Model Reviewed: Clutch Masters FX100 (Stage I) Clutch

Strength:

None.

Weakness:

Does not function - destructive to other parts.

I purchased the clutch to replace my stock one. The package did not contain all the parts indicated (missing screws). I had a professional mechanic install the clutch. I was concerned about the rough shifting and had the head mechanic take my car for a drive. He thought it needed to break in. Two more trips back to him since then and he has determined that the clutch is defective. It's not been 90 days, but Clutch Masters is not honoring its warranty and is being evasive. The part is defective and not usable. My flywheel was re-surfaced at the installation and is now battered. I will probably have to buy a new clutch (from another source) and re-surface the flywheel. A costly lesson. Avoid Clutch Masters products.

Strength:

Super fast engagement. 70% stronger than stock. Lightweight flywheel perfect compliment to clutch. Pedal feels almost the same as stock.

Weakness:

None. Would not go back to stock.

My clutch was on it's last legs, so I decided to upgrade to a Clutchmasters Stage 1 Street Clutch w/ Lightweight Aluminum Flywheel. This combo is fantastic! I paid around $620 for the clutch kit and the flywheel. The clutch engages super fast and strong. And coupled with the flywheel, my engine revs way faster than before. And after I put on the usual intake/headers/cat-back exhaust, the engine revs even easier and quicker! The great thing about this clutch/flywheel kit is that it comes with a new throwout bearing that doesn't really alter the feel of the pedal at all. Although there is less pedal travel to engagement, the pedal pressure is only slightly stiffer than stock. I would highly recommend this product to anyone with standard bolt-on mods. It does take some getting used to when driving in traffic, but you just have to learn how to finesse the pedals.

Strength:

better feel. solid engagement.

Weakness:

longer travel-fixed by adjusting clutch line
feels a bit light-although its personal preference

my oem clutch was getting old so i decided to go aftermarket. hey, why not. my car doesn't have alot of power but i figured a good clutch would last longer and eliminate a bit of drive-line loss. so far it works well and wasn't as "rough" as i expected. the engagement is a little more pronounced... you can feel it engage more so than with the stock clutch. it's not any harsher in stop-n-go traffic. i wouldn't know about the difficulty of replacement because i had a mechanic do the install. so far its been about half a year and the clutch still feels like the day ive gotten it... so the wear has been great despite me beating it. i expect it to last for the life of the car. by the way, getting this weak car to chirp 3rd gear is really cool!
