost full volume. I also have Mb Quart separates mounted in custom door pods in the front, and a set of Image Dynamics horn loaded compression drivers mounted to the bottom of the dash. The front end is powered by a Rockford 250.2 and 2 Rockford 100z2s all amps are wired from the battery to a 4 way fuse block in the trunk via 2awg power wire. 4 Street Wires 1 farad caps power all of the amps so that my headlights don't send Morse Code. Yes.... it is loud!!!

Strength:

VERY accurate, hard hitting, extremely smooth bass. Doesn't need much power to make your panels rattle, and they do rattle with this baby!

Weakness:

Calling it 'entry level';It's SO much better than that!

I purchased this single 12" Polk EX subwoofer from eBay, well for the simple fact that I had absolutely nothing to lose at the price of $26.00, and after owning a old set of Polk MM3065 6.5 midbass/tweeter combo,(the only speakers I have ever refused to part with after several complete system 'make-overs', and I mean complete),that have a truly amazing tweeter, I figured their subs can't be a let-down. After listening to this subwoofer, it makes me wonder why I never considered buying a Polk subwoofer before. To say that this sub is awesome would be a HUGE undertsatement. I still can't believe that this is an entry level subwoofer! The only thing that makes it an entry level subwoofer is the price--that's it! I don't even have it in the recommended enclosure(it's in my old Cerwin Vega sub box-2 cubic ft ported, a 0.95 cubic ft sealed box is recommended by POLK) The sound quality is absolutely phenomenal, and it keeps getting better as it breaks in. The bass is TIGHT, and HARD. I hear transitions in bass notes I'd never heard in my music, almost as if my music sounded new again. I'm currently rebuilding my whole stereo, and I'm using a Rockford RFX 9400 head unit because of the incredible sound quality this deck is capable of. After hearing this subwoofer, it made me wonder what a higher priced Polk sub could do so I bought a Polk MOMO MM100 10 inch sub, MOMO 6.5 mid/tweeter combo for the front, and Polk DX 5.25 mid/tweeters for the rear, and I'm waiting on 2 Planet audio tube amps to install my new system. This sub seems to sound excellent with a wide variety of music. What I really noticed is that rap/hip-hop music sounds SO much better with a tight, smooth sub---all with no sacrifice in SPL! Rock is loud and crisp. The bass transitions are very clear and extremely accurate, with only 120 watts amp running it, this sub is very efficient. All this for only $26.00. This is by far one of the best subwoofers I've heard at any price. YOU WON'T BE DISAPOINTED!

Everything, You can use them in practically any box.

Weakness:

None

I got these subwoofers on a buy one get one free special. I was a little hesitant but after reading the reviews on this site I was convinced. I have a Sony Xplod 150x2, 380x1 amp powering them. To tell you the truth I was amazed at how good these subs performed. I paid a little for them and got big time sound. I wish the cone excursion was bigger but it is ok they still hit. I just bought the Polk GNX's see how they do.

Weakness:

ohhh yeah

OHHHH BOY. I bought these from a trusted friend. Needless to say he never used them. I have receipts too and thank god he bought a 2 year warranty on them. SOund great, but im getting a sealed box cuz bandpass is too airy for me. Anyway, they were emitting a strong odor, like burning silicon, but i was told the surrounds or coils were just getting hot and not to worry since they were under warranty. WEll, the other day they went on fire in car!!!!!!! Circuit city better take these peices of crap back!

Strength:

The subs dont take much power at all to sound good, so good subs for the people that dont want to spend much on an amp. pretty good sq.

Weakness:

The subs have small xmax, and dont have much for spl.

These subs have been very good to me, no problems at al. I have them in a bandpass enclosure, they hit pretty loud. they are running of a JL 250/1 amp. they have pretty good SQ with a lil bit of spl. Some of the best subs, for the price, or if you are just casually in the audio "game" i believe i will upgrade to (2) alumapro alusonics 12". The polks are nice subs overall

Similar Products Used:

subs are very comparable to mtx 6000 (polks much better SQ, not quite the spl), also a lil better than the fosgate punch Z 12 inchers.

sound quality, sound quality, sound quality

Weakness:

none for being an entry level sub

I listened to this sub at circuit city and was absolutely impressed. I couldn''t believe an entry level sub could have such good sound quality. The only thing i don''t like about this sub is the x-max is only 4.5mm. But that''s not a problem because i don''t need the bass to drone out the music from my other speakers. I''ve had these subs hooked up to two different amps. The USacoustics amp was a joke compared to the Orion amp. The Orion puts out an extreme amount of CLEAN power. Make sure you hook up a quality amp to these subs to make them sound their best. My system includes: Pioneer 4300 receiver JBL GTO series 6x9''s JBL GTO series 5 1/4" components 2 Polk EX12''s Orion 2150sx amplifier (150x2 @ 4ohms, 300x2 @ 2ohms, 600x1 @ 4ohms) 8 gauge power/ground wire 14 guage speaker wire 40 amp fuse 1 farad tsunami capacitor I eventually want to upgrade to a pair of Polk dx or Polk momo 12" subs. I want to use the full potential of the Orion amp.

Model Reviewed: Polk EX 12"

Strength:

Price, Thump, Quality, Possible Applications. Plays HipHop/House/Bass music flawlessly.

Weakness:

Doesn''t handle Rock/Metal well, but well enough for the money. Will suck alot of juice, need a power cap.

Its ridiculous that you can pay half the money and get twice the performance. I can''t breathe correctly when I crank them up halfway. I am running a pair of 12" Polks in a large ported box on an old Kenwood KAC-923 and I am getting incredible lows. I can''t wait to install them in the recommended medium sized sealed or bandpass box. I am thinking about switching my amp and adding a RF Power 500.2 or 800.2 amp on these subs until i can get my hands on a pair of RF Power HX2, because that is the only thing I would replace what I have now with. It will take a competition grade system to out-bump these Polks. If anyone has any recommendations on this set up please e-mail me at ShortDoggie@Hotmail.com
