Strength:

Very durable wont blow even if i tried.thw 170 weighs about 20-30 pounds.Talk about heavyweight!Very tight bass for a 15. very loud in a ported box.Hit 147.3 db with 2 of them in ported box run by class A10.2. Small enclosure size.I put these in my hatch of me 87 escort.

Weakness:

nothing

I paid $450 can. and the best investment so far.Any one that wants take your breath away bass the spl170 is the best on the market.Iwas told by my friend that they rattle his windows when i pull up with it at half volume. If youve got the money go for the spl170 the can outbeat the solobarics any day of the week.

Strength:

Loud and powerful

Weakness:

lower range hits in a ported enclosure= death to subs

I have 2 spl 12's powered by an orion xtr 2150 in an 89 integra hatchback. 145.5 nuff said. bro had 4 spl 12's in an 88 bronco II powered by 2 orion xtr 2150's he hit 152.8 and that was in 1997!! only thing i get beat by in comps are 15" strokers. all i can say about these subs is if you run cheap power you get horrible results

Strength:

Small box or large box, it doesn't matter...the sound is intense!!

Weakness:

it weights a ton...when moving them from box to box...

paid $200 plus...I have recommend it to everyone that I know..that like loud systems.. Well, let me tell you that I had just spl12s...running them on a ref500, bridged mono@1 ohm....I had that in two different cars, one was a 93 ford probe...people thought I was running 18's...and when they found out that I was just running 12's..they were very impressed...after that car was sold....I put them into a 96' stratus...they pounded..they would make you loose your breath. with every hard beat, but of course they were in a large box(2.5 per side) ported at 45 htz(in both cars) ....
had the customer tested to see what the dbs were..they hit at 142.3...not bad for a small system. Also I was running a USA 204(soundstream of course) with Lanzar components..not a shabby system but not the best........I loved it!!...everyone should by spl12s if they want BASS, for a sealed box the bass is tight tight.....and for the people that don't loud, heart stopping, body shaking , ..bass ...don't buy this....if you are like me....save and buy...

Model Reviewed: 1999 SPL 170

Strength:

I've had a SPL 160 hooked up to a 300 watt amp and i hit 139.4, but now i have a SPL 170 hooked up to a SS Rubicon 702 and i am hitting mid 140's.If you want SPL go with the SPL series but if you want SQ then go with the Exact series. these subs rule. Also i have had a pair of SPL 12's that kicked butt.

Weakness:

None works good in any box low distortion and hits the lows like you wouldn't believe.

I paid about 450 for this sub.

Strength:

loud, scare your neighbors loud. good excursion, low distortion. deep bass. super high output

Weakness:

weaknesses, ya(Grin), none

I bought 2 soundstream spl 12 inch subs. These are rated at 300 rms a peice. I hooked them up to a clarion apa1200 amp. This is an excellent amp that is rated at 300 rms bridged, but this mono amp is running at over 500 rms bridged. These subs sound awesome, ring your eardrums loud. The box i have it in is a little big, but does it ever put deep bass into the subs. I love the sound of these subs. best i've heard. i would recommend these to anyone interested in loudness, wow unbelievable loudness. my buddy has 2 spl 170's and let me tell you, i can't sit in it. he has won many competitions with them and they are nice. i highly recommend the spl line for bass and for a sub that would scare your neighbors kids.

These speakers are the best. I would not use any thing else that spl's. They go very loud and are still clean sounding.

The SoundStream SPL is an overall good speaker. It has a great low destorion rating and can really hit those low db's. My recomendation if you where to get the SPL you should get eather the 12inch or the 15inch 10s are alright but whene going for the SPL's you should go for the bigger sized speaker.

I have the soundstream spl 12's.........I have two 12" powered by a 600 watt amp...The soundstream spls can go very low.....the db in my car is about 120+db with only two spl 12"s .......can it can go loader if you configure it right , like push each sub with 300 watts each...I havn't configured mine just yet, but the person that I bought it from said his own measured up to 136db...So soundstream is a very good product.....

These are my first set of subs. I got two 10" spl's. Vibrates and doesn't really sound GOOD. I like how it vibrates so when i turn it up, it covers all the rattling in my car. Not too many people can hear the rattling so thats good. But for quality wise? Sad.

I've got the SPL160 bridged in parallel to a Soundstream Reference 500 amp. The result? It kicks the asses of anyone in the car, and that's when it's not even turned up. This line of subs is for in your face, gut-wrenching, ear-bleeding bass; if you're looking for an audiophile's sub, try the Exact series. But since it's billed as an SPL sub, and it sure does the job, I'll give it 5 stars.
