Strength:
Fun car to drive when it runs. Handles good too.
Weakness:
Where to start. To many to list. Do you yourself a favor and don't buy this car. I have had it more in the shop then in my driveway. Did I mention I only had it for 4k miles before it broke down. Similar Products Used: 92 Saturn - never had any major problems had it for over 100k miles. |

Weakness:
car has too many things that could go wrong with it , parts are very expensive. do not let all the features it has rail you in to purchasing this car, it sucks half the time you will have problems just starting the stupid thing. there is somany electrical things in it that go wrong with it all the time. I only bought it bercause I thought it would be good quality because it had the cadillac name ,but I guess that dont mean anything. I will never purchase another cadillac for as long as I live! I hope you guys at cadillac never ever sell another one of these cars or you will guarunteed go out of buisiness in time to come. hope you people are happy for all the pain youve put on people. Strength:
Nice sound system and sporty look!
Weakness:
Everything except for the look and the sound! I've had my car for one year and 2 months and I swear out of this year it has never driven good, let alone decent! I am very dissappointed in my purchase and want to get rid of it so bad! Every dealership that I go to and try to trade it in they always say the same thing "Catera, such a bad car, it's going to be hard to try to resell this". The car is worth nothing and it not at all reliable! It has been in the shop for repairs 6 times for major things. I have never paid under $500 to get something fixed. I have put over $4000.00 into this car for repairs and refuse to do anything else. My most expensive repair (that I'm not getting fixed) are the sprk plug wires. The estimated total of repair was $975.00. I am tired of putting money into a non-productive piece of junk! Whoever is seeking a Catera, I say look another direction. You only put yourself into a hole! It is definitely a LEMON! Similar Products Used: Ford Taurus (I wish I would have kept it) |

Strength:
It has good pickup and it looks great.
Weakness:
Not reliable or dependable. When I saw the Cadillac Catera I fell in love with it. I did research before making the purchase, however, the wasn't yet accurately established. I wish I could have had the opportunity to read the reviews I recently read. My car stops without any warning. Or I get dressed in the morning planning to drive away and the car will not start. It has been towed about four times. The gas tank was defective. Whenever I would fill my tank, the gas would overflow. The tank was replaced. The cause for stalling has not been discovered. I was told I just had a run with bad batteries. I've had three new batteries since I purchased the car. Also, after driving for a period of time, the dash(board)gets extremely hot. It feels as if it's a part of the engine. I very disappointed in the car. I thought the seats would b comfortable, but they aren't. My warranty is up now so I've started spending money I don't have on repairs that existed earlier. Similar Products Used: Volvo |

Strength:
Great ride, sound system, solid handling and responsive engine. Nice looking
Weakness:
1997 year had to many problems. When they point and laugh at you for owning one at the dealership you know something is slighlty wrong. Tons of recalls and poor track record This was a impulse buy and a bad one at that. When that car runs it is a wonderful ride. Unfortunatly it's broken down more often then not. In regards to the highly positive and highly negative reviews: The 1997/1998 model years were HORRIBLE for this vehicle. The 1999 was decent and the 2000 really good. They learned from all the problems the previous years had. To late for us 1997/1998 owners though. I am looking right now at a bill for $1,700 worth of work. Got a Cadillac quote for $530 for front brake work, Midas will do the same thing for $170. Mine has 63k miles now and I can not afford to keep servicing it. I am sorry that $1,000 every two months is over my budget for a car. It's paid for though Similar Products Used: BMW 325, Mercedes 190D |

Strength:
Makes a great lawn ornament when broken down, can use as a flower planter.
Weakness:
How much time do you have? Major Lemon! Purchased with 30,000 miles used, first week the steering column fell apart. Since then, a range of problems including plugs and wires shorted out, frying 2 oxygen sensors and the ignition coil - In the shop now with a $2000 estimate. Parts are wickedly expensive - plug wire cost $425, normal GM are $50. How do they sleep at night? We will never, ever buy another Cadillac! DO NOT BUY THIS CAR! LEMON, LEMON, LEMON! Similar Products Used: Mazda 626, ran 198,000 miles with no trouble. |

Purchased as a demo in 1998, no problems until after 4 year warranty expired. While on vacation over 700 miles from home, with milage at 46,000 miles, the transmission went. $3,600 to fix. What really makes me angry is that I had it into the dealer 10 days prior to this and told them had problems with sluggish performance and they could not find it. I have a call into my lawyer now. |

Strength:
NIce stereo package and body style .Car has a lot of power when it is not broken down which is not very often.
Weakness:
Constant problems This piece of crap has been constant problems since the salesman at Bob Saks conned us in to buying it.Transmission problems. 4 recalls for timing problems ,harmoic balancer ,rear end .Parts are extremely expensive.I just found out this car is not a cadillac but an opel. Opel is a crap car and I would not have bought it if the salesman had been honest with me and told me this. I will never trust General Motors again. I always thought GM meant quality but I guess I was wrong. I had always bought Ford before I should have known. Similar Products Used: Ford trucks ,Dodge trucks,Toyota |

A great buy in the used auto market. Great Euro ride with lots of features.
Weakness:
Sure, drop in a high output Northstar and things could be even more fun! After a bit of research I chose a 2000 Catera to replace my XJ6. Although a little less flash on the outside, the interior actually offers more features than the Jag did. The car looks great and offers a nice balance between ride and handling. It offers most possible options as standard equipment and is fun to drive. A local Cadillac dealer ran the history of the car, found then took care of a couple of warranty issues like the belt tensioner, etc. I simply love this car! It still has a year of the original warranty coverage, at the end of which I will purchase an extended coverage. I get about 24 mpg and power is acceptable for a car of this size and power rating. No complaints regarding the car and I love the service I received at Sapaugh Cadillac. Similar Products Used: I've had 6 SAABS and the XJ6. |

Strength:
When the car drives, it has a comfortable ride and the interior is very luxurious. It has heated leather seats and the Bose system is a bonus.
Weakness:
It breaks down constantly. This car is the worst car I have ever owned. It is constantly breaking down. In the last year, I have had over $12,000 worth of repairs done. Luckily, most parts were still under warranty. This car has had major electrical problems, transmission problems, and multiple computer problems. I would never buy another Cadillac. |
