Pirelli P7000 Tires

Pirelli P7000 Tires

DESCRIPTION

The P7000TM has a first series of grooves set at a markedly radial angle. A second series of inclined circumferential grooves, the so-called saber cuts, is superimposed over the first series at a transverse angle. The radial grooves, reduce aquaplaning at medium-to-low speeds when the road surface is covered by a relatively deep layer of water. The circumferential grooves, along with the two parallel central channels, guarantee safety and precision on the wet, even at high speeds. Available in 15-19 inch sizes.

Strength:

Price was excellent

Weakness:

Width is narrower than quoted.
Cornering is just good.

I was looking for a longer lasting alternative to GY Gatorbacks for my Z28 (245/50 16). The Camaro Z28 would eat up the side treads on the GY's pretty quickly and cost about $150 each to replace.

The Pirelli's were quite a bit less expensive and offered a longer quoted treadwear. Took the Tire Rack ad in to a local shop, they matched the Tire Rack price on the Pirelli 7000's at about $100 each, but had to "order them" (1 day).

After they arrived I noticed that they were a bit narrower than the 245/50's which were removed. Double-checked the size and it was "right", Pirelli was cheating the size somehow in the width.

Anyway the cornering is pretty good, though not as good as the original Goodyear Gators. Wear is better, probably will last 1.5 to 2x longer. The Pirelli's are fine in the wet where the Gators would be a little too exciting when they decided to hydroplane.
