Everything else, Highly undependable! Well, I'v had all of the same problems I've seen in these reviews along with additional ones. Would you believe we had a really hard rain here this sommer, it got into my car underneth the windshield wipers and flooded by back seat. It wasn't just damp, there was 6 inches of water. I had to actually bail it out with a bucket. It kept coming back. The dealer said that was because the car is sealed tight underneth and the water had no place to go but into the car. They couldn't do anything until it stopped draining into my back seat. My insurance took care of the hugh bill to dry it out. I keep getting some dampness in the front passenger side, they don't know what that is. My leveling system went, of course that wasn't covered in the warrenty, cost me $700.00, the brakes went, all kinds of sensors, and now it's in becasue it blew a head gasket, it only has 54,000 miles on it. It's also pulling to the right whenever I hit the slightest little crack or stone on the road. I'm afraid to drive it. It's in the shop more than I drive it. I finally went out and bought a 1993 Honda Accord so I can be assured to get back and forth to work. When & if I get my Catera back I'll just park it until I have it paid down enough to trad or sell it. I still owe way too much money on it. I'v met with the owner of the dealer, talked to Cadillac (they said I could have a free oil change, or $1,000 toward the purchase of my next new Cadillac. I don't think so! I've tried e-mailing some of you through these reviews, nobody has answered. Is anyone pursuring a class action? Similar Products Used: Camry, Buick Reatta (great car) |

Strength:
Nice ride and handles good on good road conditions.
Weakness:
The pits on slippery roads, availability of repair parts, and policies concerning repairs and recalls. As far as I'm concerned this car should be sold only in the color yellow. It's the highest priced lemon I've ever bought. Warranty work takes forever and usually means more than one or two visits. My last recall (of which there has been many) took 17 days for the parts and I wasn't even offered a courtesy vehicle. Great service cadillac! Similar Products Used: I'll go back to foreign makes. |

Strength:
This car allows you to meet some great people: Service managers and writers at various Cadillac dealers which, to a person, have been most understanding and kind...not unlike funeral directors when your are making burial arrangements for a loved one.
Weakness:
Design, engineering...take your pick. Allow me to echo many other comments and repeat the warning: Don't buy a Catera. Cadillac has so many problems with this thing they changed the designation on their new model from Catera Touring Sedan to, simnply, CTS to avoid the stigma this failure has generated. I have an inch-thick file of service records and just turned 52,000 miles. And, incidentally, the engine, this morning, sounded a warning that an addition to the file is near. It eats tires because of Cadillas's inability to determine a proper alignment scheme (they've tried three at last count). The transmission is quirky (at best), the engine prone to a number of failures, one of which has resulted in a recall, and the electronics bring to mind the numerous Lucas electrical jokes of the 60s and 70s. Like most, I thought, "What could be better than a German-engineered and built car with a U.S. corporation to stand behind it?" Answer? - Just about anything. It has the awesome ability to suck you in and spit you out. There are now justifiable strengths to this car.
Weakness:
READ WHAT I AND THOUSANDS HAVE WROTE THIS CAR WAS A MISTAKE!! 100% WEAKNESS DO NOT BUY THIS CAR!! DO NOT BUY THIS CAR!! In fact don't even look at it or test drive it. These are by far the WORST cars out on the market. It looks beautiful and rides smooth, but it is a rose with VERY SHARP THORNS! I bought my 97 Catera just 5 days ago, and I am already trying to give it back. THEY WON'T TAKE IT BACK, they know it's a piece of junk. I got my car on a saturday, it was a rush purchase because it was priced really low and 5 other people were looking at it. I didn't review it and only ran a CARFAX report on it. It came up clean and so I bought it. Four days after owning the vehicle, I went to put gas in it and it would not start after that. I would have just gotten it checked out but after reading everyone's reviews, I know that there will be more problems with it SOON. I have heard horror stories of people who have bought this car and had the sunroof open during a severe rainstorm. Also I have heard that it quits on the highway. As well as many factory recalls. I WISH THAT ANYONE LOOKING AT A CADILLAC CATERA WOULD NOT BE DECIEVED BY ITS LOOKS. i WAS AND i AM WISHING i WOULD HAVE NEVER BOUGHT IT. I HAVE HAD IT 5 DAYS AND I NEED TO GET RID OF IT. I know that it is easier for people to write bad things then good things but believe me THIS IS A TERRIBLE CAR! DO NOT INVEST IN THIS, BECAUSE YOU WILL LOSE MORE MONEY THAN WHAT YOU PUT INTO UT!!! READ ON AND SEE THAT 90% OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE HAVE HAD SEVERE PROBLEMS WITH IT. Please, do not make the mistake that 1000's of unforunate Catera owners have made, Now matter how good a price or how nice It drives, you will REGRET IT!! You WILL NOT BE RIDING IN STYLE YOU WILL BE RIDING IN $HIT! WARNING: THIS STATEMENT IS 100% FOR YOUR BENEFIT!! Strength:
Stylish looks, aggressive handling, comfortable cockpit.
Weakness:
Can be hard on tires, low gas mileage if you do not stay off the gas pedal. This is the first Cadillac that I have owned and have been pleased. I was involved in a major wreck in the spring and must say that the car took quite a hit and held up well. Surprisingly, the insurance company agreed to repair the car and I still drive it daily. It does seem a little hard on tires and I do have a problem with the sunroof opening at times. To its defense, the car is comfortable to drive, allows in little road noise, has comfortable and easy to reach controls. The trunk has adequate space for most anything to be carried and the car handles well with 4 adults on board. Overall, the car has served me well and with the exception of the expected maintenance work, I have no true complaints. Similar Products Used: Honda Accord |

Strength:
Bright headlights, nice radio
Weakness:
seats, tires, performance, everything that can break will brea, The "Craptera" is probably the worst car I have ever owned. Get rid of them before the warranty finishes. Electrical, engine, transmission and tires are all substandard. If you have Goodyear GSA tires on the 17in. rims...that thump in the morning..I won through warranty arbitration!GM provides no Lease Loyality program with this car either..They don't want them back.. fun to drive when it will run
Weakness:
anything mechanical or electrical My Caterra was great until I had it three months too long for the buy back. Since that time it has had a new engine, new wiring harness, new gas tank, numerous sensors and the sunroof comes open in the rain. I don't know how many times it has been in the shop but it is at least 35 or 40 times. It is in the shop as I write. They can't figure out why it won't start ocassionally until the battery is charged. Cadillac offered to pay one payment for my inconvience. I told them I just wanted my car repaired. Now that it is out of warranty I am having to foot the bill for all the repairs that never got done the first 50,000 miles. This car is the worst LEMOM I have ever seen. Is there not a class action suit here for all the unsuspecting buyers of these pieces of junk? If there is, let me know....Cadillac should never have continued selling these Opals as Cadillacs...it is ruining their reputation. Similar Products Used: deville, concours, olds 98 |

Strength:
Good Roadside service - I've had great experience with this service.
Weakness:
lack of power; transmission shifting; dealer lack of effectiveness and ability to resolve issues - maybe that's why this modle only lasted a relative short life before a major revamp. I bought this car with 25,000 miles - I assumed the car was a good bang for the buck - a caddy built in germany! I assumed wrong - this car is severely underpowered (which may account for all the reported engine failures) and poor fuel economy. I have had several attempts by the dealer to resolve transmission shudder and hard 2-3shifts; seats are uncomfortable and handling is marginal. Tires are worn out after 35k miles; glove box squeaks and rattles; poor keyless entry range; and poor rear window visibility. Compared to past experiences with VW Passat, Nissian Maxima and BMW 325, this North American attempt to compete with German technology falls flat on its face.
