Strength:
Looks, comfort, Bose CD & stereo, power, handling. They all lure you into the purchase. I wish I would have found this sight before I bought the car. I'm not the only unhappy, ticked off, person responding like this.
Weakness:
Belt Tensioner out (twice),Timing Belt out, oil cooling system out (water got in engine, got flush and most hoses replaced, brake light strip out,Stoplight Switch out, interior door handle popped off, cup holder replaced,Front brakes cost me $506 to replace at Schuman Cadillac of Hawaii. The Manager didn't even know how the brake sensor worked, but I explained it to her and the mechanic. I can use up all 1200 characters. Thank god for extended warrantee. The car falls apart the minute you turn the switch. Great look and ride, when it's running. Usually you're running to the machanic. NOT your typical Caddy. It should be painted yellow as this lemon leaves a sour taste in your.....life. My last Cadillac for sure. Toyota here I come. Who do I sell this to though? It may not make it to the junk yard. You need only buy one tool to fix this car, a sledge hammer. |

Strength:
The only stengths I see are the Bose radio sounds really good and for only 200hp,the V6 is alright could have been a bigger displacment but due to emissions Cadillac did not include a manual trasnmission as an option. Handling is great for a car this size but is on par with an SVT contour.
Weakness:
Engine compartment too cramped,Engine component failure,Radio went out, differential and tranmissiosn leaks. Transmission is only at 90k and is starting to slip, Engine is a good design just seems like faulty parts come into play. For a car this size it should atleast have a 270hp-350hp engine. High maintenence and constant problems. First couple of months car ran great no problems. Then had an engine component failure (timing belt tensioner) covered under warranty plus had 2 dash lights replaced and AC blower fan fixed but come to find out the dealer did not fix the fan only replaced a fuse. I ended up taking the blower fan out myself to find the motor had actually been rubbing against metal, somehow the assenbly came undone and probably caused the short to blow the fuse. I've driven this for about 1 yr since i bought it then all these problems arised out of nowhere. At the time of purchase the car was under warranty and had 30,000 miles on it not a bad deal but to be honest I bought this car on impulse because I liked the styling and the interior. I will think twice about this next time I buy a used vehicle and check its reliability history. Similar Products Used: 98 Ford SVT Contour same engine specs except fwd instead of rwd like the Catera and with the catera having a nicer interior. 2001 Audi S4 outperforms but interior is about the same. |

Roomy, handeling, sharpness, performs well. Ride of a Cadillac, handles like one of my Vettes.
Weakness:
Resale value. But todays market, arn't they all weak? I feel that the Catera is an all around outstanding vehicle. Luxury, ans sportyness!! Built to last and run for ever. Any problem that I have had has been minimal, and my Cadillac dealer always puts me in another Cadillac, not some cheesy compact. Similar Products Used: Lexus 300. BMW 328 |

Everything will be replaced. I own a 1997 Catera, since mile 6 repairs has been made on this car. I have paid for this car twice over. It is a piece of crap! With 4 pages of repairs to show for it. You can't give me another cadillac. Similar Products Used: Buy Toyota and you will drive worry free! |

Seat heater shorted out and burned me. Canada not known for balmy winters... Need 1000$ front end work...for sale! Constant source of minor repair with moldings falling off and ashtray inoperative, cup holder failed...little things that combined with major front end repair and did I mention NO HEAT... BUMPER TO BUMPER AND EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN DO NOT BUY!! DO NOT BUY!! DO NOT BUY!!Anyone who does not have any problems with this car--- IT'S ONLY BECAUSE THE POOR SLOP AHEAD OF YOU ALREADY PAID FOR IT----. It is the WORST piece of garbage you could ever buy. We thought "It's a Cadillac" should hold it's value. Umm-NO. We brought the car in to get new break pads. The mechanic called. When he went to check the breaks they fell off. Rusted, rotted through. Our $150.00 break job--$800.00. Had to replace everything. We smelled oil burning. Told it was valve covers. No it's not that. It's the head gasket. $5000.00 to fix(thats thousand I didn't mis-type) and that's the estimate. If you buy this car, make sure you reaaly like it because you will actually end up buying this car at least 4 more times in repairs. Cadillac really needs to recall the car and give people their money back. And that includes paying off what they owe. Because if you bought a 1998 catera, it's only worth $6000.00 at best. So they need to wipe the slate clean with this one. We don't drive it often because we can't afford to have the thing blow up on us, and we can't trade it because NO ONE IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WANTS THIS CAR!!! |

Cadillac Catera
Strength:
Quick and responsive handling At your fingertips controls From luxury to sport in a matter of seconds
Weakness:
Goes through fuel like a V-8 No 6-disc Changer No Cup holders in the back seats I've read all the negative reviews of the Catera and I totally disagree with all of them. I am extremely pleased with the purchase that I made. The vehicle is still under factory warranty, so all these little problems that may occur, they get fixed. Hey, Cadillac even gives you a rental Cadillac if you want one. I don't know where all these other people have gotten their car serviced, but Cadillac does stand behind their products. As long as a person knows that routine service is something that should be done to insure that their vehicle will run properly, no problems will occur. The Cadillac Catera is a good car. Sporty, Luxurious, Inexpensive and Fun. The 3.0 Liter V-6 motor, Sport Transmission and Traction Control System make the car feel like a sports car, while the leather interior, chrome wheels and rear spoiler add to the feel of luxury. You're driving a Cadillac here folks. Similar Products Used: Lincoln LS Lexus IS 300 |
