I want to say I really like their service. I appreciate very low rate for the service that insurance company give to me. I had 2 accidents and all not my fault, but my rate is not keeping raising as with other companies. Check out this reviews on my site http://www.insurintelligence.com In the category auto insurance I describe my experience with with this auto insurance company.

Never buy mercury insurance. I was actually insured by them. last month, i was hit by a lady (insured by statefarm) in a parking lot. she admitted that was her fault. so I called my insurance and hoped everything would be all right. It happened on friday, they told me they wouldnt call me back till monday. so i asked them what i should do with my car, and they gave out no detail what i should do, instead they told me i need to pay the deductable first. on monday, the adjuster finally called me. with no help from her (she even told me to contact the lady who hit me all by myself). so with no choice, I called that lady and told her that she should file her claim. right after that afternoon, statefarm called me and told me everything would be took care of. So the whole time, without my own insurace help, i was doing all their job they should of doing. The funniest joke was my adjuster called me a week after and said i should cancelled my claim so she could deal with other cases (that she never did anything to my case I am sure she didnt do anything with others.) NEVER buy Mercury insurance.

Most people know that the most of the time people write review is because they are unhappy with someone. If a company does something great you'll tell one person if they do something wrong you'll tell ten people. My theory is proven by the reviews posted on this page.
I'm going to go outside the norm and tell you that Mercury is a great company. The price is right, the people are knowledgeable and their claims department is fair and diligent. I was in a not at fault accident last month and they settled my claim with the other company quickly and I had my car fixed within a week. It was a great experience.

Strength:

they care about people, business, community, and legal regulations. They are extremely Fair!

Weakness:

None. I will never leave Mercury Insurance. I am a customer for life!

I find all of your comments very interesting. I have worked in the insurance industry for over three years and it seems that no one is happy with any insurance carrier. From reading many of your reviews I think I may know the solution.

Firstly, insured’s choose their own coverage’s. So if you only have $10,000.00 for property damage coverage, and you cause $20,000.00 in damages, then you will directly be responsible for the amount in excess of your limits. This is basic knowledge that is directly tied to what coverage’s you have selected to pay for.

Secondly, I have seen a few comments about cancelled and expired policies. This again is YOUR responsibility. All insurance companies fall under the same regulations. All companies will send a bill, a notice of cancellation or expiration if no payment is received, and a third notice will go out if the policy does cancel or expire. Again, what more could you ask for? Why is three notices not enough? If you have a change in address, you need to notify the insurance carrier of that change.

I personally have had insurance with Safeco, Wawanesa, State Farm and AAA. I chose Mercury for their EXCELLENT service and price. I am a very educated person. Consumers need to take responsibility for their errors. I do understand that mistakes happen, but with Mercury, they are rare. In addition, Mercury completes an investigation for each cancelled and expired policy with an auto accident to ensure it was not a Mercury error.

PEOPLE, PLEASE, think! It’s not Mercury, IT’S YOU!

Don't even bother with Farmer's. You should look and see how many fines they have paid from the California Department of Insurance.

I have mercury insurance, so of course i told my daughter to get the same. Boy was that a mistake. She got in an accident in May 2007, accident was not her fault. And to this date Sept 2007, has not received a thing. What Service!!! It's CRAP. She then was hit by another vehicle in June 2007, nothing on that. I of course saw that and went back to AAA insurance. I probably should have never left. I would not recomend Mercury Insurance.

I thought Mercury was great and affordable until they cancelled my policy WITHOUT NOTIFYING ME! I have been uninsured for 4 months without knowing because neither AIS or Mercury contacted me. I have been with them for 7 years and have a perfect record. I was on AutoPay so it took me a while to catch it. This should be totally illegal!

My brother has Mercury insurance, i'm listed as an additional driver under his insurance. i'm about to get my own insurance b/c i'm getting a car. Because of your comments i will definitely NOT GIVE MY MONEY$$$$$ TO MERCURY INSURANCE !!. I will also pass the word around about this insurance to friends, coworkers, family and etc. If we all express our opinions, it makes a difference. look what i found on their web site -->http://www.mercury.org/PROJECT/History.htm
"What's in store for Mercury in the next 40 years? Mr. Joseph envisions "a $20 billion company in 30 states." Notes Gretchen, "He hasn't been wrong very many times." Like i said, expressions' matter and where we put our money matters. We are giving them the business but if they are not providing the service then we need to take our money some where else. Their growth can go down the slope if we are aware of their lack of help. If you know any insurance company that provides good service let me know so i can take money where it's worth.

****MOST UNETHICAL COMPANY****
**ROGUE FIRM**
A Mercury Insured person hit my car, and CHP determined it was his fault in Police Report. Mercury put up every stall tatic in book - switched Adjusters, never answered phone or returned calls, claim lost my information or didn't receive, asked repeated questions on info they already had (i.e. your VIN #, then 2 weeks later, whose your Insurance Co. again?, then back to what's your VIN# again?), sent my info to a different address, and so on. BEWARE: IF SOMEONE W/ MERCURY HITS YOU AND IT'S THEIR FAULT, EXPECT TO GO TO SMALL CLAIMS COURT TO RESOLVE IT. Mercury will play hard ball and will do anything illegal to ignore you. They have a BAD REPUTATION. Even lawyers said, "Oh, if it's Mercury, then we don't want to take the case. They'll lie, postpone case repeatidly, and outright cheat." Claims Adjuster was the most corrupt, crooked, brazen, rude, dirty person ever. Hell awaits if you have to deal with Mercury.

very cheap, all bark no bite, good in tricking clueless people like me, ability to fill someone with troubles, upsets people.

Weakness:

the ability to "cover" the insured.

July 8 2006, i was driving and making a U-turn in a laneless parking lot and i have to take the most right side to open the other lane for incoming cars. doing so, my car slipped to the right and i hit a parked pick up truck from the back since the truck was long.

now the truck i hit moved and hit the car beside it and made scratches and dents on it.. to think about it, it shouldnt go up to $10,000 worth of damage including the rental cars for these 2 cars which are both drivable.

and now mercury has been sending letters and calling me that i may caused damage at over $10,000 and telling me to pay for the rest of damage i made if it goes over $10k. all they tell me is they have the right to sue or i have to pay out from my pocket. this is a joke..

i called them when i had an accident and all they are only worried about is how bad the damage were and also i learned that i dont have rental coverage and tow coverage. now i have to pay $400 a week for my rental car.

right now im trying to talk to the pick up truck owner and he's saying that im not carrying enough insurance. when i heard about this.. i just wanna ask him what did my insurance tell him..

i called the adjuster and the whole time she just threathened me that they will only pay $10,000 and they will sue me as they wish and they probably told him to sue me or something and refused to pay the guy i hit.. scamming pigs.

right now im just waiting for everything to be done.. last thing i heard the guy whom i hit was paying for the damage i've done to him..

this insurance is a scam.. best value but not very reliable. im switching after my premium ends.

reply to me: snowboy_james@yahoo.com

if anyone still has this insurance.. please its not worth it.. your throwing away your monthly premium. this insurance is rated 10... out of 10000

Were do I start.
They lie, they steal, they are rude and deceptive.
How can they "legally" operate even after multiple claims against them.

In Florida the Office of Insurance Regulation released the following statement (Must Read !!!)
"The Office issued a consent order that requires the company to pay over $2 million in refunds to policyholders for engaging in improper claims settlements and charging rates not approved by the Office."

I could go on and on but by now you get the picture.

Without a doubt this is the worst insurance company ever. What a bunch of thieves and scumbags. Unfortunately I was hit by a lady who had Mercury Insurance as her Auto Insurance. She was clearly at fault and declared this to both Mercury and Progressive (my insurance). It took more than a week after I filed a claim to get the adjuster to reluctantly take a look at the damage. After a bunch of haggling with my auto shop the guy Approved repairs and a car rental through Enterprise (the company has a deal with them). It's been more than a month and the mechanic hasn't been paid and enterprise has begun calling me demanding payment even though the car rental was approved and the clerk in Enterprise actually spoke with a supervisor (Mike Schmidt) and was given verbal approval. The supervisor gave some lame excuse as to why he couldn't make an online approval (a requirement for Enterprise to bill Mercury) and basically I was left stranded with both the auto bill and the car rental. The auto shop refuses to release my car because of lack of payment and every time I actually get to speak to the Claims Adjuster - Michael Paul, he gives some lame excuse that the claim is in process but that they acknowledge fault and will pay promptly.

Needless to say this b.s excuse (or some variation of it) has been used for over three weeks now and nothing has been done. These clowns never return ANY of my phone calls and I have to play tricks to actually get on the phone with them. (They must have caller ID because the only way to get in touch with the claims adjuster is to use a different phone every time).

This story is not over since I still haven't resolved the issue but I have contacted several gov't agencies to make a complaint and I am in the process of filing a lawsuit. Stay tuned....
