Absolute piece of junk. The entire electric top system has gone out and I am now informed that these never work and never have. They should not even be selling this car. We hve had it in the shop 5 times in the last month, invested almost $4000 in repairs and the car has only 60,000 miles. And, we still don''t know if it is fixed.

I don''t know where to begin. How about the race car like sounds from the engine & drive train.

Weakness:

The AC turns on itself every time I start the car.

Could very well be almost one of the ULTIMATE DRIVING MACHINES. Faster than others in its class. A blast to drive on winding mountain highways. Because I have this car, I''m always the one driving to places with my friends. They all favor to ride in the Beemer over their Civics,Focus''s Neons,Altimas, and Corolas.

Strength:

Power and lots of it, AWD holds the road even in the rain better then anything I have ever driven. Lots of features.

Weakness:

Fuel economy is not the best, heavy foot isn''t helping much either. Stock tires are ok on a Honda but not a BMW. Replaced them with Michelin Pilot XGT Z4 (235/45/17 - YES they fit fine. No rubbing) and I installed them on the rear wheel drive front rims (need to keep all the tires the same size because of the AWD. Use front rims on the front AND back of the car. Looks a lot meaner and handles like a BMW should!

BMW 330xi Great car! Holds the road like it was bolted to it. Stock tires had to go, but after that it is even more impressive the the 97 328 w/ sport pkg. Would buy another in a heartbeat!

Great handling, brakes, engine, and transmission. Does it get any better than this?

Weakness:

Cleaning the sport package wagon wheels all the time. Poor rear traction in the snow even with traction control turned on. Very poor service by Open Road BMW. Every time I bring in the car for service they manage to break something. I''ll be using a new dealership for service.

What a great automobile this has been. The best car I''ve owned by far. How does Mercedes justify charging so much more for the CLK which is essentially a Chrysler? I went with minimal options with my car. No power roof, seats, auto transmission. It is a pure driving car. The engine and transmission are like silk.

To me, the lack of reliability, particularly in a new $40 vehicle, outweighs any of the car''s strengths.

Weakness:

Inability of dealer to diagnose and repair car, refusal to do anything other than make more futile attempts to repair.

Worst car I have ever owned. In less than 5,000 miles, BMW has worked on the same problem 5 times and has still not fixed the car.

Weakness:

Lousy customer service at the dealer
Fit & finish
Plastic rear-window
High payments for 4-yr old car
Maintenance costs
The cost of premium gas all the time

The convertible has been a real pleasure to drive except for tons of small annoyances and the sinking feeling in my stomach over all the money I am pouring into this car (an evil depreciating asset). Payments, insurance and maintenance add up to over US$1000/month.

On the minus side, since buying this certified pre-owned car the headliner in the roof has fallen down twice, a metal spar in the roof has fallen out repeatedly, the glove box fell apart, squeaks and rattles have appeared all over and intermittent problems with the roof stalling and the car not wanting to start have occurred. My experience with the dealer has been horrible (Foreign Motors West, Natick MA). I have not gone back. When the car was delivered it had a crack in the windshield and the wrong plates. When I took it back for repairs, the service department could not find some of the problems and missed fixing other items I'd written down. I ended up fixing some myself. I already mentioned the $$$ situation. I am getting rid of the car because of this. I cannot afford it anymore now that all my money has evaporated in the stock market :^(.

On the plus side, the ride is as smooth as silk and quiet even at 70MPH with the roof down. It looks great and is super-comfortable. We like cruising around with the heated seats on, the top down and heat cranked when it's 40F outside. It handles like a dream. It certainly turns heads and I constantly get comments about how nice the car is. The climate-control system is the best I've seen and the cruise-control is dead-on all the time never wavering from the set speed.

If I had deeper pockets maybe I'd flock to the new 330iC but I don't. So, it's probably going to be a used Saab convertible next. At least it's US$10-15K cheaper and I can drive it in the winter. You get what you pay for so I know it won't be as nice but more important you get what you can afford. I can't afford this BMW any longer. Some please take over the payments :^) !!!

Strength:

- Great Looks
- Great Handling / Performance
- Status Symbol
- Excellent Engine with good gas mileage for performance
- Excellent resale value
- Top-notch safety ("Safe Car of the Millenium", in fact)

Weakness:

It's been a great car, but I've had my share of problems with it - all covered under warranty. These include: 3 power window regulators replaced, CD player replaced, moonroof motor replaced, thermostat replaced, speaker grill replaced, and still has many 'rattles' inside the car.

I realize this is a lot for a new car, but I think I've worked out the 'bugs' if you will, under warranty. I'm keeping the car for now, but if anything major goes wrong with it I'll sell it and buy a Lexus. I kind of go back and forth on that. On one hand I want to keep the BMW for 250,000 miles, on the other I want to sell it as soon as the warranty is up to avoid costly repairs.

The best car I've ever owned. It's a blast to drive and puts a smile on my face every single day. However, owning a BMW does not mean it's as reliable as a Lexus or Toyota. Plain and simple - it's not! So if you currently drive a Lexus or Toyota and expect to get the same reliability out of a BMW, save your money and stick with one of those. But if you want a car that drives and handles like a dream, impresses everywhere you go, and is just "ok" in terms of durability / reliabiliy then go with the BMW.

To tell you the truth, I stumbled on a great deal for this car. I probably wouldn't have bought it if I hadn't received such and excellent deal. I'm very glad that I stumbled on that deal though.

In my opinion the only competition for this car is the Lexus IS300 and Audi A4. Drive them and compare for yourself since everyone has different preferences.

Strength:

Just test drove this at the dealer! Excellent off the line power. Merging and passing is a breeze! The car feels very solid. Nice big 17" tires and the Brakes are phenominal, but remember this: "others behind you have brakes that suck, so try to go easy"

Weakness:

I came into the dealership enthusiastic, i came out disappointed. The previous series is much better. The 328i is a much quieter car. The 330i has a horrible pseudo M3 exhaust note that got more annoying with each start off a light. So annoying that you could still hear it at highway speed. Not kosher for a car of this caliber. The steptronic transmission is a waste of time unless you live in the Himalayas. Wind noise is also very apparent at 70 mph. The redesigned power window and moonroof buttons are a big mistake. Why the hell did they mess with perfection from the last series? Even the salesman had trouble and he practically lives there. Plus, the handling on the 98 318i I drive is at least 20% better than this poor attempt of BMW evolution. If it wasn't for the AWD coming later this month, go with the Audi 2.7T. I will! (P.S. - Don't let them fool you with the "It has more interior room" line that they fed me. If the back seat were any smaller, you wouldn't need a child seat. I bet the AWD is a joke too.)

I hope you don't get a lemon, cuz that would be really bad. Wait a few years and let the new 330i ferment a bit, at least until they get rid of the obvious bugs. You could probably get an awesome 97 740 iL for the same price and command the road. But hey, its still a BMW so I guess it at least gets three stars.

Good looks! Awesome interior! Pretty quick at 0-60 in 6.6 sec.

Weakness:

Wheels needs cleaning after you drive it! You need to park away from other cars! You don't want dings on this baby!

I love this car! This car is so smooth that when I'm going about 80-90mph on the freeway it seems like you are gliding! I wish I had a stick though. But the Auto tranni is just as awesome! Although I like this car a lot I'm thinking of trading up to a 540i in a couple of years. But if you are wheeling to pay $40k this car is for you! The Ultimate driving machine is the perfect slogan!
