The 2008 Sonata is a 4-door, 5-passenger family sedan, available in 6 trims, ranging from the GLS to the Limited V6.
Upon introduction, the GLS is equipped with a standard 2.4-liter, I4, 162-horsepower engine that achieves 21-mpg in the city and 31-mpg on the highway. A 5-speed manual transmission with overdrive is standard, and a 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is optional. The Limited V6 is equipped with a standard 3.3-liter, V6, 234-horsepower engine that achieves 19-mpg in the city and 28-mpg on the highway. A 5-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard.
Summary: This has to be one of the best cars in the market! I have the 2.4L GLS model with the necessary stuff that is standard on all Hyundai's plus I got a moonroof and power seats! I work for a Nissan dealership and was planning on getting the new 2008 Altima but I never liked it, even now! This Sonata has the best interior and exterior quality and I have to say that the great materials on this vehicles don't fade as quickly or get scarred as my previous vehicle a 2006 Altima 3.5SE. This is a fun to drive vehicle and it looks good from every angle, unlike the current Altima with it's nasty styling, bad interior space and the same goes for the coupe. It also feels more substantial, compared to the 2008 Altima and it has a great warranty! I've owned a Hyundai before and this company has come up from what they were 20 years ago! I love my Hyundai and would purchase another one. The Altima is too hyped up and gimmicky for my taste and it isn't the best vehicle out there. The interior quality is sub par, the ride and handling is more sporting but it feels less substantial compared to other cars in its class. Also the entry level models don't come with the standard features that my Sonata has. It may rate high with consumer reports but in a current Motortrend comparison test it got a 4th place win, not to mention the Altima coupe lost to an Accord Coupe in an Edmunds.com comparison test and in a Car and Drive comparison test it again lost to the current generation Accord. If you look at the Altima it is quite small compared to other cars in its class.
Strengths: Engine, transmission, suspension, stereo (adjusted the audio controls it has some boom!) interior quality, exterior quality very nimble and light on its feet steering is precise and communicates the manumatic transmission is the best and holds revs!!!
Weaknesses: none at all!

Year / Model Reviewed: 2008 Hyundai Sonata Limited
Summary: A true value. Smooth, very quiet and quick, loaded with standard options. Traded in my 2005 Santa Fe...also a trouble-free vehicle.
Strengths: Roominess. I'm 6'1", 260lbs. Fuel economy. Finish. Ride. Sound system. Too many strengths to list.
Weaknesses: Would like fold-away mirrors.

Summary: i totaled my 2001 pt cruiser on monday and was able to be in a 2008 sonata on tuesday evening...omg i am in love!...after one short drive i couldnt believe the driveability, how easy it is to maneuver..i am estatic about it, all i want to do is drive, my daughter wants to sleep in the car, she loves it so much
Summary: LOVE IT!!! And after reading all the other reviews about the Altimas, am I ever glad I went with the Sonata. (thought I wanted the Nissan Altima). My Sonata has 4 cyl engine-but you would swear it is a 6 cyl., power seats, sunroof, XM radio, rides like a dream, gets great gas mileage. I have always been a buy in America kinda of person. A Ford person. This is built in Alabama..so this is a good fit for me. And since Ford has sent so much work to Mexico and Ford's vehicles have gone down hill so much since the earlier days.......
Anyway, this car has everything. Why can't America design cars with this much thought? I love everything about it.
Strengths: Comfort. Gas mileage. Design-everything is within easy reach for driver and makes perfect sense. There is a light around the ignition switch (the lack of that drove me nuts with my old car.) Can't lock yourself out of the car. Has integrated I-Pod system. Auto lights. Love that the radio is contolled on the steering wheel. 60/40 split rear seat. Huge trunk.
Weaknesses: None that I can see so far!!!
