AEM Air Bypass Valve Intakes/Filters

AEM Air Bypass Valve Intakes/Filters

DESCRIPTION

AEM's Air Bypass valve for Cold Air Induction Systems totally eliminates the unlikely chance of water ingestion should the filter element become wet from deep puddles, rain, hail, sleet or snow-or any other scenario in which the filter element could encounter or become submerged in water.

The idea that the loss of 1 hp is not worth thousands of dollars in repairs.

I just wanted to say that of course no one is dumb enough to drive thru deep water. However, I live in FL and it rains alot--I turned down a road I wasn't familiar with and before I could avoid it I had driven my teg thru about a foot and a half of water--result instant hydrolock and a few grand worth of engine repairs. I am always careful of where I drive, but sometimes sh*t happens. Now, I wish I had spent $40 bucks to save my ride.

Glue between the two pieces.

I have had this product for about nine months. I cannot comment on the power issue due to the fact that the CAI was the first product I put on my car. At the time I wouldn't have known power if it had bit me. However this piece has turned out to be just that, a piece. Everyone that I has spoken to about this intake says that it has fallen apart. One of my friends had it on a 98 Integra with a couple of other bolt ons. When he tried to return it he was told that his car had too much torque. With the two pieces of the valve sitting apart with the foam covering them it seams to me that not that much cold out side air would make it into the intake manifold. And so in my opinion this product should never be used by anyone.

I have now placed a silicone hose in the place where the valve was. It appears to work better at just sitting there

Just another way a company found to make money, by feeding off of peoples insecure paranoia and youthful stupidity

The AEM cold air intake is an awesome intake. This product is only being brought to the market because of all those individuals who can''t utilize common sense. Anything deep enough to hydro lock your vehicle with this intake will hydro lock your car with the stock air equipment. On hondas air is taken from the same place on the stock, as the cold air intake takes its air from. The bypass valve requires cutting the intake in two thus decreasing the flow rate because the tubes smooth surface has been marred. So now by installing your intake which was good for 5 horses plus the extra three horses due to the reduction in wieght when you remove all of the air component, then install the bypass valve, is reduced by 2-3 horses. Is it worth it? if your judgement is impaired and you drive through puddles deep enough to hydro lock you car, you should never have bought the intake because you just wasted your money on the intake and the bypass valve, and you deserve to have you car hydro locked. For anyone else considering this item don''t buy it, the biggest waste of $36.00-51.00

Strength:

Will keep engine from stalling when filter is fully submerged in water. May reduce the amount of crank case oil from entering engine through the TB. For those people who like a little extra noise, this will do the trick when placed close to your TB.

Weakness:

Product is unusable if placed behind AFM (on cars so equipped). Will allow pollutants to vent into the atmosphere from the crank case at idle and thus becomes "smog-illegal"

First off, the only benefit to this product when it comes to water is that it will keep your engine from stalling if you become submerged. How many people drive underwater? If you have an external mount filter, how often are you in a puddle even 1'' deep? Secondly, having water in your engine happens to be a good thing. Now, I am not suggesting anyone pour a few quarts of O2 into their intake. However, water DOES reduce intake temperatures. It DOES reduce the risk of ping/detonation in high RPM and/or Boost levels. It does remove carbon build upon valves and pistons. The most ideal way to "add" water to your intake is though via a water injection system like Earls. But my point here is that a few drops, splashes or even a cup is not going to hurt you in the slightest. Thus this is a waste of money.

Peace of mind (It''s sort of like buying stainless steel...you don''t NEED it, but you don''t want things to rust away)

Weakness:

I miss the deep throaty sound =(

Well, fortunately I didn''t have to cut my cold air intake to put the valve on (I just bought the cold-air extension). It''s given me a nice peace of mind to know I won''t have to buy a new engine because of some winter snow being sucked up!

Loss of sound, a loss of performance(only like 1hp according to an article on AEMs website)

It''s nice to know that this will help more in the fall/winter months when it rains. Like everyone else said, it sux cuttin the pipe but it had to be done. I read that you can buy an extra boot to put over the cut when you dont want to use the bypass valve. i think it brings back the performance...and hopefully the deep throaty sound.

Where did my power go??? I lost a little of that growling hummm as well as the power increase i had originally

"You mean I have to cut my brand new intake in two? are you joking me???" were the first things out of my mouth... so I installed my intake first and drove with it a few months before installing the bypass. I got up the currage to install the bypass a few days ago and while I do feel much better about driving in wet or even moist conditions I miss the power that I had before I cut the pipe.
