Goodyear Eagle GS-C Tires

Goodyear Eagle GS-C Tires

DESCRIPTION

The Eagle GS-C is Goodyear's most technically advanced tire. This tire gives you the ability to continue driving up to fifty miles even if your tire loses all air pressure. The asymmetric tread design puts larger tread blocks on the outside shoulder for improved handling on dry pavement.

Strength:

I ran these tires on my 1980 Porsche 911SC, replacing the really awful and noisy Pirelli P7 Cinturatos that were on it when I bought it. The GS-C was a revelation. Better stick, even at Willow Springs track day. Better and more even wear characteristics, rather than the odd carcass design of the P7 which seemingly raised the center portion of the tire so the edges wore faster, especially the rears. Moreover, they were very quiet and provided great road feel, maybe just a skosh less communicative compared to the P7 but overall it was flat superior. I wish these were still around.

Weakness:

I see that these tires are now discontinued, apparently, and replaced with a run-flat design. I ran Goodyear EMTs on my '04 Corvette and they wore terribly fast. I'd love to have those original GS-Cs again, they were probably the best tires I've ever run on any car I've owned (a "few").

Strength:

Excellent performance in daily use on mountain road - rain or shine. About 20k miles which is good for me - about the same as earlier Bridgestone RE71's and better than Goodrich Comp TA KDW. Also better handling even toward end of tread life than the KDWs which got touchy on handling.

Weakness:

No real weaknesses noted. Priced high, but not higher than other comparable tires.

Very good tire - wish it were still made in my sizes.

THESE TIRES ARE ONLY GOOD WHEN NEW.

Weakness:

Your weaknesses are in buying these tires. THEY AIN'T WORTH S@#%.

These are the tires that came with the car. At first they had good traction on dry roads and in the rain. But then they started wearing very quickly. After about a year they weren't any good. After that experience, I'LL NEVER BUY OR LOOK AT ANOTHER GOODYEAR TIRE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!

I replaced those tires with BF Goodrich G-Force KDW. Thank God for BF Goodrich. WHAT A DIFFERENCE.

Strength:

I have been driving for 30 years, and spent 17 of them driving for a living professionally. Over the years I have owned over a dozen vehicles and tried many tires.

GSC's are the BEST. The limits of adhesion come on gradually. Good at speeds over 100 mph. Very stable and predictable, excellent in wet. Actually get better the more they are used. Unlike old Gatorbacks which were good in dry but a horror in wet, these are derived from Formula One wets and handle well in truly torrential downpours as I found out on a one thousand mile trip last year...

These tires are able to handle a hi torque extremely stiffly sprung combination. They also hook up.

Weakness:

None. There are really no bad qualities, but these are HIGH PERFORMANCE tires. Not for the immature. You pay to play. Drive like a professional adult, (clean, fast and responsibly) Treat them well, without abuse, avoiding potholes, etc. and they will save your butt when you screw-up and serve you well when you are spot on.

Incredible that Goodyear is stopping production.

Excellent, am on my second pair and looking for a third pair as back ups.
(Besides, they were designed for Corvettes like mine!)
Autocrossers might want to try shaved Competition GSCs.

Goodyear should continue this line indefinitely with A and a B compounds, but alas all good things come to an end.

Similar Products Used:

Better than some un-named Euro and Asian brands, and GSCs last under REAL everyday, crappy US road conditions as well as REALLY hard and FAST runnin'.
They don't CHUNK at speed and if GOD FORBID, there is a CATASTROPHIC FAILURE, they are a solvent US based corporation and you will be able to sue if neccessary. (Ever try to sue a semi-bankrupt French, Italian, German, British, Chinese, Japanese or Korean Corporation? Try the UN first.

HA! HA!

These are great tires. I have the EMT version which are run-flats. They handle great, are pretty quiet and wear amazingly well. Of course, the traction control probably helps here! I actually like these tires better than the newer Eagle F1's on my '99 vette. The F1's seem to lack in dry handling in comparison.

Weakness:

The price is steep and I am constantly picking up nails and other debris! Why can't Goodyear use the tough technology it uses in the Truck tire MT/R to help avoid punctures???

I strongly recommend any Corvette C4 owner to stick with these tires as they were carefully selected and engineered specifically for them. If you have a Camaro/Firebird or something you may want to try them for an upgrade in handliing as they were offered for your car. If the price is too steep, try out the GT+4 or similiar. I run these on a Buick Grand NAtional and they are nice (255's rear/235's front).

Have used the BFG comparable but was not happy. Also run F1's on another vette.

Strength:

Good grip and handling. Predictable. Decent wear for a tire of this type. Look good, work quite well.

Weakness:

Price, being phased out soon. Newer technology replacing it.

$250CDN each.
Wear is normal for tires of this type. I have taken them to the track and flogged them hard with no chunking or overheating. YMMV of course.
They are however, getting a bit dated. There are newer tires with silica based tread which wear better and have better wet traction. GS-C's are still pretty good if you get them at the right price. Better than BFG ZR, Pirelli P700Z, Eagle VR, Bridgestone RE-71.

Good Looks,allright grip for acceleration

Weakness:

Terrible in rain, handling not responsive enough, wears out rather quickly.

I sometimes wonder why a company will charge so much money for a tire that is unable to deliver the performance it was intended for. GoodYear is a big company with a big budget for R & D and yet they are unable to build a high quality tire. I have seen the over all ratings for all Good Year tires on this site and they are all poor! What is wrong with this company that they are unable to build a ultra high quality tire? I think Good Year is so arrogant that they feel that being famous is enough to get people to buy their tires. There are so many other tires out there that are cheaper and deliver greater performance and last longer. I now have a set of BF Goodrich KDW and what a difference! I honestly wonder if Good Year goes to these product review sites and reads reports on their own products. If they don't then that is clearly a sign of disrespect to their customers. They need to know how disapointed their customers are so that they can build better quality tires. I wonder why Good Years come standard on so many new cars. I guess the automakers have some good deal set up with Good Year. I am willing to spend the big bucks on a tire, but that tire better deliver what I paid for otherwise I will be one very unhappy customer.

BFG KDW, a much better tire, you get more than what you paid for and such a joy to drive in the rain.

Strength:

Good in the dry, but thats all. Good looking tire.

Weakness:

Weak construction and poor tread wear and poor wet traction.

Not that great of a tire for the money. The other guy with the Corvette who posted that he loves these tires must have never experienced a high quality tire. I agree with the guy with the Stealth that these tires suck in the rain. If they suck for an AWD sports car, you can imagine how much worse it is for me with a RWD sports car! They wear out quickly and don't give the car the crisp feel that you expect from a performance tire. These tires are totally overpriced and I will never purchase a Good Year product ever again. I now got me a set of Kumho's and let me tell you, they are a much better tire and so much cheaper. They have a compound specially designed for the rain and in the dry they are sweet! And they can really take some abuse, unlike the Goodyears that bruised from I don't know what, which is why I had to get rid of them. Wake up Good Year and stop building crappy tires and charging big $$$ for them!

Strength:

Predictable, good wet handling when full tread. Take offs can be found for Camaros for $100 each new.

Weakness:

Wet handling when worn, need calibration of tire pressures to achieve maximum performance (40F, 32R on my Camaro). Kind of expensive new ($150 apiece)

Overall quite impressed. Very good predictable handling in the dry, and the tire will take a lot of abuse. My car can't get much negative camber but the outside edges aren't worn out too bad after 31k miles. Relatively quiet at the limit, predictable. Wet performance was excellent when new, is poor now that the tires are worn. Rotating every 5k miles helps keep wear even and greatly improves life. I find that the fronts require around 40 PSI in my car (32 rear) to get good crisp turn in and instantaneous handling. Most people who have poor experiences just haven't played with pressures enough.

Much less grip than my Kumho V700s, but those are road race tires...
