Strength:

Good as a hockey pucks, cause it does a lot of damage and it it dead weight.

Weakness:

Was hard to get off the car even when applied correctly. It ruined my paint job 3-4 days after applying it (100% correctly-- I know, I have been waxing cars for 10+ years).

Two words: Paint bubble. I bought the Turtle Wax Extra Hard Paste Wax for my 1992 Honda Accord with high miles, but nearly perfect paint (still as shiny asa mirror with only 2 known scratches on the car---this before the wax. I applied the wax correctly, to a cool car, in the shade, after a good wash with soap made for cars (not Dawn that harms wax and paint finishes), I buffed to a shine..etc. etc. etc.... About 32 days later my paint started flaking off and bubbling up. Within a week the paint on my hood looked light that of those early 90s GM.Chevy cars with the paint fade, peeling on the hood and all flat surfaces (you know which ones I'm talking about). Even my trunk paint, usuially the best paint on a car due to no bug/rock hits, etc was peeling. I WOULD NOT BUY ANYTHING ELSE FROM TURTLE WAX.

Strength:

Low cost and easy off (liquid)

Weakness:

Not a spectacular shine, but still respectable.

Have no complaints. I have yet to find a wax that lasts more than a few months. I have used both the paste and liquid version of this. Stick with liquid. It comes off sooooooo much easier. Durability is no worse than most brands I've tried and it costs alot less. It does not shine as well on a dark vehicle as Meguilars 3 step process, but then, I have no intention of spending 3 hours doing the cleaner, polish, wax process. Its only a car and depriciation on a 10 year old vehicle because of the difference between great and very good on paint is not much. Anyone buying a 6 year or older car is not after a showpiece, but rather reliable transportation, so I'll sacrifice a couple hundred bucks for having a couple hundred hours of time for the duration of my ownership. If you have a light colored vehicle, the difference in shine is minimal.

Strength:

Better durability than many waxes (including the ridiculously expensive ones which cater to illiterate moronswith too much money burning holes in their pocket... Zymol) Also doesn't make too many ridiculously exagerated claims. Honesty is good.

Weakness:

Shine lacks a little lustre, but still acceptable.

Thank you for those 2 non-biased and uninformed plugs for Meguire's... straight from their marketers. Ok- on to dispel the myths. I too fell for the Meguire's 'wash off in first rain' wax advertising- vlaiming it was glasslike etc, but like everyone else I was ripped off. It looks relatively decent compared to some generic waxes, but it doesn't last more than a couple weeks. Don't take my word for it. It's all over the web. READ. Or use it and pay attention. See how long water continues to bead on your hood. Nu Finish, is just as big a lie as Meguires. It in NO WAY lasts a year. Maybe a couple months. But considering the competition generally lasts for even less time AND the fact that the shine is superior to Meguires, I would have to say this is probably the best balance between durability and shine. There are waxes out there that shine marginally better at most, but those that do don't last very long. Turtle wax on the other hand is a fair choice. If you can't find Nu Finish, this is the one I would probably go for. Check Consumer Reports to back my claim, or if you're really bored, just try them all yourself :)

The basic turtle wax rated extremely well by consumer report in 2000. The expensive stuff doesn't work any better than the cheap stuff but most people think that by paying extra they're getting a better product. Paying more for equal or lower quality just makes you a sucker. Think about this: how hard or expensive do you think making car wax is? That's right, not very much. That Zymol has pruducts in the $100's for a small tim shows you it's all about the image of the product as opposed to actual performance.

Strength:

NONE. I cannot believe that people actually use cheap waxes such as this. It is terribly harsh on your paint and why cheap out for $4 can of subpar wax??? Rather pay for a paintjob???

Weakness:

Harsh on paint, creates swirl marks, last only a short while, etc.......

The best car car is done in 3 seperate steps...clean, polish, wax. But, some folks don't want to do this - so for them, get a good quality one step wax. Leave the cheap waxes on the store shelves, they are not worth the few dollars saved. Turtle Wax has always been cheap along with those others like Simonize, Rain daince, etc... Go with the good names!! It is easier to use thier products, they deepen the shine and last longer for a few dollars more. Gee - it is so elementary!!

Hey, if you guys want a GOOD 1 step wax, try Meguires Cleaner Wax in liquid form. It is only around $6 and does a create job for an all in one product. It goes on easy and comes off easy, too. Plus they practically invented premium wax products. But, also do not leave out the fine products from Mothers and Griott's Garage (mail order).

Strength:

N/A

Weakness:

Can be rough on car (especially black cars)
Swirls the paint

It's an average wax and good if you're cheap and don't care about your car.
Meguiars is much better. It's easier on the finish and leaves a deeper, rich color and actually replenishes the paint with valuable oils to prolong the paints life. However, it does cost a little more (but a lot cheaper than a paint job!)

Meguiar's Gold is MUCH better

Strength:

Inexpensive, reliable, easy to apply, and comes with it's own applicator (in the small can version).

Weakness:

You will need to rewax the car about every six months, possibly less often if you keep your car is parked in a garage at night. Leaves white wax marks on plastic trim.

It's a good, relatively cheap car wax. The price around here (central Illinois) has come down to about $2.50 a can (as of June, 2000).

Nu-Finish (also good, but I just prefer Turtle Wax)

Strength:

None

Weakness:

None

Good shine, but not very durable. Used product and seemed to wash off with the rain and heat common here in the Southwest. Lasted about 3 weeks, then no more beading - as if no wax on vehicle at all. Seems to be a little rough on the finish, especially on dark colors.
