"Spend just 15 minutes behind the wheel of the Aveo5 and the predominant words that will pop up in your mind are terms like "decent" and "OK." Nothing really jumps out as exceptionally good or bad..."

Price Paid:  $0.00 from Lynnwood

Year / Model Reviewed:
2008 Cheve Aveo 5

Summary:
I bought this car for the gas mileage. I drive at least 30 miles a day in my commute to work 6 days a week. Supposedly it gets 33 mpg highway. I drive the express lanes at 60 mph every day with 2 to 3 miles of my commute on surface streets. I am getting between 22 to 24 mpg consistently. I am very disappointed. My son is 6 foot tall and even with the seat all the way back his legs are almost resting on the steering wheel. It comes with an arm rest which is so far back in the seat it barely reaches my hip and is so low that I can only rest my wrist on it if I reach behind me. As far as driving goes it is easy to drive.

Strengths:
like the color. hatchback is easy to get into. Easy to drive

Weaknesses:
gas mileage is lousy.

Price Paid:  $11300.00 from Tri County Cheverole

Year / Model Reviewed:
2008 Aveo 5 Hatchback

Summary:
This is my second Aveo. I just traded my 2005 5spd. sedan with 36,000 miles on this new 5 spd. hatchback. I had very good success with my 05 Aveo and it always got between 34-35 mpg on the highway at any speed. I never had problems with lack of power or poor economy. This has been a fun car and my new hatchback seems even better. The new car is tighter, handles a bit better and has a nicer stereo system. I also like the hatchback. I am 6'2 and do not feel cramped or lacking in legroom.

Strengths:
Style, cost and efficiency. Where else can you buy a new car for $11,300 out the door including taxes and fees. Its a bargain and should not be compared to much more expensive vehicles.

Weaknesses:
A larger fuel tank would be nice and larger cupholders.

Review 3 of 20

Price Paid:  $16000.00 from modern chevy

Year / Model Reviewed:
2007 Aveo LT sedan

Summary:
This is a tight little car with lots of features. Odd mix though--it seems Chevy thought out the design part pretty well, but missed some basic stuff in the process. For example, I have power locks but there is no power lock button in the car. So, to lock all the doors at once, you reach over and push down the lock on the drivers door. This sends a signal to lock the other 3 doors too. Strange. Also, the cupholders are flimsy and placed in a bad spot---too close to the a/c controls.

Small and tall on the outside, large on the inside. Sounds like a Chevy commercial but it is true. Looks kinda funny on the outside cause it is so small, especially when you find your aveo parked beside some road hog suv.

Handles well on a daily basis. Has no problem running 85 mph on the freeway. Does get pushed around quite a bit on windy days---that is sketchy.

Gas mileage is rough though. For this class of car, it should be a lot better. Chevy has much bigger cars that put up the same numbers as this little fella. Whats up??

Strengths:
nice interior with the leatherette package, stereo is tight (6 speakers 180 watts, mp3 aux input), handles well, steering wheel radio controls, decent power, like the grill its tight, big trunk

Weaknesses:
gas mileage should be a lot better, no power lock button, cup holders are a joke, cheap sun visors

Price Paid:  $12000.00 from Palm Chevrolet

Year / Model Reviewed:
2007 5 dr

Summary:
Looking for Fuel economy ... this is NOT your vehicle. This is a good driving car for it's size. Driver's area is very comfortable.

Strengths:
Lots of head and leg room in the front.
Back seats lay flat for transporting luggage or purchases.

Weaknesses:
I live outside the city limits and drive approx 60mls round trip daily to work. Fuel economy was the selling point for me and I have been left greatly diappointed. I feel that the MPGs on this model are over rated.

Review 5 of 20

Price Paid:  $0.00 from Ontario Canada

Year / Model Reviewed:
2007 Aveo 5

Summary:
What a piece of junk. Only 6500 kms on my new Aveo and I have had more problems with it than my 7 year old Honda.

Strengths:
None. Well, cheap price maybe but you get what you pay for.

OH...and you can adjust the MP3 player from the steering wheel.

Weaknesses:
Mp3 player does not play MP3's in the cold.

Engine takes a long time to heat up.

Heat produced by engine is poor.

Interior blower fan is weak at best.

Cant lock the driver door without the key. VERY ANNOYING!

Seats feel like they are made out of cardboard. They hurt your but and your back on long drives, and you sit in a weird position. Can never seem to get comfortable.

Engine power is useless. For a 1.6L engine I think Chevy can do better than 100 HP. COMMON...look at the Honda B16 series engines. THATS how you build a 1.6L engine.

Wiper motor is weak at best. Espcially when cold.

Manual trnasmission is JUNK. Gear ratios are poop and the shifter throw is a mile long. Not only that but the shifter feels like the bushings are worn out. It slops all over the place and gives POOR feel. My car has only 6000 KMS on it.

The doors close like crap. You can tell the car is junk just by opening and closing a door.

Rear brakes stick on in cold wet weather. Nothing like dragging the rear end of your car around trying to get to work in the morning. Whats up with that? GM can you do anything right?

This BRAND NEW CAR has already been back to the dealership a number of times for warranty repairs and I have not even had the 1st oil change yet.

GM, its no wonder your falling to the Japanese market. You cant build anything right. You take the same old crap, re-badge it and sell it to poor unsuspecting people who get killed with repair bills. I cant believe in your time of crisis you released such a piece of pure JUNK to the public. Espcially after Daewoo could not even sell any. The quality of this car makes me sick!!!
