The 2007 Monte Carlo is a 2-door, 5-passenger family coupe, or sports coupe, available in 3 trims, ranging from the LS to the SS.
Upon introduction, the LS is equipped with a standard 3.5-liter, V6, 211-horsepower, flexible fuel engine that achieves 21-mpg in the city and 31-mpg on the highway. The SS is equipped with a standard 5.3-liter, V8, 303-horsepower engine that achieves 18-mpg in the city and 27-mpg on the highway. A 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard on both trims.
Summary: Great value for the money. I traded my 2000 Monte SS in for the 2004. The 2004 is basically the same except for a few minor improvements. I love the styling and ride. Great combination of performance and family sedan. Quiet and comfortable with more than adequate power for a large car. I added a K&N air filter for a little extra boost. 30mpg on highway. Steering is responsive and corners well. If you are thinking about one, get it this year because the re-skin for '05 doesn't look too good.
Strengths: Power
Styling (I am partial to the black)
Mileage
Value
Quiet ride
Roomy
Weaknesses: Interior could use some chrome trim or accent. Chrome wheel options would be nice

Summary: I've had it since 2005. I've had problems from day one. The main problem is the shifting. I've complained to the dealer several times about it not shifting properly. Just as it is about to shift gears it makes a "thunk" sound and I can feel the vibrations through the gas pedal. The problem only starts once it has warmed up a bit. Dealer said it's not the transmission, but I have my doubts. The problem started while the car was under warranty and, of course, the warranty is over now and the problem is occurring more frequently. I just had a transmission flush, but that didn't cure it (filter wasn't changed as apparently that's the old way of doing it). So the next day I took it to a transmission shop and they did a diagnostic on it and 2 codes popped up which indicated internal damage. So now it's back to the dealer next week. There's only 89,000 kms on it. Last year I took it to the dealer for an MVI and wound up paying over $800 for some steering part that just had to be replaced. I've never had a problem with the steering. Another problem, and this will sound weird, is at times it feels like it is going to "slip" off the highway (worse if it is raining). I can't explain it any better. I've bought new tires, had bushings replaced. It just doesn't feel secure driving it at 100 kph+.
Strengths: Comfortable drive, fairly good mileage. Trunk is huge and is able to accommodate a wheelchair.
Weaknesses: For a V6 it doesn't have as much power as I thought it would. Heavy doors. Back seat is hard. If you're over 5'7" there's not much leg/height room on the passenger side.

Summary: This is my first car, and i got it as my 16th birthday present from my parents. The car runs nice and the car is very fun to drive. I got the car with 53,200 miles on it. The engine is ultra smooth and quiet. Even though this is an LS with the 3.4 Liter V6 and not the SS it handles well. There is only a few problems with the car. The first is that the cruise control sometimes won't work and other times it works very well. The other problem is the front wheels will spin in loose gravel even though the car has traction control. The third problem is the interior lettering on the radio is coming off. The last problem is the rear seat axscess. The rest of the car is wonderful.
Strengths: A well built car. The ultra smoothe 3.4 liter V6. The power. Good Value. Found one at a great price. Avaliability of parts.
Weaknesses: Cruise Control. Traction Control Not Working. Radio Lettering rubbing off. Rear Seat Axcsess.

Summary: I fell in love with the Monte Carlo SS,
after having driven the car from hell, a 1996 Monte Carlo LS. I had it one week when I noticed paint lifting on the drivers side door above the body molding.
I rubbed it with my fingers and the paint came off in three little blobs. The dealer said two looked like car door dings, and couln't explain the third. They did not believe that it might be a paint problem. With another month a rather large blob of rain water caught my eye. I again rubbed my fingers across it, and voila, another three small blobs of paint missing, but not as deep as the earlier ones. Maybe now the dealer would believe me. No such luck. They couldn't
explain this one, but did warranty it out,
still not believing the first happening as
a paint problem. (An older Chevy Beretta had a complete new paint job.) Chevvie says the dealer is their eyes. (He does wear glasses.) As a long time user, I was
completely disillusioned.
Strengths: The car is beautiful in design. It responds well when steering, has many bells and whistles, some which are very
distracting, such as a radio which displays the song title and artist"s name.
It's hard to drive and read the display at the same time. Getting better gas mileage around town than with the LS.
Holding my breath for the other problems which may develop. I'm gun shy!
Weaknesses: Interior carpeting not from Karastan. Fill in plugs in frame not painted well.
Inside frame ledge under lower door edge
collects rain and dirt.
Similar Products Used: Previous cars were Plymouths (they really performed well), and a Ford Granada which I purchased while working for a Ford dealership.
