Strength:

Swing away design
Mounts to receiver hitch
Antiwobble design

Weakness:

Heavy
Rubber straps are weak and difficult to latch

I bought this rack because I wanted to still have complete access to the back of my truck and I didn't want to have to mount bikes on top of my campershell. I love the way the bikes swing away completely. When the wing bolt is secured tightly, this rack is rock solid strong. I accidentally went airborne on a dirt road once. I expected the rack to be seriously bent from the jarring, but it held its shape just fine. One of the rubber straps on the BedROC cradle came loose but the bikes stayed on the rack. Nevertheless, I still wouldn't recommend doing any serious offroading with this rack in place.

Model Reviewed: Yakima TerraGate

Strength:

Looks nice. Great for smaller SUV's with the swing away arm.

Weakness:

Arm bends when bikes extended out. No way I'd upgrade to 4 bikes. Still not large enough to be free of my car (97 Yukon) with corral doors. Door hits bikes. Not good for paint.

I owned this rack for one week before having to return it. Looks great and is a great idea for a rack, but simply would not be stable on long term basis. The arm of the rack with simply the weight of two bikes weekend to the point that you could move the bikes in a circular motion in the back of the car. They would sway any direction. I'm glad I brought it back before the bikes came crashing through my window. Whe the arm was extended and the bikes swung to the side of my car you could see how weak the artm was because the bikes went down to a -20 degree angle almost touching the ground. (Not good) I'm waiting for a revision on this technology. As most people who ride bikes know, you start at trailheads which can sometimes be bumpy. This rack is not the answer. It will weaken and will eventually fall off your car.
