I have been a 21st Century customer since 1984. I have never had any difficulty getting claim service or account assistance. Claims have always been paid in a timely, satisfactory manner.

Strength:

Good Rates. I figure that I''ve saved 2-3000 over the years as compared with being with State Farm. According to a bill insert, policy holders of 5+ years should not experience any drops or big rate increases.

Weakness:

Minors: My parents had 20th Century insurance when I turned 16 twenty plus years ago. Twenty Century was on this event quickly and gave my Father lots of trouble. He wound up moving to State Farm. When my kids turn 16 I''ll probably need to switch if history repeats itself with me.

I''ve been using 21st Century for 15 years. I haven''t had any claims during this time and enjoy the low rates. I got concerned a little after reading reviews of people not getting their bills on time and getting dropped. I got to thinking that our bill is due soon and was about to call customer service on this matter. Low and behold the bill was in today''s mail and it went DOWN a little from last time- what a surprise!

State Farm- good service but the rates are higher. You also get the sells job on their other products: Life, House, etc.

Strength:

Competitive rates

Weakness:

Very poor customer service

I was a 21st Century customer for almost 8 years and had a good rate. You''d think they would value you as a long time customer but it turns out they couldn''t wait to get rid of me as a customer. An automatic deposit account with my bank didn''t occur in time that left my account exposed. There was plenty of time to notify me that the check did not clear but it turns out they wanted it to lapse. They provided no customer service and basically told me "buh bye"

20th centry has the best rate and best service. It is head and shoulder above all other scum bags like AIG who nickled and dimed me to death.

Strength:

Low rates. 24 hr claim service.

Weakness:

Limited mileage for tow service, difficult to contact aduster.

Good until you get into an accident. Depends on the adjustor. Recently involved in an accident April 28. Getting the claim setup was quick, but dealing with the adjuster stinks. I'm calling him out--name is Alberto Perez, San Jose office. My car was in repair for over a month and he still hasn't contacted the other party's ins. (Coast Nat'l--a bad insurance co. at that). Something about after 10 min. on hold he has to move on to another case. No excuse if it's been over a month since the accident. Left messages w/o response until I talked to a supervisor. He finally called and said the same BS the supervisor said. Next step is a lawyer to deal with both insurances.

Strength:

Lowest rates I've found, but need to be a "good driver" to get the great rates. Good repair facilities.

Weakness:

Poor customer service. Expect rates to increase substantially if you file a claim.

Great insurance if you never need to use it. I had been insured with 20th/21st century for nearly 10 years with no claims filed. Their premiums were the lowest I found for someone like me who has a clean record.

However, when I finally got in a fender-bender and filed a claim I could not even get the adjuster to answer the phone or return a call, investigate the claim in a timely manner, or even closely read my statement. I had to write a complaint letter to the area manager to get the adjuster to return a call, and when he did he was arrogant and not very helpful. Other people report good experiences with 21st century, but perhaps my adjuster is not typical... the service was atrocious.

Further, the low rates only last as long as you are a good driver and file no claims. Because of a relatively small claim (~$1200) my rates have since *DOUBLED*.

Strength:

OK rates.

Weakness:

Failed to take responsibility for their mistakes.
Cannot reliably send premium notices to a requested mailing address (a very simple clerical task, with potentially significant consequence.)
Panders to mediocrity- Expect better and go somewhere else.

I had been with this company for over 5 years with 3 vehicles, no claims and no moving violations. I had always liked this company and had recommended them on several occasions. I recently had a drastic change of opinion.

This company failed to send my premium notices to my twice requested mailing address. As a result, I was unaware that my policy had lapsed, and that I had been driving for well over a month without coverage.

The company initially refused to reinstate the policy even after they admitted they had records of both requests for a mailing address change.

The manager who "researched" my file was vague, unapologetic, not forthcoming and rude. The manager attempted to shift responsibilty to me by making escalating requests for various documents. After two days of "negotiations" and frustration I decided to seek coverage elsewhere.

Even if I had seen this situation through, because of this individual,
*** I no longer trust this company in its ability to responsibly provide coverage for its policy holders.***

State Farm and other companies that use agents - There is no customer/agent relationship <- this can be very important when things go wrong.
