Strength:

customer service, claims

We have been with AAA for 8 years. Every year I get quotes from other insurance companies in the hope of getting a better price. I have never found a better price. We have had a few claims mostly other drivers, with other companies, at fault. AAA has always been great. They have taken great care of us and our vehicles whether or not we were at fault.

Weakness:

AAA didn't care about their customer's right. They just want to settle the accident as soon as possible. The lose will end up going to customer's premium.

My wife got in car accident a couple of months ago. She took the pictures of the other car's damage at the scene. Later, AAA decided it was my wife's fault and if the damage is more than $750.00. AAA will count as 1 point and the premium will increase $200.00. The adjuster described the damage included real left door. But, there was any damage on the real left door from the pictures that my wife took.

Strength:

Big name, strong affliation with various dealerships, strong financial background.

Weakness:

Customer service, too big

Used to be a big fan of AAA. I am a member for 20 years, and I have both home and multi-car policy with them. I had an accident October 2006. I was rear-ended by another vehicle. I went to the body shop I used before, which is associated with the dealer. Everything went ok, until my car was held longer by the body shop because the part was damaged, they had to wait for another part. That implied I need to rent longer. My policy auto rental did not cover for a van, which I need. But since it was other party's fault, I went ahead and submit a claim after. I sent in the paper to the AAA "contact", and I never heard back from them. They warned me it would take a long time, so I just waited 3 months. I just called today and found out my reimbursement claim has been denied. I had to call another AAA "contact" to find out the status. I asked the "contact" what I should do to help get the reimbursement. They said I should call the other insurance. The person I talked to in AAA was not helpful, like, "it was you fault, go deal with it yourself." Why am I paying them if they are not doing anything to help. The other party's insurance company, GEICO, seems to have better customer service. That really prompts me to think about switching. I guess customer loyalty worths nothing to AAA.

State Farm (but would not recommend, it was hard to make claims, or even talk to the agent I had)

Strength:

The AAA brand name due to their tow/travel packages gives a false impression about the quality and service of their other services

Weakness:

It appears you are not really dealing with a AAA company but a insurance broker firm using the AAA brand to harvest customers

Going to AAA was my WIFE'S idea to save some money on our insurance including HOME insurance. She was under the impresstion that there were some discounts available to her as a nurse..of course...when we applied they were "no longer available" AAA hypes you into thinking they will save you money. They try to bait and switch. They try to time it so that you are up against a "time wall" with your existing provider so you may be in a situation that you have to make a quick decision. Prices are not very competitive. Salesman was very helpful at first. When he called on the "hard quote" not only was his price not any good he was wishy washy and talking about his "underwriters" like they were some outside unseen force that he had no control over...who needs HIM? All in all it was like dealing with your typical sleazy bait and switch insurance low life. Bait you with a low price...then slam you later...obviously AAA is for people who have no other choice or who have been mis-represented to. After coming to my home and taking pictures of my cars, motorhome, my bathroom shower stalls floors and kitchen he called me and told my "his underwriters" couldn't insure my 1989 auto due to a dead odometer...cripe it has 250,000 mile what's to insure? TOTAL WASTE OF MY TIME..

Pleasent to deal with.

Weakness:

Expensive

I was involved in a car accident with a guy that was insurewd by AAA (like me) therefore the deductable of $500.00 was waived. That was kind of cool. Great customer service. I encountered no problems with them at all. I got all genuine auto parts.

Bad customer handling

I contacted AAA for a new auto Insurance in TX. The agent was responsive initially and gave me a very competitive quote. I gave him all the documents and asked him if this was final. He said it was.

When I tried to contact him again after 2 days, there was no response. I left him several voice messages and e-mails thereafter but there was still no response.

Later I called a different agent from AAA for a quote and this time it was very high. I realized then that the agent had given me a wrong quote and wanted to avoid me.

I guess there are a few Insurance companies who walk their talk and one of them is GIECO. They have excellent claims handling, you never have to bother when you have an accident.

salesperson was very uninformed
seemed quite shady

We've been shopping around for homeowners and auto insurance rates. We were impressed by AAA's low rates, at first. We started to get a really bad feeling from the sales guy we were dealing with. We are currently with State Farm but were unhappy with our agent's customer service, so we thought we'd see what else was out there. We received quotes from Allstate and AAA Insurance. We wanted only one of our cars to be designated a pleasure class vehicle, since it is not driven much. The other one is driven a normal amount. When we questioned the AAA sales person as to why he designated both cars as pleasure class, he told us it was no big deal, to just leave it as he had it. It only _really_ mattered if you were using the car all the time, as in a travelling salesperson. That was a red flag for us, that is not how any other auto insurance company "defines" a pleasure class vehicle. We started bugging him to change the quote so only one car was designated pleasure class. We didn't want to run into a situation down the road, if we have to file a claim, and were questioned about the car's class status. It seemed like the agent was trying to give us the cheapest rate available, whether we deserved it or not, since he knew we were shopping around for rates. He also gave us several discounts for our homeowners rates that we did not qualify for. We specifically told him we did not have certain discounts, but he applied them anyway. That sounds very nice, but kinda illegal, and also probably will present problems down the road if we ever had to file a claim. Regardless, bad vibes from AAA Insurance, we are staying away...

Will probably stay with State Farm. All in all, we're happy with them, we'll just switch agents.

Weakness:

AAA is incompetent, rude, and a rip off. They charge 16-18% interest per month if you don't pay the entire year balance. I didn't know that when I purchased over the phone. In April 2005, I was involved in a hit-and-run. My car was rear ended pretty badly. They didn't come out until 2 1/2 weeks after the accident. Their "inspector" missed a bunch of things - The other car had slid under my car and damaged more than just the muffler (that's all the inspector wrote down). The inspector didn't even open my trunk nor look under the car - I have a 4 wheel drive. I called to complain - first about the waiting period and then about the inspector. My agent lied and said she called me back right away - five days doesn't count as right away. When I called her boss, he said he believed his employee over me. What about the customer is always right! Plus, they don't have online bill pay. How stupid and out of touch!

AAA California Insurance was more expensive, but since I liked their towing service so much and already had a homeowner insurance with them, I thought the extra $50 would be worth it. I was wrong.

Strength:

You are welcome when enroll to the insurance.

Weakness:

The local office doesn't deal with claims.

We have auto insurance with AAA, we got involved in an accident in Feb.It was a hit and run, and we are not on fault. In May we were told that we have to pay for the rental car even AAA is the one that delayed the claim for months and should be responsible for.We called many times tring to negotiate the settlement, they are not responsive and so far there is no solution offered. It becomes our routine to call AAA everyday and we will keep doing so, until finally there is someone with conscious and professionalism willing to deal with our case and recover our loss financially and mentally.
