Cadillac Catera
Strength:
The strengths are the handling, reliability, superb abs and trackion control features, Bose stereo, and the On-Star feature :)
Weakness:
The only weaknesses i have seen so far is that parts for this vehicle are VERY expensive (as with all caddys) and if your trying to find performance parts for this car....forget about it! everything has to be custom-made. I have to say that i absolutely LOVE this car. Not only does this car handle exceptionally well, but the Bose stereo system totally bumps! Granted I was a little dissapointed with the little 200hp engine, but i have done some enhancements and modifications to the engine and exhaust and bumped that # up to 285hp :) I have taken it to the track and it runs low 13's @ 101mph |

Weakness:
the car This car sucks!!!!!!! I have had nothing but problems. I bought this car for my wife solely on looks and ride and price. I should have known it was too good to be true. We have paid over $3000 in service for this car in addition to all the warrantied stuff. This car is a lemon. I am in the process of starting a class action suit so we all can get our money back. |

Strength:
handling, luxury points, smooth transmission, stereo(dont have bose),less than benzes and bmers repairs
Weakness:
knick knack items.expect them just like in bmers and them benzes just like most german cars, this car has maint. issues.i have spent a few dollars for small nagging repairs but my car had 75k on it when i bought it.thanks to my previous owner,he left all service records in the car for review.the most notorious thing was the oxygen sensors.he replaced them all(4)but the parts carry a lifetime warranty so as you can imagine,it was a very smooth transition.this car has been as fun as my other german cars but the most important part of the used car purchase is how the previous owner cared for it.this car is no different than benzes and bmers.they cost alot to keep running.this car handles just as well all around performance is good.one thing though. this is not a caddy.it is an opel.if you expect a cadillac dont buy it if you expect a german sports car, buy it! Strength:
Bose sound system, body style, interior design.
Weakness:
Not only do I NOT have adequate space to document all the weaknesses, but time also restricts me from telling all. Bought the car from Thrifty Car Sales @ 62,000 miles. Tried to return it within the first 30 days. Engine light came on, engine coolant light, just to name a few. Had to have vehicle towed from out of town because the engine froze. Tom Peacock Cadillac replaced the engine under warranty. I paid 800 in addition to my deductible for parts not covered. Has bad centerlink or something in steering or underneath that makes noise. Last weekend driving on freeway vehicle shut off, had to have towed, back to square one! Similar Products Used: Inifinit Q-45, Chyrsler LHS |

YOU GOT ALL DAY? Bought the car, drove well...at 35k miles....should have given it back because the next month AFTER PURCHASE I had to take it back because it didnt shift properly. They replaced some part on the TRANSMISSION.....recall for timing belt six months later...this car was very expensive to keep up....finally the transmission went...try $4,000 to fix....try me calling the Corporate Office- no deal no assuming responsibility because out of warranty....so I called the finance company after no one wanting to do a decent trade in...not even the dealership I got it from...told them come get thier garbage......I am going back to foreign cars.......this is the first and last american made...FOR SURE! |

Strength:
Everything works at 96,000 km. and I mean everything. Excellent steering, handling, and braking. Interior finish is remarkably good for an "entry-level" Caddy. Leather seat surfaces are still in pristine condition. Engine has lots of power when called upon, but is fairly quiet under hard acceleration. Exterior body fit is as good as anything I've seen; comparable to Lexus standards in my opinion. Very good standard sound system, just wish we had the trunkmounted CD deck.
Weakness:
Nothing much at all, until I began searching the internet. Apparently a fair few of the early Cateras had major problems with the timing belt tensioner failing which of course led to the destruction of the timing belts and the trashing of the top end of the engine (interference between valves and pistons, MEGA$ to repair) To Cadillac's everlasting credit they have agreed to replace the belts, tensioner, and waterpump under a recall order at no cost. Fun to drive, solid, powerful car. I cannot think of a better car for the money I paid, and I've driven more than a few "upscale ""luxury"" cars". Similar Products Used: Jaguar XJ12- A bigger, heavier car with a much more powerful engine. We still have the Jag, for highway driving at speed the Catera comes close but doesn't equal the stable silent ride of the Jaguar. |

great looks, strong engine and tight/responsive handling, fun to drive, great bose sound system
Weakness:
parts are expensive(wife cracked fog lamp 130$ for parts only),stock tires need replaced fast. not the best car i have owned but for price not bad I purchased my 98' cadillac catera in july 1999, with about 30,000 miles. The car is very fun to drive and has a strong engine and tight handling.I have driven the car to about 65,000 miles, with no major problems. The only problems were minor(a bad antifreeze sensor, a serpentine belt recall, and a worn down brake pad).I had MANY more problems with my 92' lincoln continental(rebuilt engine, new front air springs, ect) Similar Products Used: bmw 325i |
