Weakness:

Oil seems to mess with some MAF sensors

I did not apply oil to my K N filter before I put it in my subaru. I have driven for about 10000 miles this way with now problems. I recently realized I had forgotten to oil it so I bought the kit and cleaned and oiled it. I read that too much oil has been (theoretically) causing problems with the MAF sensors of some vehicles. I was carefull in applying only the smallest amount I could, by my judgement. I installed the filter and after driving a few miles, my cars started hesitating and dying. My light came on so I read the code saying it was the MAF sensor. I can only relate the problem to the oil in the air filter because of the time correlation. Guess it could be a huge coincidence, but I doubt it. Goin to use MAF sensor cleaner and see if that fixes the problem.

Weakness:

Causes oil to seep in and onto the MAF sensor and causes a decrease in gas mileage and shifting problems.

It was almost immediate, when I noticed that my car decreased in gas mileage (23 to 16 miles per gallon). About 6 months after installing the air filter, my car began to hesitate when shifting gears. I had 3 transmission specialists look at it and their response was that the transmission was going out. I had gone to Auto Zone about a year after installing the air filter and had a diagnostic test performed and it came back as a P0101. Come to find out, the oil from the K&N air filter had came off and covered my Mass Air Flow Sensor which had caused all the problems in which my car was experiencing. I find this out, however, after I paid to have a new Mass Air Flow Sensor installed and wiring. The technician explained to me that the signal circuit wire that runs from the computer to the MAF sensor was fluctuating and not keeping the 5 volts. This is what prompted them into replacing the MAF sensor and wiring. I paid over $300 bucks for this and come to find out, all I needed to do was clean off the MAF sensor because the oil had covered it up and was causing the computer to think that the car wasn't receiving the efficient amount of air flow. I purchased a Fram air filter and cleaned off the MAF sensor and now my car runs fine! I have nothing good to say about this K&N air filter and I wouldn't advice anybody else to waste their money!

Terrible product! My car ran bad for a week, and I had to take the filter out. Not only did the car feel like it was going to stall but the exhaust stunk like rotten eggs. The filter obviously let too much air in and ruined the air fuel mixture to the point where my car was running rich. I wish I never bought it. I hope my car is not damaged.

Noticed a little more HP but gas mileage decreased. Two weeks after installing the K&N filter, my "check engine" light came on. I brought the car to a Hyundai dealership and was told that the rings on my fuel injectors went bad as a result of the filter. The mechanic said that the filter allows more air but the fuel intake remains the same and the engine can not balance the increase in air with the fuel intake. He said his truck did the same thing after installing this filter. I also noticed that my RPMs rev higher when accelerating and then bounce back down after a short time. Will put a stock filter back in.

rev faster, easier & smoother to the redline; little better on fuel consumption!

Weakness:

Loss some low-end torque (around 1000-2000)

Great on acceleration! Your can feel the rev run faster to the redline than before. I can't say there is a huge difference on fuel consumption, but I can see there is a little better mileage with this filter, especially I go onto the highway everyday. (I was averaging 9.3-9.8L/100KM with stock, now I'm averaging 9.0-9.7L/100KM) Loss some torque at very low RPM (around 1000-2000). But for every Honda engine (Especially it's only 2.4L, for a 1500+kg vehicle!), you have to rev higher to get the car going, so this is not a big issue to me.

Strength:

Vehicle feels lighter.
High Acceleration.

Weakness:

Engine loses torque. frequent gear shifts when running at low speeds. Engine has to have sufficient amount of Rev for it to be able to run in 4th gear.filters far less dirt than OEM paper.
anyone wondered why Ferrari doesnt use aftermarket filters? yes you got it. they use only OEM paper filters. i slapped back on the OEM paper and in 2 days time I was able to clean out a handful of dust from the filter. driving conditions were subjected to street drive and not offroad.

engine idling felt rough and uneasy.
people dont get misguided by the vast amount of air that gets sucked in using the aftermarket filters.

your engines will go for a six. you may save couple of dollars on air filter replacements.

why don't you take into consideration the amount of dollars you will end up paying for engine damage. car manufacturer will not cover any insurance for usage of aftermarket filters.

Terrible for low speed drive.Excellent for high speed driving.
I purchased this filter for my car with the intention of getting good acceleration as well as good mileage. my findings were devastating.the gas needle was coming down much faster than the car could accelerate. my car used to have terrific amount of torque which enabled it to run at 20km/hr even on 4th gear. now i had to frequently shift down to 2nd gear to remain at 20kph.i replaced the K&N with the OEM paper filter and the torque kicked in once again.i just needed the torque to do the work for me.more acceleration + more engine Rev = lower gas mileage.

my suggestions is to throw in 4 tires from Pirelli/Michelin or any other brands and you get good road handling. the tires do a remarkable job on their own at achieving good acceleration and road handling and let the torque carry you. you get fantastic mileage with the OEM paper filter and new soft compound tires. Fill nitrogen in the tires and the pressure remains constant.

power, smooth acceleration throughout entire RPM band, gas economy, saves lots of time and money!

My current stock air filter was NOT even very old or dirty, however, as soon as I easily replaced it there was a very noticable and significant difference in the sound, performance, idle, and temperature of the engine! It is really qutie remarkable! For the cost of two stock air filters that MUST be replaced every 12,000 miles one could purchase a K and N filter; obviously paying for itself within 12,000-24,000 miles and has a MILLION MILE warranty! Basically, you are an idiot and a moron if you own a vehicle and it does NOT have a K&N filter. Pay an extra 20 bucks for your air filter next maintenence interveral of 12,000 miles. Duh...
NOTE: The performance increase is dramatic! It even sounds better! The gas mileage is also better, the engine runs much cooler, the engine is cleaner, more protected, and NO rough idle like before. --- Use Lucas fuel stabalizer every time you fill up for best results. For high mileage use Lucas OIL stabalizer! GREAT!! stuff!!

Terrible!!!!! fuel milage went from 21-23 to 15-17 I was very disapointed in this product. I guess I was suckered into believing that the fuel econemy and power would change. Oh it's great to get 3 extra hp at 4986 rpm. I guess if I red lined my truck more often this filter would have been of use to me. Last time I will ever buy a K&N anything

Placed a K&N filter on my 2002 Chevy Tahoe. I immediately noticed a smoother idle. Tahoe has 49,000 miles on the clock. I drove from San Diego to Prescott, Arizona and noticed a definite power increase and mpg......
