Strength:

Smooth powerful acceleration, lots of useful goodies (heated seats, sportshift, heated mirrors, xenon headlights, automatic rear-view mirror), comofortable and quiet. Good trunk room and back seat room compared to competitors. Automatic climate control system is great - air conditioning cools off car very quickly in the summer.

Weakness:

- Squeaks in moonroof (fixed by dealer)
- Slight hesitation in acceleration
- Stock tires could be better
- Would have liked a CD changer

I bought the car for comfort during my 2 hours of commute every day. If you HAVE to commute, it is so nice to sit in highway traffic isolated from outside noise, in a comfortable, easy-to-adjust seat which can be heated for your aching back, listening to music! I find myself a lot less stressed when I get to work or get home.

This was my first quasi-luxury car in 35 years of driving. Compared to a lot of others (BMW 3 series, Lexus, Chrysler 3000, Accord, Audi, etc). I chose it for value, getting equal or better perforamnce in most areas for a LOT less money. Great performance and features for the money.

Strength:

Price, Looks, Size, Instrumentation, Navigation System, This car is a very good value. Much better thant the BMW 3 series for less $, bigger, faster not as sporty though.

Weakness:

Windshield wipers suck! leaves streaks on day one!?? no memory seats, no onboard computer with avg. MPG or Dest. to Empty. Seems to hesitate a little when accel. no indash CD changer, Transmission seems to do funny things when down shifting?? Wind noise seems to be getting worse.

Overall excelent highly recommend. Don't let my weakness list scare you. for 30K I should expect those weaknesses. Smooth ride, very fast for it's price. I like the size much bigger than most competition. Thought I would like the Sport shift better though, it is almost too smooth.

Strength:

Attractive without being splashy. Excellent ride and features. Great value for the money. This is my fourth Acura and the best. Honda reliability.

Weakness:

Only seat surface has leather. Had a '94 Legend with better appointments. Memory seat would be appropriate, as would CD changer in dash.

Unequivocally recommended. Given my experience and Acura's reputation this car will be eminently reliable, serviceable and enjoyable to drive for many years. No need to spend upwards of $35K to get what the TL provides. Absolutely perfect car for a couple or one person businessman who has to drive a great deal. I drive to New York City regularly, about 400 miles each way, and feel refreshed after each drive. All systems go!

Similar Products Used:

Driven the Lexus, BMW, and Infinities in the $30-35,000 price range and they don't give you as much as the Acura except in raw speed, and that's only in the BMW. Lexus is especially ugly. Dollar for dollar, the Acura is the best of its class and that immediately above it.

Strength:

I like its behind.
Very nice leather and wood trim interior
Good build quality

Weakness:

The ride is not as solid as a Lexus. Its response is far not as swift as a BMW 3 series, and acceleration is less smooth than a Lexus.
The front looks like a typical Honda, it is not exclusive enough.
The standard BOSE sound system leaves a lot to be desired. I would like Acura to have the option to upgrade it to a better sound system.

Very good value for money, good all-rounder for the masses, but not really for car enthusiasts.

Strength:

HANDLES LIKE A DREAM AND HAS JUST ABOUT ALL THE OPTIONS YOU COULD WANT IN A CAR AND THEY ARE ALL PART OF THE STANDARD PACKAGE.

Weakness:

THE CAR REQUIRES PREMIUM GASOLINE. THEREFORE, THE OPERATING EXPENSE IS A LITTLE HIGH, BUT IF THAT IS A PROBLEM YOU PROBABLY CAN'T AFFORD THIS CAR ANYWAY.

I HAD BEEN DRIVING A JETTA WHICH ILOVED,BUT I WANTED TO TREAT MYSELF A LITTLE WITH WHAT I COULD AFFORD. I LOVE MY TL.IT IS ALL THAT IT HAS BEEN CRACKED UP TO BE AND A REAL PLEASURE TO DRIVE.

Strength:

- Strong smooth powertrain
- Excellent fit and finish
- Good mileage
- Quiet interior and climate control system
- Firm yet comfortable ride
- Supportive seats and roomy interior
- Excellent reliability history

Weakness:

- Lack of memory seats.
- Lack of right side mirror tilt feature for safer backing
- Lack of in-dash CD Changer (included on CL)

I recommend the car for anyone who wants upscale refinement, quality, reliability, good fuel economy and value for a reasonable price.

Chrysler LHS/300M - More bells and whistles for the money, but much less reliable and depreciates horribly.

Strength:

Terrific engine with smooth delivery of power and quiet performance. 5 speed transmission, with particular emphasis on intuitive and seamless SportShift feature, We owned a '98 Honda Accord EX-V6 previously, which has a four speed box which in my opinion constantly hunted for gears and was extremely slow to downshift. This is no problem with the tighter gearing and manual operation of the TL's transmission. Comfortable and supportive seats, with high quality leather surfaces and the excellent standard seat heaters. Cavernous trunk. The xenon headlights, which I feel by their inclusion in this car make it more than just a little bit of a steal. General feeling of solidity and refinement (at least of drivetrain and cabin build)

Weakness:

It is illogical to me that this car does not have memory seats or an in dash CD changer, when the similarly priced Acura CL has these very items. The fact that Honda insists on putting tacky vinyl on the sides and backs of the seats. While the actual leather that is in place is of nice quality, their insitance on the vinyl match kind of ruins the overall effect. I suppose that for another 6-10 thousand I could buy a Lexus or BMW which would get me real leather and real wood, but then I would be losing out on so many other positives that Honda offers with this car. Although the sound quality of the radio is excellent, it does not seem to live up to the promise of its' 180 watt rating. I imagine that the loudness setting is tuned more for the ear of the older target market for this car, rather than someone who is still in their 20s.

The Acura TL is not an exotic car. It is not an extremely glamorous or prestigous. It IS however, a fantastic car which is a lot more prestigous and glamorous than a lot of other cars out there. In my opinion it is 9/10ths of all of the things that cars can be. There is a lot of room in that other 1/10th, which is where BMW and Mercedes and all of that other stuff resides, but that does not take away from what an excellent car this is. So if you are remotely realistic about what you are looking for in car and if you have the modest resources required to purchase a TL, I think it would be very, very difficult to find a reason not to buy this car.

Similar Products Used:

Owned a Honda Accord EX-V6 previous to this car and the comparison is exactly what Honda wants it to be: similar with the TL winning out on refinement, power and amenities. Also looked at the Volkswagen Passat GLX, which is superior in overall style and european luxury/features, but lacks the flat out value and pricing/availablity of the Acura.

Strength:

The '99 Acura TL offers a very comfortable and smooth ride with good combination of performance and handling considering the ~$30K price.
The stereo and AC/heat/ventilation system works very well. Visibility is also very good. I've had the car for 32,000 miles with no malfunctions whatsoever.

Weakness:

Lots of interiors squeaks and rattles. Most of the noise comes from the sunroof and console cover. Navigation system contains errors (e.g., wrong map locations for a given address) and its coverage is limited to urban areas. The TL could use larger tires for better handling. The 4 speed transmission does not shift very elegantly.

-I would recommend this car to anyone wanting a reliable, comfortable sedan with great performance:$ ratio.
-The Navigation system is only good if you do a lot of travelling.
-Hopefully, the newer cars with the 5-speed transmission are better than my 4-speed.

I compared this car to the Audi A4 and Accord V6. The Audi was too small. For the cost differential the TL offered better value than the Accord and the Audi.

Strength:

Extremely comfortable and quiet ride. 200 HP provides great acceleration. 19/24 mpg city/hwy is good gas mileage for a 3.2 liter V6. This car sends the message: "I am successful and responsible."

Weakness:

Remote key does not unlock the trunk or chirp to signify that the car is locked and security system is engaged. Tends to pull to the right even after proper alignment and new tires. Brake pedal arm is at an angle so you are unable to deply the Autolock anti theft device.

Researched Lexus ES300, Infinity I30t, Toyota Avalon XLS. The Acura 3.2TL is the most reliable and the best value for the dollar

Strength:

Standard features for price range. I could not find another car for under $30K that comes standard with Leather, Power seats, Sunroof, CD with sub, Xenon lights, sportshift trans., 50K warranty. Good gas mileage on highway.

Weakness:

Better Handling, fog lights, 17 inch wheels, gas guzzler in city driving, wider tire.

I would recommend this car. I do a lot of traveling (6-states)and the Navigation system saves me a ton of time and keeps me from getting lost.
