Strength:
I am no longer insured by Nationwide
Weakness:
Customer service is horrible. You don't get a policy you think you are paying for. My wife was in an accident and hit from behind. When the other driver's insurance company called mine they told them it was our fault. Nationwide did not even argue. I think that it was a case of you scatch my back and I'll scatch yours. To make matters worse my wife was injured from the wreck and her back was in bad shape. She went to regular visits to the doctor and was being treated for savere back pain. Nationwide informed us that they would pay for the treatments. When it came time to pay they said they would not cover any of it. Then they had the nerve to tell me that a back injury should not last six months and they are not going to pay without a second opinion. I strongly recommend that you try a different insurance company. Nationwide might have the cheapest rates but you get what you pay for. Similar Products Used: Progressive- So far so good. My monthly payments are good compared to the service I am provided. |

Strength:
-Price has been great on all policies.
Weakness:
-Knock on wood - Can't think of any weaknesses (All insurance is too high, until you need it.) Highly recommend anyone check out NWI. Husband totalled 3 day old recreational toy; NWI replaced immediately. Husband totalled two month old loaded Suburban, had injuries, NWI paid all medical and replaced Suburban with no hassles. I check each time my home and auto policies come due to find suitable coverage at lower rate, and for past 15 years can't beat it. Home coverage is the same, no hassle, great price, easy 24 hr a day 800#. Have my own policy now for past six years, two cars, truck and home. They are still the best I can find. Am sure I am getting discounts for tenure as well as multi-vehicle, but NWI has served me extremely well. Suggest everyone give them call. Similar Products Used: Have had NWI for 15+ years, can't really compare to others. |

Customer service is the worst. Wife and I recently purchase our new home. We called Nationwide insurance for a quote on homeowners insurance. They never returned our calls. We decided then to switch to Horace Mann insurance since they gave us a great deal on our home and auto insurance. Similar Products Used: Changed to Horace Mann Insurance. Working out very well. |

Strength:
good customer service
Weakness:
rates have gone up each year After reading some of the other summaries I realized that my rates too have gone up. They have gone up a little each year but I didnt think much of it. Even though we havent had any tickets or other factors that would have made the rates increase. On the plus side I have always dealt with really great Nationwide Representatives. At least in the office in Columbia Maryland. They have always been very helpful and curtious. |

Strength:
Paid my claim quickly, but raised my rates substantially though the accident wasn't my fault. 3 hours of screaming on the phone later, I got my rates back to where they were prior to the accident. That was six years ago.
Weakness:
Cost! I used to think they were great, but my rates have gone up over the past two years. My renewal is $89 more that it was two years ago and both my car and I are two years older. I got my renewal form last week and was surprised to see that it was $523 for six months. Two years ago, it was $434. I got ticked off and called them only to hear that they have raised rates three times in Oregon during the past year. Those are some rate increases I tell ya. I called Progressive and got a quote of $392 for the exact same coverage. Guess what I did! |

The one claim that I filed was processed quickly and efficiently..they've been around...
Weakness:
Customer service lacking big-time...I had been with Nationwide for over 12 years. Last year, I moved from Delaware to Minnesota. I gave the local agent my change information before I moved...I called them when my renewal notice didn't show 2 weeks before expiration. They couldn't find my policy at all. Turns out the policy had been transferred to Michigan, not Minnesota!! I called the agent's reprensentative 5 times to clarify that all had been taken care of. It hadn't been despite their claims, then the rep. I talked to was out with surgery...Would have been nice to be transferred to someone else who was actually in the office..then I had to pay the difference on the policy less than a month after paying the premium...I lived paycheck to paycheck and they couldn't give me any leeway at all. It finally got resolved when I threatened to tell her boss, of whom I was an acquaintance... I also called once b/c thought I'd lost my ID card...they updated my basic information and sent me a bill two weeks later for $20 b/c that info bumped my premium up because I only drove 3.1 miles/1-way to work....that was the final straw In Minnesota, I paid $1080 annually for $500 deductible...obviously it's more in NY...Nationwide quoted me $2250/yr..GEICO was $1780 for same coverage...I'm 28, single with no accidents...Only claim was cracked windshield...My dad got me started with Nationwide and the rates consistently went up... Similar Products Used: GEICO--just started because I recently moved to NY from Minnesota...the price was about $500 cheaper annually...will have to see on customer service...have heard good things about GEICO from brother-in-law and friend |

Since I have gone through this nightmare I have told my wife to drive as though we have NO insurance. After 20 years with Nationwide, I received a letter stating that they were happy to have done business with me, but I was being "non-renewed". The reasoning for this was that I alledgedly had no license in 1999, though what I had was an out-of-state license. In response Nationwide "allowed" me to stay with them at a small increase in rate. From $1100 (for 3 cars and 3 drivers) to $2292 (for 2 cars and 2 drivers). The problem hera is that I had discussed the tickets received in 1999 (Speeding/Out Of State License/No Seatbelt) with their underwriter who assured me that the violations weren't going to significantly affect my insurance rates. This conversation took place 6 months after the tickets, and prior to my policy renewal. They were completely aware of the tickets, had my driving record and all on record, and two years later send me through a month of #3ll to get insurance. Remember the "ex post facto" clause in the Constitution, well the Commonwealth of Virginia doesn't let little things like that get in the way of insurance businesses. Similar Products Used: Anyone who sells insurance, I know a guy down on the corner who will also sell you an inspection sticker with your insurance policy. |
