bought this a month ago, been looking at it for a few months before. WORTH EVERY PENNY! power gains noticable on first test run. you get what you pay for, especially with cars. sounds like a race motor, not a weedwacker(i.e. most civics)

just stock, this is an expensive hobby so if you get into it, be warned, highly addictive when you buy quality like this

Strength:

Very high quality, stainless steel construction, mellow tone, good power

Weakness:

loud for daily driving on highways, but still better than N1 style or fartcans

Wow...super nice. Looks great and has fantastic tone. Not like those fart cans that most people have. I purchased the stealth model because of its mellower tone and geared toward a different RPM range than the classic. I can honestly feel the difference w/ this system. Only downside is how loud it is for daily driving. If it had a silencer or something that would be great.

Model Reviewed: thermal research stealth exhaust

Strength:

stainless good construction quality

Weakness:

louder than I had hoped, for 'stealth' model reduces ground clearance

Stock exhaust resonator broke off from B pipe (no rust, just weld broke!) got this as replacement. Might be more performance, can't really tell; I was hoping it wouldn't be quite this loud but I don't mind that much. well constructed, installed easily, heavy gage steel, isn't corroding, but reduces rear ground clearance a big.

Strength:

Polished to Cat Stainless Steel Mellow tone Not loud at highway speeds Will be around when my car is made into a pop bottle very easy install

Weakness:

the price but that is what it costs for that much stainless steel It does rub on my heat shield a little so it rattles when I turn my car off and on (not exact fit, but close)

It has a nice mellow tone, not raspy like the coffee cans some cars have on them. It is also quiet at highway speeds, I can barely hear it when I am going 70. This polished look is very nice, I am sure that it will last a lot longer than my car. The install was so easy!

Model Reviewed: '91 Honda CRX Si

Strength:

- Excellent construction - Bolts-up to the car easily - Sounds awesome - Looks awesome - Most likely gives you HP increase - Will definitely outlast the car if you get the SS version

Weakness:

- Like any other aftermarket exhaust system, you'll spend some dough for a quality system like Thermal's

I've had two Thermal R&D exhausts on my '91 CRX. The first one was one of the first available in central Ohio. I purchased it from Passen Motorsports ($350) in the Spring of '96. It was non-stainless and did not have a resonator in the b-pipe, just 2-1/4" mendrel-bent piping all the way back to the muffler. It had a nice deep, throaty sound without the raspiness of other systems on the market. I absolutely loved it for a year and a half until it started buzzing at mid-range RPM (4-5k). I was told adding a resonator (ie. a straight-through glass pack) would rectify the situation. Well, I was planning on doing that until the back half of the exhaust system was damaged by road debris (yes, it was pretty darn big road debris!). So in the fall of '98 I purchased a full stainless system from Slick Motorsports ($450). This one had the resonator right in the b-pipe. Craftsmanship was wonderful and everything bolted up nicely. And it sounded awesome, too! The resonator toned things down even more than I had expected. Still with a deep tone, it was much quieter than my original Thermal. I loved this one, too, and my neighbors started being a little more kind to me. ;) I can't say I got killer power gains from it since I never put it on a dyno. Would I buy another? Probably not considering I sold my CRX. But even if I did have a car to put one on I'd probably just go the custom route. At the time I bought my 2nd Thermal, I was in to pouring money into my car. The more logical being that I am now can't justify the cost of a shiny, new cat-back system. Summary: the Thermal R&D SS system is HIGHLY recommended (by me) if you want to spend the cash
