Customer Service and "bait and switch" tactics.

If you are looking for the cheapest, FOX Rent A Car may well be the place, but do not expect any customer service and watch for the "bait and switch". We picked up our car in San Diego and there was minimal problems. The car we reserved was not available and we ended up with a larger model. The problem was with the disclosure about the gas at the rental counter, and what actually happened when the car was returned.
The agent advised us they would fill up the vehicle for $3.59 when we returned it, if we signed up for it. We agreed since we had seen the local stations at $3.74. HOWEVER, when we turned in the vehicle, what they ACTUALLY meant was: we will charge you for a full tank of gas at $3.59, regardless of how much is needed to fill the tank. We turned the vehicle in with 1/2 tank of gas, so this was no deal. The check-in agent was quick to tell us that he would take the previous agreement off and only charge us for the gas that was needed to fill the tank - - - -at $5.59 a gallon. Of course we had the option to take the vehicle and fill it up, but we failed to allow time to address the "bait and switch" tactics at the rental car company and could not take the chance on missing a flight.
A few days later, we received a survey request. We completed it and when asked if we wished to lodge a complaint, we did. No response. We contacted the FOX RAC customer service email and inquired about our complaint. They asked what it was about and when we replied.......you guessed it - no response. It has now been 3 weeks and we've had no response to our complaint. Totally unprofessional, especially since they refuse to even respond to my inquiries.

Rent vehicles 30 - 40 days a year. Have never had a problem in over 20 years until this experience.

Worst car rental service ever. I usually dont write reviews but this company flat out stinks. They did not have the car we reserved then gave us a dodge challenger which was supposedly free upgrade. NOT TRUE. we received the car on 1/4 tank of gas they told us if we prepaid it would be cheaper which we did. When we returned the car the agent told me it was only 3/4 full so we would have to pay $35.00. He did not want to give us credit on the prepaid fuel cost. My wife went out with him to show him that it was full never being disrespectful, he told her "Im not going to sweat it". Then proceeded to put down on the paperwork tank is 7/8 full. We still had to pay $12.00, its not the money its the lack of professionalism and courtesy. I think they do not know fractions at this place. I would never use them again like the other reviewers say just go to the big name rentals. Save yourself the headache you wont save money using FOX rental. At least at the other car rentals you know what your getting they dont try to sneak the extra cost in.

Worse car rental experience ever. Fort Lauderdale site tries to scam you into upgrades, doesn't provide the cars you reserve. I could hear customers with similar complaints ahead of me on line. Poor customer service....customer pays for employee's mistakes. Avoid at all costs and just spend the extra few dollars at a respected company.

Poor, Poor, Poor customer service ... deceitful, and felt as if we were held hostage

Today June 2012, I am here to tell you "Avoid FOX Rental".... My husband and I thought we would give them a shot, we were drawn in by their low prices. The price they quote is only an estimate. Period. They are not required to give you that low price, and they don't. Poor customer service, poor customer service... did I mention, poor customer service? In addition to the poor customer service, I have an american express card, which has a rental car insurance policy on it - if anything happens to the rental, amex takes car of it. Fox informed me that they will not honor that, but they will hold me personally responsible and charge me 129 dollars a day (for a car that I am been quoted the rate of 39 a day).. if anything is wrong with the car until they are able to get it fixed. Something doesn't seem right with this company, and I hope that someone alot smarter them me files a class action lawsuit disputing their business practices.

bottom line--spend a few $ at the onset with a more standard company & thus avoid hassles and ultimately higher costs with Fox. The contract price was low & good, but I arrived 3 hours earlier. Understandably they charged for the extra time--that's fair, but wanted to add $10 penalty for showing up early plus an upgrade charge because they had no cars of my class, then on return I was two (yes, 2) minutes late at the checkout desk because of the line bringing in cars and they wanted to charge $12 additional. Go with Budget, Dollar, Alamo all the others if you want to be treated like a human and avoid the fleabag companies--this applies to other traveler services as well. Most importantly, those companies are consistent--a Fox experience may be good once, but it's a lottery--not what you want upon arrival. It's not a case of getting what you pay for but paying and then paying again.

I found no strengths for Fox Car Rental

The clerk at the desk in the airport would not even get up to talk to us. She was too busy reading her magazine! We waited 20 minutes at the airport before calling the toll free number. The message said that their shuttles run every 10 minutes! That is a joke.We waited another 20 minutes before the shuttle came. At the rental desk we were told that instead of the $702 that we had been told was a firm price, it was now $902. After hearing about our wait at the airport they said that they would discount it by 5%. We finally got our car and as soon as we left the lot a warning came on about the right blinker. so we had to return to the lot. They got another vehicle and it had a cracked windshield! So we waitied again and finally got our vehicle...we had landed 1 1/2 hours before and still had a 3 hour drive ahead of us Because of the delays they said they would discount it another 5% when we returned it. Upon returning it guess what? They said that they had already discounted it. After much discussion they said they would discount it and it will show up on our credit card. I am not expecting it! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!

Counter clerk was rude. When I arrived they had no full size car that I order . Was treated like a piece of garbage. Was given a Chevy Cruiz which was a sub compact car and paid full price as a full size. Was told take it or leave it. This was on a Thursday night at 11:00 PM. Where was I going to at that time? Had no choice but to take it. Called customer service when I got back to my home state and was given to a clerk who didn't even answer her phone. I have used Budget for many years and have never had this much trouble and Budget is my corporate account. Decide to try another company what a mistake? Overcharged, treated like garbage rude clerks. Just horrible service. If Budget didn't have a car I order they would have upgraded me for the same price, not down grade me and tell me that it was a full size car I was getting. Must of that I was an old blonde dumb lady and I wouldn't of known the difference. ALL CORPORATE COMPANIES DO NOT USE THIS SUBSTANDARD COMPANY THE STINK.

AVOID AT ALL COST - A SUBSTANDARD COMPANY WITH HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND PERSONEL

Horrible service. I went to Phoenix for a medical residency interview at one of the large hospitals, and was gouged at a rate of 60 dollars per day for the three days. Then when I returned the car, they noticed a 1.5 inch scratch on the back bumper. Today I just received a claim for 756 DOLLARS for the price to fix it. It would have taken a total of 5 dollars to buy the matching paint and fix it or to buy nail polish remover to smudge out the paint transfer. Absolutely ridiculous. I would never recommend FOX to anyone. I may be young blond female but I am NOT some idiot who is going to take this lying down.
