Customer service, quality of the cars, maintenance

But basically, what hapened is...

In february 2011, I rented a time bomb from Thrifty Car Rentals. I thought I was renting a car, that was what I booked, but Thrifty fooled me. After the first 200 kilometers the car started to fail, and my wife and I had a tough time for 15 days!

I was with my wife in Portugal and decided to rent a car with Thrifty to go to Spain. Our road trip started on a cold rainy day of winter, and the first thing to fail was the air conditioning. Have you tried to drive a car when it's cold outside without air conditioning? Well, the windshield gets dangerously foggy, and the only way to fix this is by opening the window. Thank god I was in Spain and not in Canada. It was "only" 9ºC (48º F) outside. Blood doesn't freeze at this temperature.

But that was only the begining...

The next day I noticed that one of the tires was flat, so I filled it up. But that tire was actually loosing air, permanently and gradually, so I had to do that everyday for two weeks. And the reason is because Thrifty doesn't offer assistance to their clients in Spain, even though I was only 200 kilometers away from their closest agency.They didn't offer (or accepted, after I asked) to send me a replacement car. Instead, they told me I should fix their vehicle myself!

When I finally got back to Lisbon and expressed my discontent, they didn't care much, and just offered a miserable 20% discount, as a deal to get rid of me. The amount would be refunded directly to my credit card account.

And that's when I was fooled again. I should have known they would never reimburse me. They were only trying to get rid of a complaining client before another sucker came in to burn his money away with them.

But I was still hopeful, trusting on the company and thinking that was an isolated problem when, one month Iater, I sent an e-mail through their website, at
Thrifty.com explaining what hapened. Few days later they confirmed my fear when I read their answer saying that was not their problem and I should deal straight with their agency at Lisbon. As if Thrifty Portugal, at Lisbon, was not really Thrifty.

It's really disapointing. I recomend this company to be a (bad) case of study for business schools around the world.

This company is the WORST. AVOID at all costs. Wish we had checked reviews prior to our rental. Unethical and intentionally deceitful."Customer Service" is joke and anything but that.

Very similar to earlier review from Phoenix rental for use in Sedona. End of November rental at the airport. Told counter clerk, NO, we did NOT want the additional insurance. Directed to mark certain boxes on contract, when returned our fee was $200 plus more, because we had OK'd the "Waiver" for additional coverage, which in their translation is a nonwaiver. After complaining,and talking to several very nasty "customer service" people, we were told, we OK'd the contract and got the coverage and there was nothing they could do. Asked for info to contact someone higher up and was told they were in that position and that there was nothing to do. They had no interest in looking into how the clerks were doing their jobs and I believe, intentionally train their people to be misleading and take advantage of their rental customers. Something should be done to let the public know of how bad this company treats people and a way found to hold them accountable for cheating people.

This was the WORST experience I ever had with a rental. First, I paid extra of the GPS and it was old and out dated. It got me lost several times. I even got lost on the way to the airport. I asked them to credit my charges back for the GPS and they did but I had to get her to correct it twice. I still do not think my bill is right; I plan to call on Monday. I spend most of my gas on stopping and asking questions for directions because I was LOST. I got the rental from San Antonio, Tx on Crown hill road and car return on 1/23/11.

OMG the lady on duty at the desk. did not even say, I am sorry. She acted really NASTY. I will search every engine on the web to write this review. It was simply CRAZY!!

We had a Thrifty car for a week in the Tampa Bay, FL area. From start to finish, it was a great experience dealing with them. We did have a minor issue that arose upon return, but their customer care representative responded quickly and rectified it immediately. Rates were great and service outstanding!

the thrift location for the philadelphia airport is actually no where near the airport. you need to add an hour to your commute or miss your plan.

The Thrify counter person in Phoenix, AZ gave us a hard sell when we checked in.
We did not want the additional insurance but he would not accept no. He tried scare tactics speculating the car's tires would be damaged due to glass & rocks from the roads in Sedona. He continued to badger us regarding the gas, he would not accept our choice to bring the car back with a full tank of gas. We are 80 years old and we felt he tried to manipulate us due to our age. We thought we had chosen a reputable company but will never choose Thrifty again.

Avoid Thrifty car rental.

I did NOT want any additional insurance and special services. Client service asked 3 times. I said "no" 3 times. The woman said sign here, initial here. I did (my mistake, witout reading). She had signed me up for everything. This company cheats!!!!!!!!!!! Read everything, even if their is a crowd behind you, be sure not to trust this company.

BEWARE of the liability waiver.

BEWARE of the liability waiver. it added an additional $150.00 to my payment. I was quoted around $359.00 and paid $656 which included the price of gas. I made the assumption I was waving their insurance and using my auto insurance. That’s what I get for assuming!
