Strength:

Smooth, quick shifts. Gears spin more freely. Less friction

Weakness:

none

Red Line MTL is worth the 7.50/quart price. I put 2 quarts in my Civic transaxle in February of this year. The gears shift smoother with less effort, there is less resistance when rolling, and I'm probably getting a little better mileage. And during winter, the car doesn't struggle anymore when the gears are cold. I would recommend Red Line MTL to anyone who owns a front wheel drive car.

This stuff rules! My Honda Civic tranny was going notchy after only 9,000 miles, plus I was having problems getting it into reverse and having it stay there [was popping out]. Everyone seemed to think Red Line MTL was the way to go, so I tried it. As with the other reviewers, there was an IMMEDIATE difference. No more notchy shifts --- no more problems with reverse. Also, the linkage felt like I hosed it with BreakFree. Unbelievable!!!

Weakness:

Took me a long time to find it. I finally checked Loper's Speed Shop in Mesa, AZ, and they carry the entire Red Line product line. Sure, it costs $8.00/qt. but who cares? The Civic only takes 2 quarts. Still, Red Line isn't for cheapskates.

Red Line MTL makes your tranny shift better, run smoother, quiter and cooler, and last longer. If you don't care about these things, you won't like it. If you do, you will.

Strength:

Immediate improvement in shifting effort. Quieter operation. Lower temperature = longer tranny life

Weakness:

Price

I have been a firm believer in synthetic fluids for years. Red line has been my favorite. I used it exclusively in my two Mustangs, and it protects both diffs and transfer case in my Explorer today. (A little too pricey for an automatic tranny though when you consider it takes 13 quarts for a full fluid exchange) But for manual gearboxes you cant beat the stuff. You will notice an immediate improvement in shifting feel and effort. You'll miss fewer shifts if you drive agressively, and your tranny will probably outlast the rest of the vehicle due to the excellent wear protection and cold weather (or cold starts in general) performance of the product. Highly recommended for all vehicles, especially sports cars and vehicles driven in extreme (hot or cold) weather conditions.

Strength:

It is cheap versus what you get. My gears were feeling notchy and was often hard to get into first gear from a stop. Cold weather also had a little effect on it. Had to wait for it to warm up a bit. With redline mtl it's very easy to get into first gear now and it doesn't seem like I have to get my syncro's replaced easy shifting. Better yet, a lot less missed shifts.

Weakness:

It's not sold at the regular autoparts stores, other than that, haven't got any yet.

Paid $7.99/qt. I would definetly recommend it to anybody who is replacing their tranny fluid, and or is having trouble with their syncro's and likes to prolong their transmissions life and have easier shifts.

Strength:

I had a MR2 with a 1st gear that was hard to down shift. I changed to Mobil one and It was way to slippery. When I changed to the Redline 1st gear felt like it had a new syncro.

Weakness:

Takes a little time to fill the transaxle.

$7.99 QT. cheaper than putting new syncros, in a mid engine car

Similar Products Used:

Mobil one gear oil. Good for most applications I'm sure. But if you need a little more sticky to imrove that down shift get the redline.

I bought my '95 MR2 used from a lady who raced a couple of '94's. She said she ran Redline in the case of those cars on the track, never changed it, and never had a gearbox fail. Good enough for me.

I had cold shifting problems with this car. Shifting was notchy and difficult until the transmission oil warmed up, and yes, the level was full. so i drained out the sludge-like oil in the tramsmission, poured in Redline and the problem disappeared - that was 3 years ago. No problems now.
