Traction, Wet and Dry

Weakness:

Tread Wear

These are the best tires I have ever owned. They have better traction in the wet than my last set did dry. They ride very smooth and are very quit for the type of tire that they are. They corner great and stick like glue. I would highly recomend them. I paid $81 a piece at the tire Rack for 195/60 HR15s. I couldn't be happier.

All the following were tested on my new (used) 1997 Mercedes C280 in the past month:

Continental 195/65 HR 15
Michelin 195/65 HR 15
Bridgestone Potenza 195/65 HR 15
Bridgestone Turanza 205/60 HR 15
Bridgestone 730 205/55 ZR 15

And, all (except what models specified) had problems with:
Out of round, or bad road force variation
(tested on a new Hunter DSP 9700)
Poor straight line tracking
Poor handling (Continental, Michelin, Bridgestone Potenza)
Poor wet handling in the rear (Michelin)
Noise (Bridgestone 730)

The Pirelli P6000 had NONE of these problems. The stock size - 195/65 works better than even the Bridgestone 730 205/55 that had a AA traction rating!

I've heard that the problem of increased noise with wear was fixed in this model. Ford just selected Pirelli as their tire maker.

The only problem with Pirelli in general, is wear. I don't care! It's worth it; more comfortable; feels safer in all situations; goes STRAIGHT; VERY responsive; very ROUND, smooth, and quiet; I LOVE this tire! But, don't just take my word for it. Get it from a dealer who will allow you to return it if you don't like it. You won't!

Strength:

Quiet, comfort, good in stright line

Weakness:

These tyres provide no feedback whatsoever. In corners, you have no idea that you lost grip because it is so smooth and quiet.
Grip is moderate, not very sporty.
I'm going to change them...That's not what I'm looking for...
I won't give high score, because they were meant to be sporty.

Good comfort, not for sporting.

Strength:

Incredible traction, even in the rain

Weakness:

Forget about using them in the snow, and they wear out quick. But it's a high performance tire so what do you expect?

If you like to drive and drive hard, these are the tires for you. The sportier your car and the better you have the suspension dialed in, the more they will help.

Strength:

Incredible grip in wet, dry or Florida ice.

Weakness:

One of the reasons I chose my car was a high degree of road noise, so that's not much of an issue with me. A great tire at a great price. I'm a longtime Yokohama man and I've been won over. Almost the grip of AVS Inters with better wear characteristics, and the're (marginally) cheaper, and quiter, too.. I'm sold.

$234 including 2day FedEx, which, for 34 bucks for all four tires was only four bucks more than snailmail. Anybody who goes through lots of high performance tires recognizes a value, and I have nothing but rave reviews for these tires so far. The first day I put them on was the first day of rain in about 3 months on my side of town. The road felt like it was two inches thick in crisco, but these tires' ability to shed waster is very impressive. Very confidence inspiring. They even ride noticably better (read: softer) than the Firestones they replaced, at a wider width and lower aspect ratio, no less. Anything that would be too much for the grip of these tires would not be a sane thing to do on the streets, anyway. Maybe not one for the SUV/Towncar people, but people who like to know what the car's doing will be very happy.

Dry and wet grip and handling

Weakness:

Increasing noise with wear

$85. Fine handling and grip wet or dry, fair ride and low vibration levels. But got noisier and noisier as it wore. Interestingly, been replaced by an upgraded version with claimed improvements in noise performance.

If noise perfofmance is improved, would recommend it. If not; no.

Strength:

Pirelli has a name for producing a good high speed tyre
Inner lining does not tear on single puncture deflation.

Weakness:

Gets punctures on gravel roads after 30 % wear.
Will not get full use of tyre life if any gravel road is driven.
Useless in muddy conditions.

I drive on 5 percent of the distance on gravel /dirt roads and the rest on tar. The average speed is around 140km/h and 180km/h on the the tar. I have done 200 000 km with this car and am surprised to see the tyre degredation after 30 % wear. The tyre is soft at speeds exceeding 160 km/h and the smallest stone chip pierces the inner lining of the tyre. When repairing the tyres (Two) both displayed the same wear. Small air leaks were found over the tyre. At the straight line speed I normally drive this would a high risk. Fortunately the tyre deflates nomally (does not burst)and you can feel the lateral movement. This gives you enough time to reduce speed and stop.
