The C/K has 4 engine options available, one diesel V8 with 195-hp and three gasoline V8's with 230, 255, and 290-hp. They're available in 2 and 4 wheel drive and 5 speed manual or automatic transmissions. ABS is standard.
Summary: I own the new Silverdo (Crew Cab) 2500HD 4x4, 4:10 rear end, with the 6.0L gas engine. I selected the truck because of the engine size. The truck drives great. However, the engine has developed a knock when starting cold and after towing a boat. The gas mileage averaged about 12 at first, but it has dropped to 10.5. It has also started to idle rough.
Strengths: Ride (for a HD truck), cabin noise, interior layout.
Weaknesses: Engine not as strong as expected, rough idle, engine knock, gas mileage.

Summary: great truck and best diesel on the market of the 2001 models(friends that own dodge and ford diesels agree about power and quietness).cat quick up to 97mph,then the governor takes over.
Strengths: fast, powerful, extremely quiet for a diesel, comfortable ride.allison 1000 trans.shifts smoother and effortless as any luxury car I've driven.lots of space and compartments.
Weaknesses: price, looks compared to ford or dodge.inferior sound system in the ls models.

Summary: Worst truck I ever owned. Never again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Strengths: very functional interior.
Weaknesses: engine is a complete pooch. Tires and wheels suck.Doesn't shift into 4x4 on the fly all the time. Need a city block to turn around. GM was extremely difficult to deal with. I had to go to arbitration to get them to repurchase this pile. Looking at Ford now.

Summary: This is my first new truck. I loved it on the first day, and after 45,000 miles in a year and a half, I still love it. It is good looking, durable, dependable and roomy.
Strengths: Terrific ride. Great handling for a pickup. Plenty of power. Reliable, have had no problems, except lubricating the power window lift mechanism. Enjoyable on long trips. It is a great vehicle for highway driving, towing, and hauling. The extended cab rear seats are the most comfortable of all the extended cabs, and are tolerably comfortable for one-day trips for those six footers out there, although it is really designed for the kids. Additionally, for those comparing an extended vs a regular cab, get the extended cab, you will always use the back seat area to toss your stuff that you don't want or need in the front seat. Overall, just a great well thought-out truck, with a good finish in trim and paint. I have never regretted the purchase.
Weaknesses: As with any full size truck, parking in mall parking lots is never fun. It is awkward getting out of the back suicide door without getting in the way of the front passenger. Plus, get the four door extended cab if you have a choice, I don't understand why Chevy would not put the fourth door in the beginning of production instead of the stupid three door configuration. Gas mileage could be better, but hey, it's a truck
Similar Products Used: Much better ride and handling over the Ford and Dodge. Better finish than the Dodge. Miles ahead of Dodge and Ford extended cabs when it comes to back seat. Chevy Engineers evidently understood that their truck owners would actually want to put a human being in the back seat and not a tool box. I think that the new Chevy design is much better looking than Dodge or Ford.

Summary: We paid $27,750 Canadian Dollars. Would not recommend it for safety sake because it doesn't have air bags and it is not an option. We picked this model because we felt it would be safer having only two doors - the insurance premium is cheaper too, and there have been no side impact studies on the four door models that we could find. But without the air bags - well....
Good truck for farm work. The truck bed height is lower than the new Silverado and Fords, which makes it easier to load and unload. However, Dodge 2WD is just as low. Rides well without too much bounce, tows well too. Turns tight making it easy to backup a trailer into a tight spot. Space in the rear is adequate for children, too cramped for adults for longer than one hour. Seems good on gas mileage empty, about 14mpg (canadian gallons).
Strengths: Good simple work truck, quiet on the road, turns tightly, brakes nice and firm. Good milage for truck this size.
Weaknesses: No airbags. 18 weeks delivery for long box 2wd ext. cab from GMC Pulls to the middle of the road but only occassionally - can't figure it out. A real pain to wire for fifth wheel trailers. Ford and Dodge are easier to do. Windshield wipers stick up and obstruct the view for short people.
Similar Products Used: Have always had Chevys. Maybe will try Dodge next time.
